Lafayette was a servant to his master Rochlorn. His pale skin is directly caused by the fact that he has never set foot outside. He has seen light from under a door leading to the upper floors of his masters abode but that is the extent of his interaction with the real world.
Having learned how to read, Lafayette has made himself a imaginative world in his mind, he longed to explore what was beyond the door. One day he was awoken from a day/night dream by the sound of a large thud and the clanging of dishes falling to the ground. He inspected the ruckus and discovered his master, face down on the cold stone floor. After trying unsuccessfully to get him back to his feet, Lafayette realized that the door he had always seen shut was wide open. With his master unconscious or even dead, Lafayette took the opportunity to bolt into a world of unknowns.
