  1. Toril the Bard wanders through the streets. His stomach grumbles. He checks his pockets but finds only lint and a couple of minas. He sighs. Then a sharp note pricks his ear. An eerie but cheery tune. He moves closer to the sound. He hears the sound of merriment and laughter accompanying the music. "A crowded pub" he thinks to himself aloud "I could earn a few minas there tonight", his stomach moans in agreement. He makes his way to the pub, stepping over a few mumbling drunks who lie in the gutters as he approaches the door. As he enters the pub he sees the masked man playing the tune and another in the corner strumming a harp. Struck by the strangeness of the two men, he decides to wait til they have finished before trying his luck at singing. He wanders over to the barman to ask about some small compensation for a night's entertainment...
  2. *attaches a note underneath the other notes* it reads "To those concerned I am a wandering bard by trade, but I have a background in farming, normally the idea of a permanent address would be out of the question for my lifestyle, but with times being as dangerous as they are are making me reconsider, at least for the time being. Send me a pidgeon with the details. Toril Muddruff"
  3. Out-Of-Character Minecraft Account Name: Winddrake1801 How old are you?: I am twenty one years old. Time-Zone/Country of Residence: Ireland, GMT +0 Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Yes I am fluent in English, as it is my first language. I am also very competent in it's proper usage. Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: My name is Sean. I'm a student studying science at university. I love playing and listening to music, I also make some really bad attempts at composing some of my own. How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Well due to things like assignments and projects that I have to do in my course I can't say that I can be on for very stable times. However I would try to play for at least an hour every day if I had the chance. What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is where you take on the identity of a person you have made up or has been made up for you. You essentially become them in mind and spirit. You react as they would react and talk as they would talk regardless of your out-of-character accent or mannerisms. You try to immerse yourself in their world and way of life. What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: Meta-Gaming is where you take information your in-game-character couldn't possibly know, i.e. something that you learned while out of character on the forums or chat, and use that information to your advantage in the world. This could be as simple as knowing a persons name before you had spoken to them in game to organizing meet-ups at specific coordinates. In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Meta-Gaming is where you take information your in-game-character couldn't possibly know, i.e. something that you learned while out of character on the forums or chat, and use that information to your advantage in the world. This could be as simple as knowing a persons name before you had spoken to them in game to organizing meet-ups at specific coordinates. In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Power-gaming is where you take away the oppurtunity for roleplay from another charcter by forcing an action upon them. e.g. player1* warps cloth around player2*'s mouth so they can't speak. What do you expect this server will be like?: I expect that it will be fun and immersive. Other servers that I had tried lacked depth in the role play experience I hope this server is different. I'm hoping that the other people on the server will take the roleplay seriously but will still have fun with it. What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: pvp.madgaming.eu and I didn't leave I am an administrator on the server and still have fun there. It's not a roleplay server but it is still very difficult to engage in server activities like factions without becoming biased towards some of the players. I have played on other roleplay servers but can't for the life of me remember them, guess it shows how much of an impression they made. Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes I have done all three. Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: I do. How did you hear about us?: I heard about it from another admin on the server I play on, troopermatthew, who knows Tythus in real life, I think they randomly met on the bus or tube one day. Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?: Yes I have three times 3996, 343 and 765 In-Character: Character Name: Toril Muddruff is my name, and singing songs is my game. What Race are you?: I'm a Human of course can't you tell? What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Ah I'm just an ordinary man, nothing special nothing grand. Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Ah "The Tale of Toril Muddruff" not so much a song more of a ballad. Normally I wouldn't like to sing about meself, I haven't had that much of an exciting life at all. But if You'd like to hear it then sure. Ahem* 'T'all started in the land known as Oren, you see, There was a kindly small family, Me parents and me, Me Father an' mother would work dawn 'til dusk, And to ne'er a man would they kick up a fuss. A small little farm where they grew enough food, and with what was left over, fine ales there were brewed, Far from the towns but not close to wild, They settled and planned how to bring up their child. Oh he'll be a gallant hero, said me mother with glee, Not at all said me father, An ole farmer like me. But slowly it dawned I couldn't care not a bit, To a life of violence I just would not commit, and equally so it ne'er crossed me brain, to spend me final years, harvesting grain. No the life of the wanderer I was desperate to be, To live a full life, all those wonders to see, I'd write them all down and then sing with my lute, To relive the epics, tall tales and heroes to boot. Yes a bard I became, And a good one with