Thuun'al Godrickson was born to a fisherman father and a farm-hand mother in their village hut on the frigid outskirts of Norland. He was the 2nd youngest child in a large peasant family, although nearly half of his siblings would die due to the cold, hunger, sickness, or all of the above. Thuun'al's father struggled with alcoholism, which caused trouble with his work, but fortunately he never laid a finger on any of his children unless there were extreme circumstances. Living in such a large family meant Thuun'al received no special attention from his parents. They were a strict and hardworking family but also proud and loving. Growing up with many siblings also meant there was no shortage of activity for him, and he learned to be strong and assertive when he fought with them.
When Thuun'al was 14, his family reached a tipping point when their father and the two eldest brothers died in a storm when fishing out on the coast. Thuun'al began working around his local village to supply for his mother, who was falling ill. She would eventually die a year after her husband. It was at this time Thuun'al began working as a blacksmith's assistant, carrying tools and materials here and there, learning how to deal with customers, but never to be allowed wield a hammer or step over the forge. He slept in a hole with a straw bed that was once a coal bunker. As years passed, Thuun worked in nearly all walks of life, mining, wood cutting, charcoal burning, he even returned to fishing one time, which helped him reminisce about his family. He even once helped investigate a missing person. At age 24, Thuun's travels lead him to a small bookmaker's shop in a well off village near the Holy Orenian Empire, here he discovered his passion for reading, he made a deal with his boss that he would have his pay cut in half in exchange for reading lessons. It was around this time he began to notice his hearing decline. At age 25, Thuun became fascinated with all sorts of religious scriptures, and spent time trying to read even though many were beyond his skill level. He decided to dedicate his life to his faith and became a follow of the church of the canon.

Almost stumbling off of the boat, he unleashes a chesty cough and catches himself on a nearby lantern pole, he raises his head from his bandaged hand and glances up at the city, taking in the details of all the buildings and their architecture. The shops and street vendors in front of him catch his attention. He gathers his composure and begins moving towards them. As he walks, under the noise of the busy market, he just barely makes out a "Welcome!" he turns his head and makes eye contact with a well-dressed man. He thinks to himself that this is merely some swindler, but he feels there is sincerity in his voice, he stops, crosses his arms and listens to the man, on guard of his belongings. The well-dressed man continues:
"What brings you to this lovely city? Adventure? Wealth? Or some grand aspirations to elevate your place in society?"
Thuu'nal eyes the man for a second, baffled at his manner of speech but gives a blunt response:
"Name's Thuun, I'm a worker but..."
He feels weird being so open to a stranger, but he gives a confident answer:
"I wish to become a priest of the Church of the Canon. I have come here hoping I will be accepted into a brotherhood or monastery."
He winces his eyes, embarassed with the words that came out his mouth.
