In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Making decisions that benefit your character at the expense of others and their decisions. (i.e. You "successfully" chop off Johnny's leg but he didn't a chance to act against it.)

In her youth, Theorei came to Presa de Madera with her father, Mortain, as he found work with the stonemasons for the ever-growing city. Growing up there she saw and came to know various other families but ended up harboring many questions about her own. All she knew was her mother had died during childbirth and that she looked just like her as well as, her father would never talk of his family or where they had lived before coming to the Timberwoods. On rare occasions when she asked, Mortain would grow quiet and hold a downcast look across his face. Over time Theorei stopped asking about the past and focused on taking care of her father.

Over the years Theorei learned and shared much with her father, such as how he wasn't the most literate man but loved fairy tales and playing violin. He taught her to share these interests and these became fond memories for her along with the summer days they would spend by the river. Yes, she felt a small hole in her heart for all the things she'd never know about her mother or her fathers past, but the roots of these thoughts didn't bother her as they dug deep and she learned to embrace what she didn't know about herself. Every year on her birthday, Theorei would toss a few flowers into the river for her mother hoping it would be enough of a gift for the woman she never knew as a way to say she was sorry for her passing and that she loved her. On the day the city held a great festival after the completion of the great walls, Theorei made sure to toss flowers from the festival and a handful of confetti into the river thinking maybe her mother could celebrate too.
After her 20th birthday, her father grew gravely ill during the winter season and sadly passed away leaving her with no family left and a loneliness that seeped into her heart. Over 2 years she slowly felt a sadness and detachment she'd never known as his passing had hit her hard and she began to close herself off from others. After 2 years of living on her own she had decided to sell some of the older and untouched things around the house. While cleaning out the bookshelves she found a small journal filled with her fathers handwriting. Theorei read through water warped pages about her mother and all the things Mortain wish he could have told his little 'Theo' but never knew what time would be the best. He had written of how proud he was of Theorei and day-to-day updates of their outings and how much more of the new world he wanted her to see. His words inspired and moved Theorei to the decision of leaving the town and going on her own adventure just as he had wanted.