that, I could rattle off rhymes, at the drop of a cat. Heh heh, needs a bit of work I know. Hard to make your average farm kid story sound interesting though isn't it. It's true what I said though. I grew up on a small farm in Oren until I was bout 5 or 6, but then o' course we had to flee 'cause of the War of the Undead. We moved a lot back then don't really remember much of it. Mostly remember me mother and father being scared, kept telling me everything would be alright, wish I could remember it though would have made a good story. After the whole Drauchriem thing we set sail for the new world. Man I loved them ships. The sailers singin' songs and the stories we'd hear of the champions at night were the first thing that got me into the life of a bard. We landed in Asulon after what seemed like forever. After a while they managed to find a nice spot for a farm just a little out of the way of Alrus. They grew grain and made their own ales. Though I don't think they won any tasting competitions. My father wanted me to become a farmer like him when I was older, but I just couldn't see meself in it. I wanted to see the world ya know. I used to sneak down to the local taverns at night and hear the men singing songs about heroes and wars and great battles. It was inspiring stuff, and while it never made me want to take up the sword and charge off into battle, it certainly put me off a farmers life. I knew what I wanted to do with my life when an old bard came to the town one night. I think I was twelve at the time. His songs were so captivating and yet he played on a raggedy ole lute, thing looked older than he was. I caught him as he left the tavern the next morning and asked him how he could play and sing the way he did. He told me this " Music's got to be in your heart boy, learning to sing and learning to play will do naught but help you bring out the music already inside, but if you haven't got that you wont go far." I asked him, did you ever want to ride off and fight like the men in your songs? and he says to me "Surely not, we need the men to sing the songs of the deeds of others, as much as we need men to do the deeds. If not for the singers who would keep their legend alive, if not for music to inspire the soul and to bring life and vibrance to the world, would there be any point in fighting for it?" "Here!" he says as he takes out a very new looking lute "Got this as a gift in the last town I played in, not a great sound but it'll get ya started... they really don't make em like they used to anymore" He said to me as he patted his raggedy old lute. Changed me life that day I knew in me heart more than anything I wanted to write the epics that would come to pass in my lifetime. At eighteen. Me ole da sat me down. He said to me "Son I know this farmin' business aint what you want. So me an your mother decided it's time for you to get out and see the new world. The longer you stay here the harder it'll be to leave. You have to follow your dream son! Who knows maybe someday someone will write a song about you, Toril Muddruff the greatest bard in Aluson!" They gave me enough minas to get me a few night in an inn before I could start busking or playing at taverns and I went out into the open world. What is your Character's ambitions?: Oh I wish to write the most beautiful, and elegant songs of the goings on in Asulon, from the mundane skirmishes to the epic wars. I want to sing of the rise of nations and the fall of kings. To tell tales of the lucky chances that turned the tides, and great laments of heroes defeats. What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): I'd never go anywhere without my trusted lute. Sure promise to play for a man while he works and he'll usually throw you a few bits and bobs for your troubles. What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? Well I dont want to keep harping on about my lute playing, I guess I have some talents in farming. I may not have cared for it but I did pick up enough from me ole da to know me way around a farm. A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format): Other Information about your Character: Appearence: Brown hairs, brown eyes, average height. Age 22. Open-Response-Questions Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? He runs as fast as he can to the nearest settlement to raise the alarm. Hoping that a guard or a few of the locals will rush out to help. After the halfling has been saved he would write a song about their bravery and promise to sing it in the neighbouring villages. Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Ah good evening to ya sir. I'm not looking to buy right now, you just look like the type o' fella who would know a lot of people in this town. I was wondering if you could point me to an inn keeper or tavern owner. I'm a bit low on funds these days, perhaps if I can make some money tonight I'll be back to buy one of your fine shirts. Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: The life of a bard is always tough, you never know when the next meal or minas will come from. On the other hand a bard with a gold sword would definitely look out of place. He would check around to make sure the place had been abandoned for a while and then takes the iron bars to sell for a hot meal and a bath. Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? Greetings fellow men, please help me. I have been wandering lost and dazed for a few days now. Bandits attacked me and left me for dead. Please I dont wish to be a burden but if you could spare some food and warmth I would be most grateful. I am a bard my business takes me all around Asulon. I could sing songs of your generosity spreading the word about your trading camp. I could entertain ya as well once I get me strength back. You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: And I will raise that offer! I am Toril Muddruff. Reknowned Bard *shhh* well... a bard. I promise to write an epic tale with the names of all the men who volunteer to help make this village safe again. I assure you they will hear of your deeds all around Asulon!

