Hikaru is unlike other Highlanders in the Duchy of Ruska (as well as in general) with his yearning to leave home. He comes from a family of fishermen, and is supposed to become one as well. He finds himself to be more of a wanderer rather than the stereotypical Highlander who stays near home. He wishes that the curse of early death hadn't affected him, as he enjoys life, and would like to live as long, or longer than some races, allowing him to enjoy life as he pleased. With the hopes of a long life, Hikaru wishes to go easily through life, but is always weary of doing anything that could harm, or kill him.

They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”
