In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Powergaming is when you control the actions of another character. A person can only dictate what they (their own character) can do. They do not have the right to dictate what others do, and breaks the cooperation of roleplay.

Character: Honour Marigold Rackham, aka Red the Fierce, Back from the Dead Red – Merchant Captain, Human (F)

Background: The only child born to Edgar Rackham, Honour was treated like a son. Because of this, she was taught the adventurous profession of merchant trading along the coasts. It gave her a unique view of the world, and also a rare opportunity to practice a trade most women did not choose. Having been on a boat most of her life, the ways of sailing, navigation and cutthroat haggling are second nature.

As a young woman, Honour witnessed a crew staging a mutiny against her father. Edgar did not survive, but she did thanks to the help of a goblin crewman by the name of Slax. This single act of kindness changed her opinion about Goblinkind, and she is known to be one of the few merchant captains to barter with them fairly.

Honour now has a solid reputation for delivering cargo, legal or otherwise, through hell or high tide. Her ship, Howl of the North, is small but fast, making her difficult to catch by pirate and port authority alike when she isn’t feeling agreeable. Honour will smuggle, but only if the price is right. She has a reputation to uphold, after all.

Edit: I originally picked her to be from Atlas, specifically from Santegia or Rivia, but the server says current location is Arcas? If this is required, her home would be Kingdom of Curonia, as it seems to be a naval-focused province and her background would be appropriate. Also, I found decent information on Orcs, but not much on Goblins, and not much about human/goblin interactions. If this element needs to be changed, easily done, but I could use some advice on how to tailor it properly. Your website is filled with information, and I admit I’m not sure what is accepted canon or works in progress.

Roleplay Scenario: The traveller has just arrived in a small town. As they look around, their gaze is met with run down houses and shops. They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”

((How does your character respond? Please ensure your response is at least six sentences long, and uses at least two actions.))

"Oh, I just, uh…" The traveler stutters, tensing up. They eye the crone, then back outside the shack. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until…

Just wanted to add, if being a “ship owner” doesn’t work within the rules that’s fine. She could easily have lost her ship to a storm and now will start from scratch. This is a background to a character I created for a D&D game that never saw the light of day (the game never took off). It’d be a great opportunity to breathe life into the character here.  ?
