Erwin is a heartlander grew up in Archduchy of Suffonia. His father was a civil servant for House Suffolk in Warwick Castle. He borned in lands of Suffonia, at his young times he worked in a blacksmith’s workshop as an apprentice. His advancing times he became a nationalist of Suffonia and afterwards he wanted to join the army. With a little effort and a bit cunningly moves he joined as a soldier. Erwin’s nationalist ideas started growed in his social-life really extremely – everytime he visited tavern or public stores he talks about it with his friends. It’s started to be an obsession on him, actually he knew it but didn't care. One of those days, a squad of Suffonia Crimson Guards planned an ambush to a bandit group because they were dangerous to the civilian life around the archduchy. That was Erwin's first battle experience with the Suffonian army. He was shocked at first but later in the battle he found the courage he was looking for and rallied with his brothers in arms. After the conflict blood on the area blew Erwin's mind, his sight started to blur and made him sick. He looked around for a helping hand but he found nothing but corpses drowning in a pond of blood. That day Erwin figured out killing is not an achievement. The only thing Erwin lost that day was his hope in humanity.
