  1. Might be a little off topic but I'd personally love to see instant name changes be allowed for all VIP tiers, if not the whole server. It would be immensely helpful for being able to do player run events, not to mention for characters themselves when they go "undercover" for an hour or two, or switch forms, such as in Naztherak lore or druidic shapeshifting. 100 USD just for a name change ability (and instant slot switching) seems absurd; It would be nice to either add more rewards or replace the current ones with better upgrades.

Aside, more chat colors is an amazing idea. I'm super hyped for what tech team has in store.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Druidism - Communion and Control

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Druidism, an all-encompassing term for the gifts given to player characters via a connection to the Aspects, allows the character to interact with the natural world via deific magic. The base of this magic is that of Communion and Control, of which every feat and additional magic requires knowledge and practice in. Every druidic aspirant - or dedicant - must go through a series of trials before a druid - their guide - may deem them fit to be granted such gifts. During this period, also known as a dedicancy, the dedicant must learn, grow, and prove to their guide that they are worthy of Druidism. Upon completion of this process, and should the dedicant indeed be deemed a suitable candidate, the student’s guide will give them one last test: that of the attunement vision. It is this that connects a dedicant to the gifts, attuning them to the natural energies that imbue the world with life.

Communion and Control, the base of Druidism, is the magic gifted upon attunement. Such is perceived as a ‘low hum’ at the back of the druid’s mind, able to be described as the ‘voices’ of nature. In reality, however, the perceivement of this is not just a song, but an ebb and flow of natural energies, leaving the druid privy to an “extra-sensory experience” in which comprehension and communication is had via feelings, emotions, and imagery.

Those newly attuned stumble through their magic, akin to a newborn fawn learning to use its legs. It is here that a baby druid must recognize that most abilities within Druidism, if not all, are manifested through a conversation, an encouragement, or a request for nature’s cooperation, for even an elder druid will not always be successful in guiding an elder tree; just like a storm cannot be contained, neither can nature be outright tamed. It is due to this that, at its heart, Druidism is not a combative magic, but rather one that seeks to care for and maintain the balance of nature.

As the young druid grows, their connection to nature becomes stronger and, eventually, at Tier 3, they may begin the journey of delving deeper into their gifts. Druidic feats and further magics begin to become available, seen in Blight Healing and Herblore. At Tier 4, a Druid has enough of an understanding to learn attunement and take on their own students after receiving an approved TA in Communion and Control. Druii who have mastered their connection to their gifts at Tier 5 may delve even deeper, granted access to the chance to learn magics such as Transcendence or Shapeshifting, should the opportunities present themselves in roleplay.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Communion and Control bear three different subsections of magic: Communion, Control, and Infusion.

Communion is the perceiving and understanding of how to communicate with the natural energies of flora, fauna, and fae. In doing so, the druid is able to connect with the natural world to project their magic, or their own ‘voice’, in order to guide, communicate with, and influence the energies around. This includes but is not limited to talking directly with individual plants and animals, influencing nature with their own emotions, and being able to ‘see’ via sensing the energies around them.

Control is the request of nature to comply with the druid’s wants and needs to protect the balance. Despite its name, one is not actually able to control the energies around them, but rather encourage, convince, and guide nature in desired and specific ways through a give-and-take process. This process is not, however, always guaranteed to work, for nature is always able to refuse the druid’s attempts. Use of Control includes but is not limited to the expedited growth of plants, the shifting of tree limbs to pick up boulders, and the creation of humanoid tree beasts called Entlings.

