    In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Meta gaming can be defined as a lot of different things, as a DM in my dnd campaign i define it as understand or knowing something your character doesn't or having an intuition of something to come and preparing for it without the knowledge of it "in realm".
    In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Powergaming is putting all your time into grinding a very specific thing and nothing else. you find this a lot on MMOs.

Cor-corin was a happy lad and lived with his parents and brother (Brick). He could never win the approval of his parents, who were miners, cause he didnt see the thrill in the family line of work. He prefered to work out doors, healing the sick and tending to the world. After coming out to his parents as gay he was thrown out and left to his own accord. He felt helpless and lost till he realized that this is his fresh start.

Roleplay Scenario:

"I've honestly never thought that far ahead. i have never even seen a city so vast and so many people." *the half man steps back in awh and fear*
"I can show you the ropes if you would like?" *the gentlemen jesters to the colorful tents and haggling people*
"Oh wow, would you really? i didnt expect to make a friend so quickly! I truely wish to see the ropes that you speak about" 
*the small halfling follows the lengthy Gentlemen into a dark ally*...
