Barry fisticarus grew up in The Empire He isn’t sure where and is not sure he could find it again. His parents were simple fishermen and net weavers and they lived happily until Barry got to the age of fifteen. A paticularly harsh winter got the best of his aging parents and almost got the best of him.
Somewhere along this time he was told of canonism and thought that there was only one religion. Until he found out there were others and decided against worshipping any of them and becoming a meditative hermit.
His parents died but he stayed and lived a simple life. An ascetic life, barely any belongings, no friends, no family, nothing.
For thirty years life went like clockwork. He would wake up. Meditate. Check the nets. Meditate. Check the nets. Meditate. Repair his clothes. Meditate. House maintenance. Meditate.
And he was happy.
Until two months ago he was incredibly happy with his life, he had accepted his lot in life.
Then something strange happened...a letter arrived. Which sucked because Barry can’t read or write. But he was curious about what it said. He packed up his things and ventured into the world on a mighty quest!
Barry Fist will learn how to read! He came across a traveller which told him of the Oren Empire and the great city of Helena, maybe he could learn to read there...
And maybe he’ll find god and purpose other than meditating all day long along the way.![]()
Barry steps off the boat and stretches his legs. Although a fishermen he’s never like being on boats for too long. He sees the well dressed gentlemen approaching him. Barry is visibly confused and looks for an exit. He attempts to avoid eye contact and walk past the man but its too late, he’s been spotted.
As the man greets him he changes his demeaner to a warm smile and full eye contact.
He is disarmed by the question...but replies hesitantly, “ah thank you kind sir for the welcome...errrm i guess you could call my quest an adventure. Yes yes yes....indeed. I’m on the mightiest of quests!”
He pulls out the letter from his robe and holds it up to the gentlemen, “I good sir. Need to learn how to read! Where does one start with such a quest, is there anyone around here that can teach me such powers?”