Infusion is the use of the druid’s own natural energies rather than the communication with the natural energies around. In contrast to the wide range of uses that Communion and Control bear, Infusion is able to take care of far more specific and creative needs or goals. By controlling and channeling the energies from their manapool, a druid may gift different qualities, powers, or simply a transfer of said energies unto an item, an area, or towards another druid at the expense of their own reserves, which with time and rest eventually return. Through this, a group of druii are able to accomplish what a single druid otherwise could not. It is also here that deep exhaustion - known as an inner pain, a lack of breath, heavy limbs, and/or etc - is seen to be the most frequent. These abilities include but are not limited to sharing energies with other druii, imbuing a student with natural energies through attunement to bind their soul to the Aspects, and creating and using limbs formed of wood to replace one of flesh that has been lost.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

    Control: Growth, Tier 5:

Phaedra carries the small avocado sapling forth towards the edge of the new garden space, not yet filled with any plant life. The soil, however, had been well taken care of, fertilized the day prior. It is here, in the corner of the plot, that the druid shifts to a kneel, sets the sapling down nearby, and begins to dig a hole in the ground. A few small hums escape the elfess, a tune emitting that had long ago lost its words, but it’s a cheery thing for a cheery day and a cheery task. Once the hole is made, the sapling is gently placed within, and then its roots are covered with the new soil.

[!] The druid sits back, rolling off her heels and down onto her bottom, as if about to chatter with an old, dear friend. Her ear gently flicks and the golden freckles on her face subtly flair as Phaedra focuses on the sounds around her; firstly she listens to the birds nearby, then the way the grasses outside the garden plot rustle, and then to the buzz of energies that every natural thing in the area produces. It is here that she searches and, practiced as she is, the elfess is easily able to locate the sapling’s tune beside her. Sensing its young and hopeful energies, Phaedra smiles and lets out a small, mirthful puff of air. [1/4 Growth, Druidism]

Phaedra reaches out towards the sapling’s energies, her own magic drifting forth to meet it and make a connection, offering out the opportunity of being guided upwards towards the sun, upwards to feel the gentle breezes with a better ease, upwards to grow new branches and leaves and receive more life and a sturdier beginning. It is these thoughts, these offers, that she gives the plant, and she listens, waiting for it to either accept or deny her aid. There is no rush from the druid, however, and her magic never stops being warm and welcoming, eager to hear and obey; a servant of the sapling, rather than the other way around. [2/4 Growth, Druidism]

[!] As the druid attempts to guide the wee thing, the sapling, slowly, starts to shudder. The movements aren’t strong, not at first, but then it starts to reach its tiny branches upwards and, unseen, sprouts its roots down and out. It’s a slow thing at the moment, accompanied solely by the rustling sounds of young, green wood, but the druid watching, silently guiding, gives the youthful flora a grin that matches its own excitement as she continues to encourage its growth through her magic. [3/4 Growth, Druidism]

[!] The tiny sapling now surges upwards, growing in height one, two, three feet with the crackling development of new bark and the fluttering of bushels of leaves upon freshly developed limbs. The sapling’s trunk thickens - not by much, but rather enough to grow steady - and the roots beneath the soil expand outwards and fully take hold within the dirt beneath, cementing itself down into place. The druid gently draws back her magic, easing in her guidance to allow the plant’s growth to return to its normal and natural rate, though she’d done what she’d wanted to accomplish: help the avocado sapling settle down into place. No upcoming rains would outright flood the young tree and carry it away, nor would any small animals munch on it before it gets a chance to thrive. Phaedra gently, proudly, pats at the sapling’s trunk, then returns to a stand to go retrieve some flower seeds for the garden! [4/4 Growth, Druidism

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

Communion: Beastspeak, Teaching a Tier 3 Druid:

The druid drags her actively communing student towards the pond nearby, gesturing for the dedicant to sit at the edge of the water. The fauna closest scatter, either away or back into the pond; a rabbit skitters to take refugee in a nearby bush, the crickets hop out of the way and onto other blades of grass, the smaller fish at the edges of the water dart a little deeper. And yet, none of these animals are what the druid focuses on. Instead, the teacher point towards a fat toad that rests nearby, one that hadn’t been bothered enough to move. “Tha’ one. I want you t’focus on tha’ one.”

