    In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Basically i think its breaking character, as in one's character behaving in a way that would infer knowledge of the outside world, or knowledge they otherwise would not be privy to. If a player knows from an outside source that a mansion is booby trapped, having his character act in a way to specifically disarm said booby trap would probably fall into the category of metagaming.
    In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Powergaming is another way of breaking character, as in a character going beyond the limits of one's character, race. An example would be a cowardly frail old halfling defeating an orc in single combat or intimidating them with a uncharacteristic display of power.

Selim Ebrahim and his sister Sadia are twin Farfolk who just moved from Kadarsi to The Kingdom of Norland in order to escape debt. His parents sent away Selim and Sadia to this faraway land so that they could escape their parents debt. Selim and Sadia secretly plan to become wealthy and return to their home country in order to save their parents from their forced cycle of debt, but their parents would never condone them re-entering Kadarsi. Selim was briefly apprenticed to a small time but successful merchant, and he picked up some business skills in the process. He is an avid mountaineer, and has good stamina even at low altitudes. That said he is strong only in his legs and back and has never won an arm wrestling contest with his sister, who uses her arms to carry goods from the market every day. Selim hopes that he can gain the favor of a businessman in order to acquire wealth and maybe start a business of his own. He was also forced to leave a childhood sweetheart in Kadarsi, which is another reason, besides his disinterest in romance, that he generally chooses to ignore the advances of others.

Physical Description: Selim's has a slight upper body build, but strong lower back and legs. Dark olive skin, dark eyes. 180 pounds. Shabby but well tended clothes.
Roleplay Scenario:

"Good evening sir," Selim started, eyeing the gentleman's respectable wardrobe. "My sister and I are looking for work. We were merchants with stalls of our own back in Kadarsi, but as you can see by our meager equipment our wares did not make the long journey." He brushes back his cloak to reveal a mostly empty belt. "I'm sure you have many friends in those stalls, and maybe you would be willing to make an introduction? We would not forget the favor."
