Ever since she was a little girl, Raya lived an extremely sheltered life. Being raised as a commoner in the land of the Heartlanders, she was never allowed to leave the town. Raya's family was "perfect." Just like the rest of the Heartlanders, they were well-educated and socially able. Her family also fit in easily with the Heartlander culture because they hailed from the ancient Renatus. Raya had two siblings, an older sister and an older brother, who was set to own her father's business. Raya had a loving relationship with her brother, but her sister was cold and mean towards her. Her sister outdid Raya in almost everything: beauty, grace, smarts, and pretty much everything else. Because of this, Raya's mother and father highly favored her sister over herself, and Raya was often pushed to the side and ignored. Even though it pained her, Raya was a bit grateful for this because that meant her parents would focus all their energy on her two older siblings, which was good for Raya, because she could go out and explore. Raya had always been fascinated by the stories of magical creatures her grandfather had told her about, and dreamed of traveling the lands. She would often times sneak out of the village and explore the forest outside the kingdom. She would also constantly be reading in the village library. She would also constantly be reading about the rest of the world and what creatures lived outside her prison of a town. Suddenly, when Raya was 17, and her brother was about to take over the business, he was suddenly struck down with an illness and died as a result. Because of his death, her older sister was now sent to take over. Her brother was going to give her a job in the business, but her sister now refused. Now that she is 19 and needs to stop relying on her parents, Raya has taken a job in the castle as a maid. She is currently saving up enough money of fulfilling her dreams of traveling and learning magic.