When the student asks for direction, the druidic teacher lets out a small puff of mirth. “Find its voice, of course! Why d’ you think I taught you how t’ tune int’ th’ voice of tha’ aspen a few weeks ago? You’ve been practisin’, ti? Well, it’s th’ same sorta thing. Calm your mind, let yourself listen t’ all around you. Peel apart th’ chorus und filter through it t’ find its individual voice. Animals arenae quite like plants; they’ve got more vibrations in their energies, it’s a bit harder t’ hold onto, but if you’ve been practisin’,” she puts emphasis on this. “-you’ll find tha’ th’ distinction is a li’l easier t’ hear.”

The student gulps, then offers a wry grin, though offers no answer and instead seeks to try and find the toad’s tune. The teacher goes quiet as she watches, studying the student’s facial expressions as the younger focuses, taking note of the frustrated dip in the student’s brow. “Take your time. Donnae run through this, jus’ walk. E’ery animal, jus’ like e’ery plant, has its own, unique voice. Use wha’ you learned with tunin’ t’ identify this one’s.”

The student chews on their cheek, though the twitch of their countenance falters as they follow their teacher’s words. Slowing down, they take their time to separate voice from choir and, when they eventually find it, a flash of proud surprise crosses their features. “Ah, ti, there it is,” the teacher emits, pleased with her student’s progress. “It’s a bit different from th’ plants, ne? Bit more lively in spirit than most,” she jests. “Now- y’cannae manipulate th’ voice of an animal, jus’ like y’cannae do th’ same for plants. It’s a give und take, an offer, a guidance. We donnae command nature, ti? We r’quest its cooperation. Tha’s wha’ I want you t’ do with this one. Donnae try t’ force it t’ talk if it donnae wanna, you’ll jus’ make it mad or irritated.” She gestures to the toad, then, giving her student the go-ahead. “Make a connection with your magic t’ this one’s voice und greet it. It’ll be easier t’ use emotions or images at first. You’ll know if it wants t’ talk or ne.”

The student takes a moment to filter through their teacher’s words, but then they offer a small nod, slightly stiff due to their divided concentration. They send out their best attempt at a wave of greeting, casting forth their best chipper emotion towards the toad.

    [!] Student rolls a 3/20

The toad lets out a rolling croak, throat bulging out with lazy annoyance, one that both teacher and student hear through the song. The druid barks out a laugh as the amphibian turns its back on the duo and grouchily hops off - displeased with being disturbed - and then the elfess pats her student on the shoulder with a proud grin. “Ne too bad a first try. Y’found its voice und it had a r’action t’ you, y’jus’ need t’ work on your magic’s communication skills. A lotta animals wonnae wanna talk t’ younger druii, but as you grow, nature will turn warmer t’ you. Jus’ keep keep up your practice in talkin’ with th’ bushes und trees for now. We’ll go through this lesson again t’morrow with a more… willin’ participant.” She offers a cheeky grin. “I’d have been very surprised if Fat Tony th’ Toad had wanted t’ talk. Half th’ time he donnae e’en talk t’ me! Grumpy old thing.”

The student gapes, accusing their teacher of setting them up to fail. “Ne, ne. Y’need an ayla challenge t’ learn. Influence? Ti. Communicate? Ti. Control? Ne. This’ th’ perfect r’minder tha’ y’cannae control nature.” She reaches out to ruffle the student’s hair. “Get some rest. We’ll try again in th’ ‘morrow.”

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

Druidism is, admittedly, a complicated magic to understand. On the very likely instance of my student accidentally powergaming, I will first seek to try and re-explain the lore as well as identify where, exactly, the student had gone wrong.  If the same mistake is made in the future and it becomes clear the student is powergaming intentionally, I would then bring the situation forth to ST to make judgment and/or corrections on the behavior.

  4. "Zeke-?"

Phaedra had not given him a hug when he'd asked for it. Not a real one. It was a half-assed embrace, one that read of her annoyance at the situation, her aggravation of his stubbornness. As much as she'd hoped her cold demeanor would deter him from wheeling off into battle, it didn't. As much as she'd hoped her shitty attitude towards him that day would get him to reconsider, it didn't. She'd come to regret that in the hours, weeks, months and years following.

