Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
Example: Eyeing the crone through locks of messy crimson, the woman called Marrow reaches up and politely removes her sun hat as she enters the tent. In equal parts curious and cautious, she approaches the seat that the hag had motioned to, but remains standing. She speaks in a dry rasp that is at odds with her young appearance: while the cadinene is still feminine, it's as if she has spent many a day screaming at the top of her lungs. "I do so appreciate the offer, stranger, but you must forgive my reluctance. My soul yearns to trust, but my mind warns me against it so. Pray, how do you know of me, stranger?"

In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: As a long time TTRPG player and GM (10+/3+ years respectively), I find the best way for me to avoid powergaming in RP is to set rules for myself. For example, I could make a simple note that scales my character's abilities, (Agility: Poor, Strength: Great, etc.). If I wanted to flip a heavy dining table, for instance, and the character I am playing has poor strength, they would not be able to and would either fail to flip the table or not make the attempt at all.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming provides a simple solution to complex issues, and is most often a new-player issue. Players who metagame often don't realize that, in doing so, they are subtracting from their own character's story and growth, and often interfering with the story that their GM and/or other players are creating.
