In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: To avoid powergaming in roleplay, it is rather essential to understand the world's and character's limits. You should research the powers and weaknesses your character's race has, along with knowing your limits. You have to be willing to let your characters take hits in order to do better. Straying away from controlling other people's characters is also very important!
For example, in a combat situation you should NOT be constantly winning. Your character should at the very least have a few "whew-that-was-close" -moments, preferably actual hits. Every action is a walking question mark, as everything needs to be approved by the other person as well.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is the act of bringing OOC knowledge into roleplay by mistake or on purpose. In both cases, it obviously ruins the flow of roleplay! The characters in roleplay are in their own world with no knowledge of the players, and thus it would make no sense for them to know something that wasn't realistically available within their own reach. Metagaming might ruin people's future lore plans, events, or even their mood. Thus, it's essential NOT to do it.

Character Name: Kushizu Fuji
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 27
Physical Description: A tan & dark-haired female lingering at 162cm. Her overly stylized kimonos often manage to hide her thin body - no need for combat in her mind.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

---

The lady dressed in extravagant fabrics introduced herself, her head dipping into a brief bow. "Kushizu Fuji, a pleasure."

Her gaze traveled across the sparsely lit room, noting its contents into the back of her mind. Soon enough, with a subtle nod to acknowledge the old woman, she seated herself onto the cushion. "... Of course."  Despite her verbal compliance, it clearly took a little more than just a nod to actually open up; suspicion was written across her face. After just a moment of silence to gather her thoughts, she continued; "I am a fashion designer, with good taste, obviously."

Up her hand rose, and toyed with the ribbon on her neck... not that it was the main focus of her outfit, no! Kushizu sure knew how to express her love for fashion with something as simple as silk fabrics, it didn't take a mighty wizard to see that. "I was raised by my mother on the silent side of town... everything worked out just fine, really."  -  "She had connections, I grew to use her connections, made a living, aaanndd..."  A sigh left her lips, her eyes narrowing onto the shady 'oldie' at the back. "Who are you?"  Not someone she knew, that's for sure. Kushizu might've been able to ignore the old hag's lingering gaze on her in the beginning, but it was bound to grow offensive to her. Though this behavior was considered arrogant and egotistical, she had never been stupid nor someone who likes to waste her time.

After just a moment of awkward silence at her abrupt stop, the fashion designer propped herself back onto her two feet. "I'll leave, I have no business here. Should you need a proper 'interview,' reach out to my boutique."  Her faint, almost mocking signature smile tugged the corners of her lips upwards. "They'll arrange some time for you! For a hefty fee... ahem. Make sure you collect enough to pay for it."  Satisfied with the knocks at the innocent (but overly-curious) granny's ego, Kushizu turned on her heel and marched out of the tent.