Her regret wouldn't bring him back.

She hadn't gone into the portal after they had made a mess of the distraction. She was the only one. Perhaps if she'd been stronger, kept a better eye on him, forced him to return to the city with her, he'd have lived. The what-if's linger as long as the regret does.

    "Why isnae anyone doin' anythin'-?!"

She hadn't even gotten to say goodbye. She hadn't gotten to apologize. One moment, he was laying on the bench with shuddered breaths, the next, completely gone by the hands of those near. It would take a few hours for the shock to wear off, to fully understand what had just happened.

Then the boy's last words come to her in the form of a letter and the guilt increases ten-fold. She'd never called him her brother, not out loud, but there was some part of her that had always felt protective of him, that had found his strange quirks endearing. Any annoyances were tolerable and, really, isn't that what younger siblings do? Annoy the hell out of you, then wiggle their way back into your heart the moment after.

The thought tears her up from the inside out.

She tries with utter desperation to write down her memories of him, to immortalize his image to stave off the inevitable, but all that strikes the pages of her journal are tears. She never gets more than a few trembling letters written before the rivulets soak the page, time and time again, until finally, it hurts too much to keep trying. Her weakness, however, rips her apart perhaps most of all, for she had nothing else to remember him by; just her memories and the emotions connected. And a promise. A single promise.

She wouldn't die until his death gets avenged.

In the years following, for however long the druid has, Phaedra would cling to her fading memories of him. Time works against her condition, seeking to erase him from her thoughts, just like it always had her parents, her other family members, her friends, her achievements, her failures, over and over and over again. It would take decades, but, eventually, it would be as if the boy had never existed in her life. And yet...

    And yet...

For the rest of her time in the mortal realm, there would not be a single game of dice gone by that a small pang of loss would not find her, as if something was sorely missing. She would not know why such a wave of emotion would wash over, but it would come without fail. Perhaps it would be brushed off, but it would return in full force the very next game. When she wins, the urge to turn and tease the ghost of a memory would steal her breath away. And with loss? Well...

That loss would always come with a small sense of an older sibling's pride.

Never has this changed. And never has it been in your own words 'Druidic Event CAs'.

I think that's kind of the point @Wizryis getting at: for a lot of treelords, this doubling down makes it feel like there will be no where left for the treelord to go - no growth, no change, nothing. If this part of the rewrite passes, they will turn into event-esque CAs, much like necromancers have become. Their story caps where their mind just constantly chants "naturebalancenaturebalance-". You might say that's an exaggeration but obsessions are, indeed, all encompassing.

The very thought concept you are stating I honestly question if you are apart of the druidism community or not.

I don't see how this matters if someone has read the lore and is making a genuine attempt to understand it. As a druid player, please, don't gatekeep. Lore is meant to be enjoyed by all. On top of that, Wizry rps with druid players every day, including treelords, as do I.

We can have differing views on the rewrite. I've said all I need to say about my opinions, offered @MayRndz my ideas, helped a few people figure out a way to say their ideas on the matter in a cohesive way. You're free to disagree. o7

As one that literally has been a part of the Druidism community for years and done so many rewrites/aided in them. While I didn't take part in the making of this one, I will make some things clear since there seems to be a big misunderstanding going on.

Treelords are a version of an endgame CA of Druidism. Is it the only option? No, the feats and other paths to take make it pretty diverse on what you want to do.

Treelords have always had mentality issues. Even the current lore gives reference to this. They are literal embodies of nature itself. To expect such a dynamic change to a character to turn out completely normal is hilarious at best. And that's not even counting the force mentality changes of all the feats and submagics of Druidism. (Seriously, go read Transcendence. Even treelords can't avoid its effects or pair it with their own). But the main point is that the further you step into Druidism, the more it WILL mess with your perception of reality and mindset of what is important than the rest. There's no ifs, ands, buts about it.

