In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Powergaming is when a player takes an action that forces another player to follow a storyline against their will. Powergaming typically will foresee the action of another player as a result of the action committed by the player that is powergaming. For example, If my character was to punch your character, rather than just leaving the action there, I would follow up by saying "Elara punches (character) and destroys their digestive tract. This would then become a hindrance to your character without really giving you a chance to reply to my initial punch or action. To avoid powergaming, I typically stay to myself and the few friends that I accumulate when I roleplay. I am a very peaceful player and I prefer to curate an organic gameplay rather than exert power over others to get what I want. I like to put in time and energy to create a real story for my character while also staying true to the things that I enjoy most about minecraft like decorating, acquiring pets, and getting wealth. If I was ever faced with a situation where this would be a relevant occurence to me, I would just try to get my point across and make sure that I am not forcing someone else to play by my rules simply to appease the storyline or lore that I have created in my head. I personally feel that this is wrong as it limits the interactions that can occur between players and creates a very flat progression of the lore since it is mainly being controlled by a single player rather than being controlled by all parties involved.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming ruins the flow of roleplay and makes it difficult to have storylines that make sense with the lore that people spend long amounts of time creating. I think that metagaming is wrong and overcomplicates the roleplay in game unnecessarily which is unfair and inconsiderate especially if someone is doing that on purpose to increase their influence in game.

Character Name: Elara Alsol Aja

Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 19
Physical Description: Elara is of African-American decent. She is 5'4 and weighs 120 lbs. She has light green eyes, short black hair, and wears dresses.
Roleplay Scenario:

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Elara sits, then looks up and --- "Hello. My name is Elara Alsol Aja. I came here to make a life for myself. I was raised among elves but I always felt I did not fully relate since I am such a free spirit. Now I seek to understand who I am independent of those who I grew up with. I am in search of complete liberation from my past into my future."

Hello there, your app is almost ready! Just a few changes you need to make.
You’ll be given 48 hours to correct the changes below. Once you have edited and corrected your post, please contact me.

  • Please review our Wiki’s definition of Powergaming and include an example of what powergaming  is and how it disrupts roleplay. Also please include an example of how you, will avoid doing so on the server. You can also learn more about combat roleplay here. We'd like you to elaborate on your answer to ensure you understand what it is.
  • Nymph is not a starting player race. Your character must begin as one of the starter races which include halfling, orc, goblin, wood , elf, human or dwarf. In changing this please update your roleplay example to reflect your characters lack of being a spirit. Perhaps instead you can rephrase it as they are a non-magical, free spirit in behavior instead.
