In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is when a player uses information they learned out of character, in roleplay. For example: Knowing a characters name in roleplay before the character introduced themselves.

Amalia is the adopted daughter of an old spinster, who after migration settled on the far outskirts of Hanese, hidden from most of society. Amalia knows very little of her past, the only knowledge she has of her true parentage is that she was born to a Farfolk mother and a Heartlander father, and was given to the spinster because her mother died on the birthing bed, and her father refused to bring home a Farfolk baby. So the spinster raised Amalia like her own, teaching her to tend to their land and home, and taught her the ways of Canonism. Amalia did not grow up with children around her, so she found comfort and friendship in the words of the Creator, and has devoted her life to the religion. However, just before her 18th birthday Amalia’s mother passed on, joining the Creator in the afterlife. Suddenly Amalia was alone, yet also free to leave her home and explore the world she knew such little about. So on the eve of her 18th birthday, Amalia left her home on the back of a merchants cart, reading a book about the descendants journey of migrating to Arcas. Amalia had little idea on where she’d end up, but she was excited to explore the world, and find a life of her own.

Thank you! Reading back I definitely see my odd wording.

Character Name: Amalia Varnes
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 18
Physical Description: Amalia stands at 5'6, has fairly tan skin, and bright blue eyes. She has lots of tiny scars littering her body, and rarely makes constant eye contact.
Roleplay Scenario: The traveller has just arrived in a small town. As they look around, their gaze is met with run down houses and shops. They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”

((How does your character respond? Please ensure your response is at least six sentences long, and uses at least two actions.))

Example: (delete this when you add your own)

"Oh, I just, uh…" The traveler stutters, tensing up. They eye the crone, then back outside the shack. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until…

Overall, a really good read for a first application. You’ve added plenty of references for lore in your biography- kudos there! Otherwise, there’s very little I’d ask you to change.

  • Your powergaming definition, while not wrong entirely, is a little oddly worded. In essence, it is the player being unfair in roleplay, not the character. A simple act of directly making an action, rather than attempting an action, is a standard example of powergaming.
  • I’m a tad worried that your interesting facts will leave the character overly demure.
    • Too trusting,
    • Scared to make eye contact- gets better over time.

They leave little to be desired, and don’t really tick the boxes of negative and neutral traits/facts for me. Instead perhaps consider something else. Is she weak and not a fighter? That, there, could be your negative.

Please, make your changes in your own time! Any questions, feel free to PM me on the forums or on discord, Laurelin#0797

You had little in the way of changes to make, but thank you for going back through and fixing it up.

Keep in mind that human history is extensive; remember your timelines, which worlds and cities existed for your character and so on, and you should be good to get yourself in game! You can easilly pick up bits and bobs of lore as you go, and never be afraid to as anyone for help.

You can find [CT] members easilly with their bright pink tag.

Here’s some reading for you:
