He was a youngest of seven children in an impoverished home. His parents found it easier if they could avoid feeding him by sending him off to be an apprentice under a blacksmith named Horace. Horace was a fine blacksmith, and although he served in a small village, he was renown across major towns in the Duchy of Ruska. Legorious found his mentor's lessons to be rigorous and painful, but he eventually found the hardest of materials bend to his will with the strike of a hammer. His mentor, however, would teach him much more than the skill of blacksmithy. Being an erudite man, he lectured Legorious on history, Canonical text, architecture, literature, and rhetoric. This offered him an education that most other villagers would never dream of, making him an exceptional citizen of the Duchy. His mentor was generous and jovial and always offered help to those in need. When it was time, Legorious thanked his mentor and announced that he would serve in the state military. Horace, with an understanding demeanor, accepted his ambition, but warned him to always offer mercy to those who beg for it. With a nod, Legorious was off to the nearby training grounds, where he excelled at combat, reinforced by the immense strength he had gained from hammering metal. He favored the hammer and on several occasions found the armor of bandits and thieves to cave in as he struck them with a mighty blow. However, with five years of service and several slain enemies, he decided to set off on his own. He would strike his own name in the realm and went in search of greater opportunities.
