Monty considers the well-dressed gentleman in front of him, debating how to answer his question. Finally, he states, "I came to find a purpose, I suppose." He contemplates explaining more, then decides, "A purpose so that I won't live my life without one. I've worked for my household for 18 years of my life, and that was my purpose. Now, there is no one to work for." Monty stops himself here and chooses to end his part in the exchange, asking the man in return what his role was in the city. "Are you a native? If not, why did you come to the city?" Their exchange ends politely, both learning a bit more about the perspective of others. Monty continues onward into the bustling city.

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is using knowledge that your character should not know to the advantage of your character. For example, the player may have out of character knowledge, but this knowledge cannot help the character if the character has not learned that knowledge for their self.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is when the character performs unrealistic feats or actions not appropriate of their skills and also forces those actions on others, not giving them a chance to respond. For example, a character would be in combat and emote that they killed someone without the other character being given a chance to retaliate.