As far as the concept changing on what a Treelord is and their creation and what not. That rather falls with how the community feels about it in the end. Aka the treelords. An attempt was made to change it up. Hence why its called a rewrite. Whether it passes or not will fall to the reviewing process.

I don’t think anyone’s really misunderstanding the lore rewrite as a whole - we’re just offering constructive criticism. A lot of people are fine with the mentality changes, others know how it’ll entirely flip what their treelords have been working towards for irl years in the mental department. If this goes through, it’ll be a big change for how people rp their CAs. @Wizryand @bloomtiarahave valid points, as do many others who have commented. No, it’s not right for treelords to not have mental changes, but from the people I rp with that have the CAs, I can most definitely say they ARE playing their lords with mental problems affect by their change. A new forced mentality (and the way it’s written here, it is implied if not outright saying it’s enforced) isn’t needed and will heavily affect current lord rp.

    That makes no sense.

    Quote

"The purpose of a Soul Tree is to be eternal soldiers for nature and the aspects. OOCly this makes it so that things such as age or disease don’t get in the way of the character doing their duty, and softlocks them into the role of a Nature’s Protector. All in all, it is the Apex of what a druid could be, one who has dedicated in-character and real life time to the cause, and the reward? More work.

No other magic has a focus on nature like Druidism does, and Soul Tree is the only way with the Druidic magics for other races like humans and halflings to have a longstanding service with the druids. In Canon Soul Trees have existed for a long time, and will with this, continue to exist. This acts as an extension on what Druidism already does."

    Quote

-The soul is no longer encapsulated within the tree itself.
-The tree is an anchor - or a point of return for treelords instead of an extension of the druid.

    Nature's Aura [NC]

Given their Natural and Fae-akin condition, treelords themselves radiate a passive calming energy.

    Moonshadow Mirage [N/C]

Given the lack of aging they are considered to be the wisest among druidic groves, the elders of the order, they are often seen as adept storytellers and documenters of history.

    Faerie Flambeau [N/C][ Infusion]

Whilst blight healers grasp an understanding of Taynei’hiylu’s and emerald flames, capable of healing and expelling power from her blessing, treelords are similarly able to grasp a control of those mists and bring forth a small set of star-like lights offering a slow fading light akin to fireflies dancing in the night, able to light up small and dark spaces to act as a guiding lantern.

Half the new spells are directly related to fae-type magic, or are near replicas of transcendent magic. The lack of soul in the literal soul tree is basically just what an epiphyte is, sans the influence of an actual fae. The original lore's intent is to give druii a stronger body so that they don't have to worry about death via illness or old age, not to make them more fae like. That's what transcendence is for.

That's just my opinion. I actually quite like the other spells. Like I said; I'm neutral on this rewrite, I like some of it but the other half doesn't make sense to me.

  8. 26 minutes ago, MayRndz said:

if you read the current CA it is relatively the same concept, just one is an immortal druid capstone and one is a fae thing.

Maybe I'm just so used to the tree housing the soul and the concern over saplings taking on a few large arcs during my own character's story, but the switch feels very epiphyte-y. A lot of the spells feel fae-themed, more like an addition to epiphytes or transcendence druii rather than an update to treelords, which I've always interpreted with vibes more aligned with regular nature themes. I know this is meant to be a rewrite of course, and it reads well, I just don't think it should be so heavily fae leaning. It no longer feels like a Druid CA but rather a Fae CA, if that makes sense. Which I suppose is what you were going for, but I never got the impression that such was what the OG lore intended to be.

  9. Gave it a once over and I'm a little distracted, so apologies if I've misconstrued any information, but this rewrite feels more a little like an epiphyte copy, paste, and improvement rather than a unique CA. I like some of the changes made but I'm not so sure about the other half.

Regardless of my neutral mentality on this post, it reads well and the ideas are interesting enough.

While it's grand that ET are able to veto players from joining, ppl who just want to run player events w/o the staff tag have 0 control over who is allowed & what can be done during it: if a bunch of people roll up to an event fighting XYZ creature in order to bandit, they usually completely ignore the ongoing event 'because they didn't sign up for it'.

