Tsune Hirano looked over the notice over a cup of tea, her expression a mix of both incredulousness and amusement. "Elvenesse is just being used as the continent's emergency fund at this point; If I run low on my ferrum stock I should accuse them of war crimes, Its in vogue after all."

PrefaceSpoilerThis is Al’tahrn-Durngo or ‘the black language’, back in the day this language was written by Watyll (May he rest in peace) and has served as an RP enhancement for the Dark Mage roleplayers on Lord of the Craft ever since. Prior to his passing Watyll gave Mephistophelian the right to expand and add onto his language and when he left the server Mephistophelian unfortunately didn’t have anyone to pick it up. Since then it has mostly remained ornament save for being used as a reference for other dark magic projects. I have always used this language as a resource on several of my characters. I asked Zarsies if it would be okay to write an expansion given he was the last person to work on it and he approved and he and Mordu lended a hand in tying this to current world lore.
The legwork of the language was already done for me, sentence structure and many words had already been defined by Watyll and those that came after so I didn’t have to update the grammar or usage.
In using Al’tahrn-Durngo very often I have found that the language struggles with Its vocabulary being limited and since Its structure is pretty much perfect already I saw the only improvement I could make would be to expand upon the lexicon with new words and allow for more widespread usage by editing the effects it has upon the mind of non-darkmages.
I have spent the past three days nonstop compiling verbs, adjectives, and nouns and discussing ways to tie this into current lore. I am very tired.
LoreAl'tahrn-Durngo is known as the Black Language for one reason; all things tainted, evil, corrupt or dark are capable of speaking it. (Including but not limited to: all undead, necromancers, mystics, frost witches, shades, striga, silit, and shade parasites) The origin of the language is the Ebritaes, in which the grating and guttural ‘true language’ is used telepathically by mortal souls adrift in the stream to communicate with one another. The language was unleashed upon descendantkind when Ikuras set Its eyes upon the stream and prodded the language toward the dreaming minds of living mortals with wounded souls, those plagued by dark knowledge, and those unnaturally connected to the soulstream without the song of Aeriel to prevent the intrusive language from reaching their minds. Due to its very nature as the language shared in the Ebritaes however the souls of all races are doomed to inevitably wield knowledge of this supernatural tongue and once they have heard it enough every sapient being with a soul will develop a resistance to its grating effects and can even learn it while still among the living.
While The language is unpleasant to those unaffiliated with the dark arts at first and grates at the ears like nails on a chalkboard or scraping metal the longer you persist in listening to the language the less disgusting it becomes to hear. Eventually a complete tolerance to its guttural vernacular will be developed and the listener can even be taught the language at which point one’s ability to learn Al’tahrn-Durngo is restricted only by their motivation and learning retention.
Script
SpoilerLinked with this language is the script, which is slowly understood by dark mages the first time they read it, and eventually becomes so easy, it is like reading common. To common folk, however, the words are harsh on the eyes, and cannot be read properly. It would be like trying to look into the sun for too long. The link to the Dark Script is here: https://fontstruct.com/fontstructions/show/916596/the-black-script

Past tense is denoted by adding an urk' to the front of the verb
Future tense is denoted by adding an ag' to the front of the verb
Present tense(ing) is denoted by adding a daz' to the front of the verb (knowing, knows)
Imperative tense (commands) is denoted by adding a guh'
Present subjunctive tense (has done, have done) is denoted by putting the word 'narg' in front of the verb, then attaching gertt' to the front of the verb.
Past subjunctive (has died, have died) is denoted by putting the word 'narg' in front of the verb, then attaching re' to the front of the verb.
Articles attach themselves to the words they affect.
Possession is denoted by adding a 'sek to a pronoun or noun. For instance yours or your is do'sek

Red linesSpoiler-Al'tahrn-Durngo's abrasive pronunciation cannot be weaponized or somehow made relevant to combat; the discomfort of hearing it cannot cause damage.
-Al'tahrn-Durngo is a language and as such cannot be instantly known and understood; it takes years (e.g. 2 IRL weeks or more) of practice before someone is fully fluent regardless of whether they naturally develop it as a dark mage or creature or as someone being taught.

My only complaint for this is that historically shade magic has added very little to roleplay with the takeover mechanics because it has often been treated as a 'oh no I'm taken over but I'm only attacking the person I don't like' and has been a circlejerk of treating the magic as an OOC cabal and trading card for other magics. As a former shade I'm soured for life on the magic but this is well written nonetheless.

Ya’ll didn’t know my Boy Achan-Chatla invented the universal ritual. And once more, I didn’t know that either.

He said in this thread he would allow the LT to handpick people from other factions who already have arcanism to undertake learning the new lore. So...I’d say it’s not geared to his benefit at all.

I’ll refute the point about ‘not trusting the current playerbase to have it’ It’s totally different than the current magic and if you insert this with as many people as possible (by your own admission, hundreds) you are immediately presenting an opportunity for the misuse, power gaming, and misinterpretation of the magic. The fights associate will busy the GM Team, the Lore boys, The Magic Boys, everyone will be bothered and expected to shoulder the immense burden immediately.
The TA/MA wipe I see as reasonable because in execution administering a rewrite to (by your own admission) hundreds of people you guarantee that you can’t attend to every single person who wants to learn and wants to clear up confusion and also deal with those who vehemently exploit the wording in bane of the spirit of the lore piece.
Everything that is being said about Kalehart is just being said in bad faith, I get it’s a concern that the magic will become clique based and you yourself claim he is mostly reasonable you’re operating under the assumption that this idea is done without reason and purely for selfish and ill intent. While you’re concerned about it, you’re also (from a third party persepctive) resorting to ad hominem and operating under the assumption of ill intent in your arguments.
Howard may not be right but it does certainly SEEM like you you boys are getting mad about your pixel power.1 -

Hi It’s Tentoa. Just popping by on my never ending trip to the cigarette and milk store to say:
“Just scrap all that stuff your wrote and rewrite it to my specifications because I don’t trust you despite all the good faith you’ve openly admitted you’re willing to give to the rest of the community for this new entirely different magic.”
Hey instead of being counter-productive you could also suggest something like:
Let the team pick out your group of grandfathered people based on their individual interest and impartial mediation and volunteer to illustrate the spirit of the magic and answer questions regarding your spells and abilities. And if you can’t trust the lore portion of the Story Team to be non-biased in their decision making; Why do we have them?0 -
Idk I guess go ahead sure

The ironic thing is if LoTC wasn't a pixel-grab there wouldn't be this big divide in the community and such toxicity. If this wasn't a joke you could actually implement a split server with actual effort and maybe make something that would be more friendly and enjoyable.

I enslaved Zarsies for most all of my building on the server. I have worked him like a rented redheaded stepchild since Asulon and I am lead to believe he may just be a masochist who enjoys the abuse of mineman deadlines. +1

Adeodatus Ipos, a knight of seven-hundred years, victim of warfare, supernatural darkness, prejudice for his Mali'ker heritage, and often the victim of internal strife in his clan looked toward the bitter Aobh, tightening his grip on his weapon and lectured in response: "Why did you do that? People drink from that river. The ink could be bad for the fish. That's really inconsiderate."
