By moonlit campfire, an ancient and frail Elf laid weeping on the ground in a broken cobble - thin and pale hands traced in an impossibility of prominent silver scars clutched around an obsidian and equally timeworn staff. Desperately did the Wizard try to find comfort in examining the alien figurine crowning the eldritch tool he held so tenderly, only finding the stark blackness that defined his new blind existence.

Thus the cycle began once again for Saeldur, quiet sobs echoing faintly into the surrounding forest as the Elf frantically tried a reframe a mind already once forced to adapt to a different and foreign existence - realizing with a shudder he could no longer rely on the arcana that shaped his life since Asulon without the ability to see; no longer able to face the threat encompassing Arcas and wider realm. Lapsing off into a fitful and hopeless sleep on the boggy ground just off the coastline, the Elf would suddenly awaken in a panic-stricken toil. The forest, inlet, and muddy ground he slept on beginning to cast a ruddy and shadowed illumination as Saeldur once again began to foolishly hope.

This short period of respite was shattered by a dull and pulsating thrum that reverberated around the vaguely incorporeal forest, realizing with a sigh that he casted off into a dream, begging to the unknown darkness to foster this illusion as reality.

    “Make me whole again.”

As the diaphanous shadow projecting off the false surroundings Saeldur perceived as real peaked to a foreboding crescendo, the Elf was faced with a horror that would make anyone question whether sight was truly necessary at all:

“I would do anything - please.”

    -J-0YteBFY8K6eEtPlOnwoSIAHueHoBfVo2Xs0qY7F75lc2_npHuTbJsd9m7i4PvUswgSc8GqUnlFbe_kVymWzLw-jxMkkKFwXu8mzmK9IRIJFEbFP2zqgxIANn2P0qfpQNQnGD3

Quaking in fear while burying his muddled and pale eyes into the crook of his shoulder, Saeldur released a muffled cry during his sobbing plea - the entity of shadow now closely examining the broken Elf and seeming to find amusement in his worldly demise.

    C̱̺̺̤̅́o͇̬̻̱͚̻͚̅̾͂͋ͭ̎́v̡̺̻̲̳̠͍̹̐ͧ̽ͣͮͣ’ͬ̏̽̎r̴̆ ̉͐̉͋̒ͧ̃͜y̶̬͎̱͖ͮ͊̃̒o̘̟̤͈͚͚̺̊ͫ͠ư̿͗͐̋̌ṟ̲̼̘̉̾͌̉̀ ̖̩͔̜ͥ̏̌ͨe͔͗̃́y̫̭̝̟ͯͥͭ͋̔̑e͚̠ͩ̇̍̎̉s̭̰̠͎͚̫̲.̽́̓ͫ

The words came like a nail struck through his skull and into the very core of his person: not a simple request, but a demand. Knowing only acquiescence, the Elf awoke to find himself slightly lowering the silver mantle of his circlet to cover his eyes, shakily tying it off with loose strands of his robes. As he adjusted to the covering veiling his eyes and forehead, the hellscape around him began to gradually subside - the creature fading with it as the darkness embedded into Saeldur’s surroundings returned to normal - his ability to perceive, however warped, returned with it.

  3. [!] A letter would appear in the mailbox of Daniel, enclosed by a waxy sigil that emanates a soft azure arcanic glimmer. [!]

    Leader of Men,

It has come to my direct attention that the demons of Korvassa now stand at your doorstep, and surely you are aware that this spells certain death for you and your people despite their silver tongues and empty promises of peace. With this immutable fact known, I beseech you to open your gates to my order, the Unified Mages Guild, and allow our collective knowledge and arcanic prowess to be a beacon of light for your people during these intrepid and uncertain times. Do not cow or bow down to the infernal beasts that have already slaughtered countless numbers of men, women, and children, and find solace or security in the chance of peace I offer to you through our collective strength and will. We will be in touch.

[!] The letter is signed simply: Archmage Saeldur [!]

looks interesting, but does anyone have the lore piece of kal’varak? sounds so damn dwarven and yet makes no sense to me why it is related with dark magic

    good mart tho

It’s actually just an aurum figurine of the Kal’Varak, not the object itself (The Kal’Varak was a huge floating crystal capable of transporting one to a mind prison) that this character had significant interaction with way back in Anthos (Hiebe let the Mages Guild study it back then). Thanks for giving it a read!

