Vivi grew up near the borders of Oren, the daughter of a teacher and lumberjack who were strictly devoted to Canonism. She had an older sister and was surrounded by many cousins growing up. She loved to explore rivers and run in the woods, and developed a love for woodcarving. Vivi lived simply and freely and often never received consequences for the trouble she got into as a child with her cousins because her parents were much more preoccupied with getting her older sister married into an richer family. This led her to act recklessly even as a young adult. One day, her sister finally got married to a firstborn son of a wealthy and devout Canonist family, the Summix's. Just as her sister became a wife, Vivi received news that her sister attempted a murder on her husband, and had been deemed a heretic by the family and had run away. The Summix's were furious with Vivi’s family for they had deceived and humiliated the Summix firstborn. The rest of Vivi’s own family, her cousins and aunts and uncles, shunned Vivi and her parents completely. Vivi’s father received news of her sister having escaped to a small village and went to look for her. 3 years passed and both sister and father never returned. Vivi had spent that time completing manual labour and delivery jobs and her mother selling jewellery. During those three years the duo had travelled often, in fear the Summix's had murdered both Vivi’s sister and father to show devotion and get revenge; and would soon find them. They did, but Vivi and her mother escaped, while the small, but warmhearted community of mere shacks that had offered them shelter during that year had suffered a worse fate. It was destroyed in the wake of the Summix's search. On a gravelly path leading away from the destruction behind them, her mother confessed to Vivi that her sister was eager to get married in the year they began searching for her husband, for she “Loved material possessions” and had always “wanted to marry someone handsome and worthy”. Her mother’s voice trembled with knowing, despite saying , “I don’t know what happened."