As someone who does player events on a semi regular basis: you absolutely can and should lock people out of a player event if you're running it and feel the need to. For me, I can only handle a group of 5-6 people max before the quality of my emotes suffer. I prefer to be able to focus on everyone attending and I can't do that in large groups. Just call CRP lock if it's a CRP event. If it's not, too bad for the people interrupting; you're still the event runner. You can close off interaction, pause the event and save it for another day, etc and etc. People who stumble into an ongoing, closed event are usually pretty decent about understanding stuff like that anyways. If they're not? Wait them out and don't give them attention, simple as. Send them a link to the "you can't always get what you want" song.

Anyways. I've never heard of players and ET not being able to control a cap on their events.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Everything upon the material plane consists and is made out of the material alphabet (mundane energy and matter visualized as runes, or symbols, that manipulate the veil). It is the study and use of these symbols that makes up the core of what descendants call Alchemy. Despite the entirety of the realm being made of these runes, only a select few Reagents (ingredients, most commonly herbs, that retain at least a single, full measure of symbols that can be successfully extracted for alchemical uses) bear enough of these measures to be usable in alchemical processes. Alchemists (player characters with a valid FA) are scholars of the mundane and of logic, and are the practitioners of this craft, able to understand and utilize the material alphabet after years of study to create various crafts and potions. More experienced Alchemists oft bear dreams about legendary elixirs and, due to a broadening of their mind, experience frenzies of experimentation during their waking hours. It is rare, however, for any but the most enthused and learned to be successful in discovering or creating new recipes.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Base Alchemy is divided into three main sections:

The first is that of symbols and signs, or rather, the material alphabet and its elemental and metaphysical modifiers. Found in reagents, these categorical runes are what make an Alchemist's craft possible. The first step to all Alchemy is learning how to identify these signs and symbols. Those who are more than mere potion crafters seek to properly understand them, as well. Signs are identifiers, and all symbols fall under one of five elemental categories; Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Aether. In addition, it is these categories that tells an Alchemist of how to extract symbols from reagents for use. Symbols are the modifiers within the five categories and are able to be processed into usable material to create potions and other such crafts. Nearing a total of forty different symbols, combinations and mixtures of these reused runes are what give an Alchemist's crafts their effects.

The second is that of Botany, Reagents, and Processing. After months and years of practice, an Alchemist may learn which reagents, most often that of herbs, are able to be utilized in the use of their craft, though others such as blood, flesh, mana, lifeforce, and so on exist. It is this identification and utilization of herbs that is known as BotanyReagents contain the symbols and signs that are able to be extracted in full measures. Through the learning process, an Alchemist will develop the ability to be able to decipher and identify which reagents contain which symbols and signs through close inspection; a skill developed as the alchemist's mind transforms, grows, and sees the world through the lenses of the material alphabet, leaving a master able to discern one from the other over the course of just a few mere hours or less. Processing is the manner in which one extracts symbols from their reagents and wholly depends on the sign the reagent bears. There are five methods for all five Symbols - mudane/aether, fire, water, air, earth - though should the alchemist fail to use the correct process, the signs cannot be used with their elemental prefixes.

The third is that of Potioncraft, in which all the knowledge an Alchemist has gained is put to use to create items known as potions. Crafted atop a base, symbols and other ingredients are mixed together through a variety of processes - some as simple as merely combining while others require a specific set of steps. In addition, the Alchemist will need to learn their way around a lab, for without a variety of specific tools, extraction and creation is nigh impossible without failure.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

    [Creation of Blasting Potion]

As the elfess enters her lab, she sets aside her satchel and peeks within, taking note of the lack of glass bottle in a specifically picked pocket. A huff sounds as air gets expelled, and a murmur of, "that was my last blasting potion, huh?" sounds. The 'ame turns and begins to putter about, retrieving a variety of tools and reagents to work with.

