Maximilian was born into a poor family of artisans in one of the small contested villages of Skjoldier. He was raised with his sister Mary, who was the same age. When Maximilian and Mary (npc) were seventeen years old, Mary disappeared. Later, the young man was told that his sister had been taken by witches, and this deeply affected him. The "rumors and fears of others" became a harsh reality in his family. Unable to bear it, he chose not to fight for the rescue and release of his sister, whom he believed might be dead or no longer his sister in the true sense of the word. Maximilian was afraid, cowardly, and unwilling to be a hero. As a result, he prepared for an escape, and after half a year, he managed to board a merchant ship and escape the place of both the villagers and the witches. This journey brought him from those lands to this one, but it also transformed him. When he was found on the ship, they were already docking in the lands we know, so no one sent him back, but they also did not kill him. The ship was small, and there were no more than four people on board, including the captain. The old captain spent several days forcing Maximilian to listen to stories he did not want to hear. These were dark and frightening details about the captain's life, who turned out to be a cruel man who disposed of his own sailors. Ultimately, no one survived the journey, and the captain simply recruited new sailors, repeating the cycle. When they arrived, there were only two people left on the ship. The captain and Maximilian, who had caught the captain's attention due to his "special" qualities. Maximilian despised the idea of witnessing the captain's crimes, but the young man was forced to endure this environment. As a result, he managed to kill the captain (npc) to gain his freedom. When Maximilian disembarked, he had a different personality, but he was still a resilient individual. He became reserved and silent, lacking any sense of joy or sarcasm. Many would describe him as an exceptional bastard for his age. It had been no more than a year since then, and he couldn't have recalled the exact time if he had tried, but he had decided to embark on a journey in search of some purpose, some idea that he had been deprived of, or perhaps had never had in the first place.
Maximilian’s gaze lingered on the old woman longer than he had intended. Her weathered, stern features stirred old memories in him, like a pile of rotting, fallen leaves. They almost caused the crease in his face, known as a smile, to creep uncontrollably downward. "Oh, I apologize for keeping you waiting. I'm from a small village in a remote area, far enough away that you may not be familiar with it. I hope to make a name for myself as a writer and traveler." Maximilian attempted to smile, and indeed, it was a disarmingly polite expression. However, the smile never reached his eyes, which remained attentive but devoid of warmth. He stood there, waiting for her response, his posture perfectly still and poised. Maximilian also didn't reveal his name because he was quite afraid and worried about something he didn't fully understand.
