Franz Jonas Barclay was born into the Barclay family, under the kingdom of Haensati-Ruska. Born from Ludwig Barclay, brother to Wilheim Barclay. Karl Franz had an eventful childhood, as the times when he were born were changing, and war seemed to be very close upon the horizon. Nevertheless, his childhood under the Barclays have passed rather blissfully. Well...For a Barclay. The family members had regular broken bones, bloody loses and bruised arms, and Franz grew rather accustomed to the idea of seeing blood, even from childhood. He was tutored by the family elder, Rolf Barclay about ideals of Pride, Loyalty and Honour, adopting the ideas for himself, for he saw them right too. He also had a rather fierce theological education, being a staunch Canonist. When Franz’s teenage years came, Franz was given a sword by the family, to practice on his own.
With many Barclays around to help him, Franz got the basic footwork for swordfighting. However, Franz was borne a rather curious boy, who wanted to expand the horizons with knowledge. Being around family members who were constantly wounded, Franz saw the opportunity to observe. The intricacies of the human body, how complex it was delighted the boy, and he developed a quick spurning interest for health, picking up a book about medical science whenever he could, wherever he could. He was a smart child, but because of the situation the Barclays were in, medical science was the way to go. Karl’s first battle was the siege of Helena, where he stayed at the back of the lines, tending to the wounded that arrived in stretchers. That is where he got actual field experience about medical science, and later on, he joined the Landsers as a medical trainee. He was by no means an adept medic, but he had the interest to learn. He stayed by the side of his brother Wilheim, learning as they went.