She begins by using the first few hours to retrieve her symbols from her reagents, starting with mundane extractions of 2x Strength from 1x Blood Lotus, 3x Rage from 1x Drake's Tail, and 1x Instability from 1x Jailor's Moss. The differing symbols get set and stored in separate petri dishes, and then she turns to her 1x Sun Shard to begin the process of fire extraction. After ensuring the shard is dried, bearing no moisture, she grinds it up into a powder via a mortar and pestle. Thereafter, it gets set alight until the powder has become and ash, and only then does she pick out 2x Burning symbols from the pile.

With her symbols extracted, the alchemist goes about collecting a portion of Drake's Tail Oil for her base - a process which involves boiling the herb until the oil extracts itself via her alembic - and pours the oil into her hanging cauldron. She places a few coals on the embers beneath, relighting the fire that had been alive the elven day prior. Before the heat truly reaches the oil, the 'ame plops the strength symbols into the base and stirs with a sterile glass rod to dissolve it before slowly bringing the forming concoction to a low boil. The alchemist maintains such a heat, then, as she moves on with the next steps.

Once the mixture has boiled over, she carefully adds her rage symbols and, like prior, stirs until completely dissolved. In goes the burning, and once that, too, is incorporated, she takes the cauldron off the heat with her metal arm and, carefully, pours what's there into a single glass bottle. With a deep breath, she prepares herself, then places a set of protective goggles over her eyes. A funnel gets placed in the neck of the bottle, and then she picks up the petri dish with the single instability symbol within. With utter care, she slowly tilts the petri dish and lets the symbol slide into the concoction...

    [Q] Rayastarli has rolled a 13 out of 20

... and breathes out a small sigh of relief when the symbol hits the concoction's surface without consequence. With utter care, she snags a cork from her shelves and plugs the neck of the bottle closed, then sets the potion to the side to rest.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

    [Creation of Flash Powder]

Phaedra offers a beaming grin towards her student as they enter her lab. "Right on time! Marayla! Did y'bring th' herbs? Y'find them alright?" she asks. "Y'used th' harvestin' methods I taught you for th' Jailor's Moss, ti? I donnae want itchy fingers in m' lab."

The sheepish look on the student's face only broadens the elfess' grin. "you didnae, did you? Lemme guess, you jus' went out und bought th' herbs?" Her head shakes. "Tha' willnae do! We're gonna go out und harvest twice wha' you actually need after this," she chirps out. What a horrid punishment! "But, since you're here, le's get on with th' lesson. Now, y'need two jailor's moss, two blight clusters, und two nightglows. Ah, ti, ti, I see y'brought them. At least they're in ayla condition!"

Phaedra turns, then, and splays her hands towards her collection of tools. "Pick out wha' y'need. We're gonna go o'er one of th' processes t'day - one y'already learned, but I wanna make sure y'got it in your head, ti?"

The alchemist watches as her student picks out a variety of tools, brow quirking lightly when she spots two unneeded ones... and yet, she doesn't comment. "Right, now, we're makin' Poof Pop Powder t'day. We'll learn about why wha' works where when you're a li'l more practiced, so for now, jus' focus on th' process. All these reagents r'quire a single extraction method. Tell me wha' tha' is, und then show me how t' do it."

She listens, nodding along to her students words as they go over the method of extraction for air. She doesn't interrupt and it's only when they're done that she expels a peppy, "marayla! Tha's exactly how tha' works!" A cheeky grin crosses her features. "But it's ne th' right process for t'day. Try again, you've got four more guesses."

Phaedra appears to find amusement in her student's chagrin and, once more, listens to their explanation of extraction - though this time, it's on the mundane. "Ti, tha's right! Cut it up int' teeny tiny pieces, nice und shredded, und then grind it in th' mortar und pestle. I like th' wooden ones, but th' rock ones are a bit more sturdy. Soak it in aqua vitae - iunno why it's called tha', donnae ask me, blame N'dai - und then filter und boil until a powder. But-! You donnae need t' use th' aurum ladel, y'can put tha' down. Tha's only necessary for Aether extraction, ti? It's all magical und mystical like tha'." She wiggles her fingers jestingly.

