Sam grew up originally with his mother and sisters in Almaris in a small burrough, barely big enough for the five of them. Sammy only ever wanted to do right by them. At heart, was a family man. He studied the plants around them as often as he could when his mother wasn't schooling them, often tucking Blissfoil behind his ear just in case one of his sisters scraped a knee.

After a while, Blissfoil wasn't enough to provide for them any more. So, he turned to thieving and underhanded bargains. His old (human) boss found him doing petty crimes  and decided to polish him into something more useful, a small, quiet ally. When he got in though, Sam was still a soft-hearted boy who wanted to take care of people. So, he rose up through the ranks, doing what he had to do, until finally, he got the job he wanted. Sam’s biggest secret is that his nickname is “the knife,” not because he gutted people in the underground crime network, but because he was the cook. Sam was a nice fellow. Perfectly nice, to everyone, actually. Being nice always paid off.

Until it didn't. Sam was nice, so it was a mystery to him as to how he ended up in prison. A guy was just defending himself and accidentally killed a man. It wasn't Sam's fault that people got mad. When Sam came into town, was he escaping prison? Yes. Was that frowned upon and discouraged by said prison? Possibly. Did Sam get free handcuffs? Also yes. 

Even so, Sam is a baker and a gardener before anything else. A baker and gardener who used to work in the mob, yes, but he was retired. Now all he wanted to do was settle down and watch the days pass by from underneath a nice tree. It wasn’t Sam’s fault that he accidentally killed a man. Sam didn’t like to kill people, it was just easy if one was so inclined. And usually, Sam wasn’t inclined at all. Not in his new town with his new garden and his new cottage and his new houseplants that needed to be watered.

Now, in his quiet little life, Sammy’s biggest quest is to make an evening gown out of pride silk. He wants to sway around in a beautiful gown in his beautiful little gardens and be content.
