Thorin does not remember his backstory with any more ability than you or I, although he has a deep connection to Yemekar and it is through this connection that he remembers glimpses of his past, the face of his siblings, the smell of the first ore vain that he cracked into. It is during his work that he goes into a trance like state and can feel the influence of Yemekar. In this state he can remember traveling the vast caverns under the mountains that both men and elves hardly see. As a cave dwarf he learned the importance of technological advancement with an emphasis on the exploitation and manipulation of stone and metals to make machines. There was an accident with one of these machines at the age of 20 which has left Thorin horribly scared and without the ability to remember life growing up. The injury is a curse that has forced him to search out his past in order to continue in the future. He remembers the great underground halls of Kal’Varoth and the streets busy with merchants and stone cutters working to strengthen the one great city. For the last 10 years he has wandered through the cities of dwarf and man, along with a couple of excursions to the wild lands, picking up work wherever a stone cutter is needed. He is always searching for a clan, as dwarves are tough and cranky but build bonds stronger than stone or steel with their kin. That brings us to today, a new start for an ambitious dwarf in a world that is so familiar but yet, so strange.