  5. An ancient Elf reads the missive in careful contemplation, a thoughtful expression growing over his withered and eldritch countenance. Arming himself with quill and ink, he would pen a response in a meticulous hand – knowing exactly where to leave it;

“You have my support, old friend. Whatever it is you need, know I will always accompany those that shoulder the burden of man. In the name of prosperity,”

Zarsies just couldn’t add the blood magic description to the staff because he could not remove @Johann’s signature/the original bulky description I provided.

MC Item description (the exact description that will be used for the MC item if this MArt is accepted):

The staff used by Saeldur Asul'ailer to battle the Aengul Gazardriel in his twisted home realm. The long and ancient 72" haft is composed of simple and unadorned obsidian, crowned at the top by an aurum figurine of the Dwarven Kal'Varak. Embedded into each side of the metallic sphere are interwoven foci crystal that shimmer with a deep azure arcanic energy, magegold running like veins inside its core and deeply into the obsidian shaft below that whispers static crackles of electricity.

With the word “Ailer” muttered to the figurine, the enchantment on the staff would activate. [Enchantment - Water Evocation “Water Shield.” May not be activated or continue to charge if weapon is struck whatsoever in combat. Follows redlines of “Grand Enchantment” and “Water Shield”. Three uses per combat encounter. When blood is introduced to the staff, and the word “Ailer” simultaneously muttered, taking a total of three emotes, the electrically charged water evocated shield can be summoned, the charge lingering in the shield for 2 emotes]

    Effect(s) of the Artifact:

Simple and ancient in nature, the Archanix’ Folly is the token of remembrance Saeldur quite literally relies on to stand, but also as a constant reminder to always be wary of the paths he treads down. While imbued with a grand enchantment of water evocation in the form of a water shield with bursting and misdirection capability, the true form of the eldritch instrument truly came to realization upon its introduction to the primal forces of pale blood magic; an elemental enchantment of lightning bound to the very core of object itself. It is the interaction between the lightning enchantment and transfigured water enchantment, when simultaneously activated through their own respective means, that arms the Archanix’ Folly with its most potent defensive mechanism: a reverberating shield of electrically charged voidally spawned water. While normally only capable of misdirecting objects and providing a simple barrier of water, the introduction of blood and the activation of the dormant magic lurking within will provide the simple voidal enchantment with an additional layer of defense through electrically charged water.

    Red Lines of the Artifact:

2/4 of the staff, including the Kal’Varak symbolhead and innard components of the staff, are composed of brittle aurum - meaning that it adheres to the transfiguration redlines of any direct hit rendering the water evocation enchantment null - As for the blood magic enchantment, it still retains its electric qualities if activated by the mages blood as this is irrespective to that lore (the electrically-imbued water shield would unable to be summoned if the staff sustained a blow, as it relies on the activation of both innate magical enchantments. The primal forces of elemental blood magic render an object permanently endowed with the elemental quality when introduced to blood, unless completely broken through a severe-enough blow to the volcanic-glass and layered aurum).

“Lightning: objects imbued with lightning give off a static shock when touched and emit sharp, shrill pops and crackles when drug against metal or metal-imbued objects. When lightning-imbued weapons are wet with the blood of their wielder they give a skin-numbing zap (tingling / loss of tactile sensation, not paralysis and it doesn’t prevent someone from still acting/moving) which lingers for 2 emotes. This effect remains active so long as the weapon is bloodied.”

With the word “Ailer” muttered to the figurine, the enchantment on the staff would activate. [Enchantment - Water Evocation “Water Shield.” 1 emote to whisper activate the enchantment, 1 emote to form the shield, or +1 emote to widen/strengthen the shield (up to three total.) May not be activated or continue to charge if weapon is struck whatsoever in combat. Follows redlines of “Grand Enchantment” and “Water Shield”. Three use per combat encounter.

