Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
Ivory stepped inside the tent, scanning the interior for any threat before her eyes landed on the old hag. Her words made the hair on Ivory's neck stand up. A heavy feeling settles in her gut, as if she had met the hag once before. Perhaps that's why this town smelled almost comfortingly familiar.
"Me?", the brunette began, taking a few steps closer to the hag but refusing to take the seat she had been offered. "Why should I tell you anything? I don't know you." Ivory's voice was low, cautious.
The hag chuckled in response. It sounded amused, and Ivory tensed, feeling as if the old hag was mocking her. "Oh dear, it seems neither of you is able to remember. I once took you and your beloved sister in. Although I was met with ungratefulness and suspicion." Her voice darkened for a split second before a sweet-almost too sweet-smile settled on the hag's lips again. "But that is to be expected after such... tragic accident."
Ivory's heart skipped a beat, dread settling in her gut. "What? What is that supposed to mean? How do you know that? And what do you know about my sister? Where is she?", the brunette questioned, clenching her fists while taking another step toward the hag.
"So many questions." The hag shook her head and continued. "And I might only answer one of them. Your sister's whereabouts... I will tell you what I know. But only after you've told me your story."
Ivory contemplated just running out of the tent. The hag seemed to know much more than she was letting on and it unsettled Ivory immensely. But she needed that information. Her dear sister could be anywhere and in danger. She sighed. "Fine."
