Nyx grew up with her twin, Ravi and her mother and father in a small house. Their main source of income was her mother's blacksmith business. They lived on the outskirts of Markev. She was very close to Ravi and they did almost everything together. They liked to create musicals together (said musicals didn't really have that much of an audience besides their parents, and where often riddled with plot-holes and bad dialogue. But y'know they were only five at the time so...) and planned to become famous actors together when they got older.
One day, when she and her sister were playing with a ball, they accidentally threw it into her neighbor's house. It broke their window and one of their treasured family relics. Nyx panicked, as their neighbors already disliked her family. What would happen now?
So instead of fessing up, like her sister wanted her so she decided to make it look as if someone else did the crime. She was vaguely aware of her neighbor's ex-wife. They weren't exactly on the best of terms, she had heard rumors of the neighbor cheating on her with multiple women. So naturally, when the crime was discovered she was the only suspect and got in trouble instead of Nyx.
Nyx had felt such a rush her heart pounding heavily in her chest. Despite most people hating that feeling, she loved it, and she wanted to feel it more. So she began to do small things, like stealing toys, pastries (hey that's who stole your sweet role! Oh wait... wrong universe) and books she wanted. Her sister begged her to stop, trying to convince her that such things were wrong, but all her words fell on death ears. Ravi and Nyx stopped talking to each other as much after that.
One day she got caught, turns out it was by another thief trying to steal something as well. The thief was named Irani, she was a dark-elf desperate for cash. At first, Irani considered letting Nyx go, but when she heard the sounds of the shop owner waking up she threatened to turn Nyx in unless she distracted the shop owner.
So Nyx did so, and after that, she was somewhat of a mentor to Nyx. She offered to teach her how to sneak and pickpocket if Nyx aided her in her heists.
A couple of years later, Irani had gone out on a job and never returned. Nyx was desperate to find her. So in the middle of the night, she gathered her things and left, leaving only a note for her sister. She didn't say anything about where she was going but promised her that she was alright. She decided that she start looking in Belvitz, a place that Irani had mentioned spending a lot of time in.
