Clare came from a cruel beginning. Her family was afflicted with a past of drunkards and their abuse. Clare was the daughter of a woman by the name of Leah, and a man by the name of William.
Many grow from the lessons of their past, yet some deteriorate. Clare’s mother was the daughter of Ariella. From these times, Ariella had flings with a man referred to as Alberad.
Now, Alberad was an abusive, cruel man. Doing things many would consider immoral or vile, he had done them without a hint of emotion. Using Ariella and then disposing of her, he left Ariella stranded and alone to raise Leah.
Ariella had told Leah stories of her father’s cruelty, and why she should never wish to meet him. As a little child, she became fearful of any man with grey eyes. This was because her mother had incorporated the feature into one of darkness. However, Ariella had informed Leah that a person with green eyes was a somebody to befriend— a person that was good.
Leah went on to grow up and met a young man by the name of William. She became attracted to him by his green eyes and her mother’s meaning behind them. Upon hearing this, William used the message and twisted it into his own benefit. Naively, Leah had followed him blindly.
The two ended up getting married, and conceiving a child. William was in denial that the baby was not a son as he had wished, but a girl. Furious about it, he had struck Leah. Leaving her in the night alone with the child, he went off to a tavern and wasted away.
On the other hand, Leah wept and named the baby after her remaining hope— Clare, for the beauty found in nature. She told her newborn child all of the stories her own mother had told her own— the wretched grey eyes.
As Clare grew up, William became regularly drunk. He had resorted to abusing Leah. However, Clare was not aware of the severity.
\Becoming accustomed to the yelling and screaming of her parents, Clare drowned herself in the world of stories and the delight of nature. The only two things that had allowed her to escape the reality she had lived with.
As the fights became worse, Clare began to develop an erratic sleeping schedule. She also began to find her way to the nearby stables during the night, waking up to her mother worriedly looking for her and insisting to stay with her.
Leah had no longer wanted to stay with William, and began to pack on a night similar to when Clare was born. She packed food and the little savings she had left hiding away, and persuaded Clare to leave with her. Clare didn’t hesitate much, as she was beginning to see the scale of the abuse.
However, on the way out, William had been returning home from the tavern. As he was drunk out of his mind, he hadn’t the slightest clue what she was doing. Confused, betrayed, and once again furious, he forcefully grabbed Leah and reached for one of the many splayed about bottles.
Clare was horrified, but she wasn’t able to make herself move. Standing there and watching, William had smashed the bottle into Leah’s head, and killed her in a drunken rage. Not knowing what to do, William changed his attention to Clare and blamed her for the tragedy.
Still in a rage, he beat Clare severely while she was unable to comprehend the situation. From there, she received brain trauma and went unconscious. This trauma was met with amnesia, leaving her left with none of her memories.
As she woke up from her unconsciousness, she had found herself in a medical ward. Unknowing of anything, she was lost. Yet there was one thing her mind had kept, and that was the image of two dark grey eyes staring back at her.
From there, Clare has wandered aimlessly around, from Santegia to Hanense. She had wandered around with the alias of Liliana, then found herself in the kingdom of Sutica.
