    In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Just speaking to them about it and that they should start acting properly, hopefully should work. If not i would consider kicking the player.
    In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is a form of cheating, it is using out of character, out of game knowledge in the game itself. A good DM will stop it at any occurrence.

Roleplay Scenario:

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

(Durkgham sits down and says): We were hunting wild animals near a forest but at one point orcs attacked us and killed my companions, I was the only one who survived, I ran as hard as I could and got lost in the mists of this wasteland and when I wandered so I found this town.

Maybe talk about your parents? Ect. It's a great start! Make sure you are emoting in third person “ He said/she said/ they moved.”  The roleplay scenario must be both action as well as dialogue.