My father wanted me to become a farmer like him when I was older, but I just couldn't see meself in it. 6. Out-Of-Character: My name is Sean, I'm a college student from Ireland. Minecraft Account Name: winddrake1801 Did you attend minecon and sign up at the LOTC booth?: No. How old are you?: 21 Time-Zone/Country of Residence: Ireland (GMT) Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Yes it's my first language. Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I'm 21. I'm currently studying physics in Trinity College Dublin. I love music and I play a few musical instruments (clarinet, saxophone, violin and a few others but not very well). How much time could you be on the server weekly?: 1-2 hours a day during the week. maybe an hour on sundays but I work week-ends. What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you.: I know about roleplaying but I dont have much experience taking part in it. It's all about immersing yourself into a character. Assuming a new personality and traits are all part of the game. It's something I really want to get into. In your own Words, describe what Metagaming and Powergaming are. I wasn't initially familiar with the concepts but a little research has lead me to believe that Metagaming is where you take information that the character you are roleplaying as couldnt possibly know and use it to your advantage. Powergaming is where a person roleplaying takes advantage of other players by leaving them no options for roleplaying. Or in other words forces the other players to do things via the roleplaying system for example if a person was having a conversation and suddenly a player says "player puts duct tape on other players mouth". What do you expect this server will be like?: I have no idea, that's what makes it so enticing. I hope it will be like a fantasy book or world. Where heroes rise and fall. Where villains seek control of the world and wreak havoc upon the land. All the while the average person tries to go about their lives as if this isn't happening around them. What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: pvp.Madgaming.eu and I didn't leave I'm a moderator there but it's very hard to engage in the play whilst also remaining unbiased so it can take the fun out of playing which is why i seek out other servers while I'm not busy there. Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes I have. How did you hear about us?: Fellow moderator from my server. Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you? I have now voted several times, 3996, 343 for some reason and one other number that I cant remember. What is your The Lord Of Craft forum account name?: winddrake1801 In-Character: winddrake1801 Character Name: Valos What is your Race?: Human Biography(This should include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Briefly: Valos was born on a stormy night to a howling wind and rain. Both his mother and father were simple farmers, both human, but Valos was born with bright red eyes indicating that his lineage may not have been pure. He lived on his father's farm until he was 14 working hard and learning the ways of growing crops and raising animals. But he never enjoyed the work, the life of a farmer suited his father but not Valos. He wanted more out of life he wanted to be a part of the greater world, he wanted to help shape it and change it for the better. Every night he would lie awake at night wishing he could go to one of the universities in the great cities but he knew as a farmer he could never afford to go. Anytime he got any pocket money he would rush to the stores to buy books or blocks for building machines. His father thought it pointless but allowed him to do it anyway thinking he would grow out of it one day. One day a passing traveler saw Valos messing with some redstone gates, creating simple circuits for opening and closing the pig den. He was very impressed and asked had he been taught how to make them. When Valos replied that he taugh himself the traveller was very impressed. The Traveler revealed he was a teacher. He did not work at the university but his small school taught students from all around the world and that more often than not people from the universities came to offer scholarships to the brightest students from his school. He offered to teach Valos about the workings of the world and of machines at his school a small way away from Alras for free. Valos's Father couldn't handle the farm by himself and wouldn't let him go. Valos asked that if he could make the farm run automatically would he be allowed to go and learn. Valos's father agreed and to the surprise of Valos's Father and the traveler Valos made the farm automatic in less then a day using the little resources he had. Valos went with the traveller to the school and learned the way of redstone circuitry and science until he was 18 when a terrible incident occured. Valos had been out in the school's mine digging redstone for his next project, a cobblestone generator, when a group of wandering bandits happened upon the school. They saw all the redstone and contraptions and designs and decided to pillage the school. They tied the teacher and the other pupils up in the back room and stole everything of value. They then set the building alight. Valos' teacher and the other pupils died in the attack. When Valos returned he thought there had just been a terrible accident. He searched around the school for survivors but found only one. It was a student