"Now, y'have all those symbols ready t' be extracted, but y'gotta pick out th' ones y'need t' actually use." She pulls out her book, setting a variety of drawings down, each containing multiple symbols with labels. "Each herb has a few usable symbols in them. I want you t' identify them, und then tell me which ones you think we'll be usin' for makin' th' powder."

Over the course of a few hours, the 'ame supervises the multiple extractions, making small corrections until the student has everything collected and sorted into labelled petri dishes. "Let's see wha' you've got, ti?" She peers over the symbols, getting close enough she may as well be nose to metaphorical nose with them. "Uh huh... uh huh... well-! You've got your light symbols at least! One outta three for your third potion is actually quite ayla! 'M very proud-"

She flips through the pages of her book and points towards the Light symbol drawn out. "Tha's th' one you picked. It's an ayla guess, considerin' we need somethin' t' make th' powder cause a light reaction. But th' other two you're missin'." she flips through the pages and points out the rune for Chaos. "This is called Chaos. It's used in a lotta potions tha' have consistency problems, like th' bottles of fire. Donnae mistake it for th' symbol of instability, though, 'cause this symbol also embodies freedom. 'S great for makin' unreliable things." She flips through a few more pages. "Now this one- this is th' symbol for death. Ne too lovely, I know... but it's part of th' balance, jus' like how e'erythin' is made up of symbols. Without it, this plane wouldnae exist. In this potion, we're usin' it t' make th' powder abrupt, make it end jus' as soon as it's started. Does tha' all make sense?"

Phaedra listens as her student makes a few comments of interest on the matter and encourages them with a nod. "When you're more practiced, it'll be easier t' recognize wha' does wha' und why. Most people jus' craft potions. We're alchemists, though. We gotta learn about why it works so tha' we can use it correctly. Now- mix th' chaos und death symbols t'gether - ti, ti, jus' like tha'. Donnae go spillin' it, but you donnae need t' be careful, you wonnae explode anythin'. Ayla, right int' a powder. Now- th' light symbol's a bit finicky, so we gotta liquify it in a base of water." She aides her student, then, retrieving a small portion of water within a bowl to set it down near, allowing her student to remain in the zone of concentration. "There y'go. Put th' light in, ti. Use tha' magnifyin' glass, watch how it drinks up th' water. Ne literally, 's ne alive, it donnae have a mouth. Now, add th' powder und let tha' all soak, it wonnae take too long. Now, here, I know your favorite color is blue, so I pressed some flowers for dye earlier. Y'can add it in right there und it'll make th' flash blue when y'activate it!"

She offers out a parchment to wrap the powder in. "Perfect. Now, while it's still a li'l clumpy from th' water, wrap it up in tha' parchment. We'll let it set - it shouldnae take more than a few minutes to - and then we'll go find N'dai und test it out on him, ti?" She grins cheekily. "Jus', uhhhhh- get ready t' run." A proud pat is had upon the shoulder of her student.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

As the matter is an OOC issue, I would speak to them in an OOC manner and explain the proper ins and outs of the problem, why it's considered power gaming, and what they should do in the future to keep from making the same mistake. I would try to find where the misunderstanding is coming from and clear up any misconstrued information, and, if needed, walk them through a scenario in which the potion is either created or used correctly. Should the problem matter reoccur after a thorough explanation, and especially if it's obvious the student has ignored corrections, I would bring the matter to the proper staff.

  17. This feels nothing like what the original (and the updated) mindscape lore was going for. The attempt to improve it is appreciated but, personally, I feel this restricts the freedom of mind far too much. If someone is abusing the current lore, that's to be reported and taken care of on a case to case basis. I have rped with many players that use mindscape rp and I haven't seen anyone who has broken a redline (and I am a stickler for following redline rules). Perhaps you're just rping with the wrong people?
