In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: You can avoid power gaming in roleplay by keeping your character grounded and realizing the limits of your character. You can also avoid power gaming by not forcing actions onto other players and not having your actions be 100% absolute. Instead of saying "Gort kills you with your knife" you should say "Gort tries to kill you with the knife". You can also roll a d20 to decide. I will avoid power gaming by never forcing actions onto other players instead I will suggest this actions to make for a fair and fun roleplay experience.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay by giving unfair advantages in terms of knowledge. Your character needs a way that they have learned this knowledge be it from a book or from in game interactions. Example: gooferbooger123 wants their character to be able to know lockpicking so their character just intrinsically knows it. What gooferbooger123 didn't know is that he should have gone to one of the in-game library's and found a book about lockpicking. I will avoid metagaming by only using knowledge that my character knows and if I want my player to know something i will talk to in game characters or seek knowledge for it in game.
