Ivarr Oddrson was born in Kal’Varoth, the great underground city of the Dwedmar, to Oddr and Sif. He came from a large family, being the youngest of seven boys.
Oddr taught his son the art of blacksmithing, beginning simply by teaching him to carve wax, then eventually teaching him to forge metal through the lost-wax technique. Ivarr easily picked up the skills his father taught him, but he grew increasingly curious about the outside world. With each passing year, Ivarr absorbed more Dwedmar smithing knowledge from his father and extended family, becoming a journeyman blacksmith before he knew it.
Ivarr opened his own smithy in Kal’Varoth, and operated there from the age of 35 to the age of 50. At the age of 50, Ivarr took what gold he had saved and headed for the city. He had hammered enough swords and shields; he wanted to use them. He dreamed of being a soldier, an archer, a berserker. He had some deep yearning for battle that manifested itself as an unending curiosity about the world.