but he was badly burnt and Valos could barely tell which of his former class mates it was. Holding him in his arms the student managed to speak only one word "..bandits..". Valos' Heart was filled with rage. All that he had learned did not matter. When before his mind used to drift to all the wonders of the world and the mysteries it held. Now it was filled with one thought... vengeance. He lost his desire and yearning for knowledge after the attack. He could not justify in his heart the pursuit of knowledge while there was still so much chaos in the world and he took up the sword in order to bring peace to the world and hopefully to find the troupe of bandits who had taken everything he had held dear. Age: 27 Appearence: Brown hair, but with dark red eyes. Persona: Normally mild mannered and slow to anger but memories from his past can send him into a fearsome rage. I would go on but I read this needs to be short ask me if you want more deatils. Your characters ambitions: To bring peace to the world and then to finally settle down and to live out his final years teaching and researching like his old master. Out in the Wilds, your character comes across a small cottage. Outside, there appears to be an elf struggling combat with two bandits. What does your character do? He draws his bow and creeps towards the bandits. He studies their fighting patterns looking for weaknesses, 'it would be foolish to rush into something like this' he thinks to himself. He catches the conversation of the bandits and the elf. "Give up now elf your skills are no match for ours, we've killed many of your kind with ease and you will be no different". says one of the bandits as he swings his sword down on the elf. The elf blocks the attack barely with a small wooden shield. "Yeah tell us where your treasure is buried and we'll let you live." says the second who swings a greatsword at the elf "I'd rather die" the elf retorts as he dodges the attack. The first bandit raises his sword as the second knocks the elf off balance with a kick. As he falls to the ground he flinches as he sees the sword about to come down on him just then Valos let's an arrow loose from his bow. It strikes the bandit right between the eyes, he falls to the ground dead. The other bandit, confused, swings around to face at Valos. The elf seizes the oppurtunity and plunges his blade into the bandits back. He crumples into a heap on the ground. The elf stands up and thanks Valos'. He offers to buy him beers for the night at the local tavern. Valos' agrees and the two spend the night drinking, swapping stories and singing songs of old. In the morning Valos' thanks the elf for his hospitality and continues on his way. Your character walks up to a shop in a quiet market. "Hello, my good sir!" says the shop owner. "What may I help you with today?" How does your character answer? Valos - "A fine evening to you good sir. I was told your quaint little shop was one of great intrigue and not at all what it appears" Shop Owner - *He gives him a searching stare* "Aye lad... I have many a rare oddity or ancient weapon here. Don't spread the word around though... let's just say how I acquire these items would be of interest to the local guard. In any case are you interested in buying some of my wares? I warn you though these things come at a high price, ya wont regret it though" Valos - "I am indeed. Specifically I've heard tales you have swords that can cause a man to catch fire as if he had been struck by flint and steel. Or swords so sharp they can cut through stone as if it were warm butter. I'd be interested in buying one. I have gold and jewels enough for anything" Shop Owner - "Very well" he says giving Valos a wink "This one should do ya fine" he reaches into a chest and pulls out a bright blue sword. It glows purple in the light and almost seems like it is making a low hum. Valos - "What's so special about this one?" Shop Owner - "Have you ever been in battle lad, and for some reason your sword seems to be sharper and deadlier than ever as if by luck. Where normally it would take a few swings to bring down a zombie, and then your sword clefts it in twane... only every so often though" Valos nodded, he had indeed had such luck before. Shop Owner - "With this sword every fight will be like that, you'll swing it thinking you are just going to bash a shield when suddenly it will cut right through killing your opponent. You take a stab at a creeper who has just creeped up on you knowing your fate is sealed when the stab kills the creeper instantly. With this sword you'll be unstoppable" Valos was skeptical, but the man who had told him about this shop swore on his life that it was the real deal - "Very well I'll take it, but if I don't see this lucky blade doing it's thing I'll be back and you'll be hoping it isn't working" The shop owner cracked a crooked smile "50 gold bars then if you please" A screenshot of your skin: My skin is a really old one. I wasn't initially familiar with the concepts but a little research has lead me to believe that Metagaming is where you take information that the character you are roleplaying as couldnt possibly know and use it to your advantage. Powergaming is best described as taking the fun out of the roleplaying. You are playing the game with the specific goal to win instead of have fun or to play the game without immersing yourself in the world. If these are wrong please post me a link to somewhere were i can get a better understanding of it.
