Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.” "I'll never forget that day." He stumbled toward the cushion. Almost melting into it as he slumped into it. "Although I know not why it happened." His eyes trailed across the room. "The names Finch, Finch Hartwyck. I lived out on a farm on the outskirts of the empire. Spent my days tending to the horses, occasionally going out with my father on hunting trips. Although, my favourite thing of all was to take the horses out and ride through the woods around the farm." He chuckled a bit, " If I was lucky I'd make it all the way to the river before being caught." Finch's eyes moved toward the window. He looked out into the town, a somber expression overtook his face. "It was one of these such days where it all went wrong. I had always dreamed of leaving that farm behind. Exploring the world and going on adventures. Serving kings and queens and saving princesses from towers. However, I've come to realize that the true dream, was that boring old farm." Finch looked down toward the floor before bringing his gaze back up towards the hag, "I was on the outskirts of the farm when I saw smoke on horizon. I damn near killed my horse running back to the farm only to be met with what looked like an army burning it to the ground. On the hill I saw what must have been their leader." His teeth clenched, and his somber expression was replaced with one of anger. "He looked to be some sort of knight. He wore black armor, a black cloak, and had some sort of crimson red emblem. I couldn't quite make out his face as he had his hood covering his head but I could tell that he looked directly at me. He was wielding some sort of glowing sword. He rose it above his head and ordered more of his cavalry to descend toward out farm and I ran." Tears welled up in Finch's eyes. "We were just farmers, I don't understand what we did deserve this. I'll tell you what though. I'm going to find that bastard and kill him!" Finch had now been standing. His voice full of rage. "I may not be a knight right now, but I will be. I VOW IT! And when I am I'll find that man and his honorless group of bandits, and give them justice. Finch reached for a pendant around his neck. He grasped what looked to be the end of a wooden spoon. "And I wont be alone. My brother is out there, I know he is." Finch calmed down, leaning down to meet the hag's gaze. "However noble my quest me be, I will not lie to say I know what I'm doing. I'm lost, and would much appreciate some directions. Do you happen to know where a commoner like me can become a Knight?"
