Atticos was born a Heartlander to his father, Alexios Ziyarid, and his mother, Elizabeth Ziyarid. His father was a well known and liked merchant within the Kingdom of Curonia. His mother was a housewife, who on the side enjoyed weaving fabrics that would later be turned into clothing. Atticos often lived in the shadow of his older brother, Brenard, the preferred son of his father. He was jealous of his brother, and he focused his resentment on striving to be a better person than he was. He dedicated his life to the study of Stewardship and Business, in hopes of living up to his father and taking over the business. At a young age Atticos showed dedication and enthusiasm for the topic, but never received the attention he yearned for from his father. Rather it was funneled towards Brenard, who showed little care for it whatsoever. Atticos soon became self taught, and continued on that path, tirelessly studying stewardship on his own to please and impress a father who didn’t really care for him. When Atticos turned 12, Brenard, who was 16, left the house to run off with a girl. He did not say goodbye to his parents, and was never seen again. Atticos’ father was heartbroken, and lost any motivation to raise another son, the son who he had neglected for all his life; Atticos.

Atticos continued his self-taught studies, proving to be a natural at business. Soon, he had to leave his home, and become his own man, and did so at the age of 18. He resented his father for ignoring him, and decided he did not need to rely on anyone but himself to be successful. He sought out an apprenticeship with an old and well known merchant in Avalain named Veloros. Veloros taught Atticos everything he needed to know about trade and commerce, turning Atticos into a strong and effective merchant. Veloros became a father to Atticos, and he studied with him for 4 years. When Veloros died at sea at the age of 73, Atticos was alone, but he did not mourn. He told himself what Veloros would want was for him to start his own merchant company, and Atticos was dead set on doing that. With his strong stewardship and diplomacy, Atticos set out on his mentor’s ship, in hopes of one day founding a merchant town that would be a center of trade and commerce. But first, he would need to make a name for himself.
