Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
I do not hesitate at her words.
The air inside the tent is thick with damp and smoke, yet my gaze lifts not to the smell, nor the squalor but to some candles suspended in quiet defiance of nature. I step forward with measured grace, lowering myself onto the cushion without breaking eye contact. “You were expecting me,” I repeat calmly. “My name is Zamoreth, of the Mali’aheral”. I rest my hands upon my knees, posture straight, voice even. “I was not drawn to this place by chance. Swamps do not interest me. Rot does not intrigue me. But 'anomalies' do.” My violet eyes flick briefly toward the floating flames. “I was raised among marble spires and disciplined minds. From childhood I was taught that knowledge is sacred ", I open my hand, like i had a book on it "to be catalogued, preserved, protected.” I pause, and clinch my fist “I disagree, knowledge is not sacred. It is a tool". I tilt my head slightly, studying her as though she were a text to be deciphered. “I have walked beyond the comfort of elven halls because the world shifts. Empires rise with confidence. Kingdoms fall through ignorance. And those who understand neither are crushed between them.” I look her deep in her eyes “I do not intend to be crushed.” My tone remains composed, but there is steel beneath it. “I seek truths that are not written in sanctioned tomes. Forces that bend nature. Whispers that move rulers. Powers that linger in forgotten places such as this.” A faint, controlled smile touches my lips. “If candles float above your head in a tent stitched from ruin, then you possess something others do not. And I intend to understand it.” I lean forward slightly, eyes narrowing with focused curiosity. “So you say you have been expecting me. I want to know more, give me your knowledge!"
