Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
A bit timidly Aldith takes a seat as instructed. "Apologies kind lady, this is the first time I have journeyed so far from the forest." Aldith thinks carefully before smiling warmly "My story is complicated but I'd be happy to share. My name is Aldith, I was born to both my parents being dark elves, they were great parents all things considered however I never liked their way of life. Trading goods or dealing with merchants wasn't something I ever liked, especially with how some humans would treat my parents. I'd spend most of my time in the forest near the city, peaceful with only the sound of wind and animals to keep me company. One afternoon I had eaten some wild berries, they weren't poisonous however it did make me feel full and so my mother allowed me to go to bed early without dinner since I wasn't hungry. However when I woke up, I found my parents dead in the dining room. A merchant had sold us poisoned food, I had been lucky and though sad to have lost my parents I was thankful that I had eaten those berries." Adlith pauses and wipes some tears from her eyes. "Fast forward a few years, I am 13 years old. I had managed to get some housing by helping a herbalist with gathering herbs from the forest I would play in. It was hard work but I always made sure to keep an amount of herbs still planted so more could grow. One day I saw a human boy being bullied by a group of eleven kids, they were around my age. I hated what I saw. How could we ever hope to care about each other or stop discrimination if we are both equally bad to each other." Adlith would sigh and lean back a little to try and relax. "I was too weak to help him, but from that day on I disconnected from my people. At 15 years old I finally gained the courage to carve that belief into me." Adlith would move her long white hair to show her ears. Her ears were clearly eleven however heavily scared and missing their tips. "I cut them, shortened them down to a length between human and elf. After they healed I thanked the herbalist for the food and shelter. I then went to live in the forest away from everyone. I was at peace and for years it was nice." Adlith smiles a little from the memories. "I wanted to do more though, so I ventured further, leaving the forest. I heard rumours about Druids and I've decided I want to become one. So hopefully I'll find someone to teach me. Afterall what nature can give it can also take, I think both humans and elves have forgotten just how much we both rely on nature." Adlith then bowed her head "thank you for listening, Kind Lady. I hope it's not a bother but I'll rest here until morning arrives." With that final sentence, Adlith lies down and gently drifts to sleep.