When blood is introduced to the staff, and the word “Ailer” simultaneously muttered, taking a total of three emotes, the electrically charged water evocated shield can be summoned, the charge lingering in the shield for 2 emotes as redlined in the lightning elemental PBM lore above. This can only be done once in a single combat session, although the water enchantment without the charge can be still be used for its original three combat uses in a single session as redlined under grand enchantment lore. As aforementioned, if struck in any capacity, all of these attributes are rendered useless and null due to the brittle aurum nature and ancientness of the Staff.

The electrically charged water shield can not be manipulated into a projectile, but only used in a defensive capacity with the potential for an unwitting foe to strike through it and receive an enhanced electric shock due to the combination of water and lightning.

Explanation of the effect(s) (i.e. how it does what it does - slight bending of magic lore is allowed):

As detailed more specifically above, the shield has two separate enchantments attributed to it: a grand enchantment of water evocation, while the object itself is imbued with elemental lightning through a primal blood magic ritual. The combination of the two enchantments gives it notable properties that require a Mart as directed by Zarsies – namely an electrically charged water shield that has the ability to shock a foe into almost complete numbness like a fly trap.

Think about looking at Celestite weapons again. I think combat enchants are already nerfed in the new transfiguration lore so the way it works might be redundant.

Might be cool to see some form of a repair over time effect?

Taking into account the new transfiguration lore, I agree and implemented a system where celestial aura passively regrows Celestite out of combat over the duration of an OOC day if the enchant was activated and used in combat. Thanks for the suggestions and help as always!

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

    Transfiguration

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Transfiguration, a two-slot magic, is essentially the nuanced exertion of mana to affect both physical and magical change on an object or the environment. Through the intense study of the physical and magical world around them, a voidal magi can essentially manipulate mana to create a host of effects. Classic transfiguration study segregates these aforementioned effects into four distinctive studies: voidal feeling, transmutation, abjuration/warding, and enchanting.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

    Voidal Feeling:

Voidal feeling is one of the key spells in a transfigurationists’ tool-belt, namely being the imbibing of mana into an object to discern its latent properties. After the careful incursion of mana in an inanimate object, the transfigurationist can educate themselves on its physical and magical properties by drawing the mana back to their person. Such an intimate knowledge of an non-living object requires almost a meditative focus and utterly serene environment void of distraction.

    Transmutation:

Perhaps what comes to mind most when people think of transfigurationists’ of yore; transmutation is the art of exerting mana to change the physical properties of an inorganic object. One must first be intimately familiar with the materials they wish to transmute or change through the introduction of manipulated mana, and secondly has to follow what has been coined the equivalent exchange law, an immutable and fundamental theorem dictating that matter cannot be created nor destroyed, merely replaced by something that’s equivalent or equal to. A plethora of both aesthetic and practical effects can be achieved within this sect of transfiguration, namely the changing or alterations of hues or colors, changing the shapes of things entirely, casting magelight, or binding together traditionally insolvent materials.

    Abjuration & Warding:

Abjuration and warding, while different in terms of how they are casted, effectively seek the same end – to destroy the integrity of an opposing casters spell through the deterioration and distortion of their mana. In order to achieve this feat, a mage must have an enhanced understanding of the magic they are seeking to expel or break apart, which is only gained by experience through actually casting said magic. Warding is the practice of creating disc-like distortions of mana that act a shield to the alterationists’ person, pulling apart another magi’s spell as it makes contact with said distortion. Abjuration is the act of deconstructing spells through the use of a projectile, pooling together a ball sized distortion of mana to physically shoot at another spell in hopes of clashing with it mid-air.

    Enchanting:

In the primordial belt of an alterationist lives perhaps their most important tool – enchanting. Transfigurationists’ can replicate the usage of arcane spells by imbuing the magical effects of a spell into a physical object powered by an unyielding mana source that requires regeneration. By imbibing an object with a mana source and the directives of a spell or spells, even a non-magi can trigger the effects purposely imbued into an object, though it requires a certain “on-switch,” or replicable pattern to activate the spell stored within. These enchantments obviously have to follow the same rules of the spells they aim to replicate, and often must be recharged and actively maintained. The strength of these enchantments is categorized into two varieties, namely lesser and potent enchants. Lesser enchants are entirely non-combative and therefore offer a wider and more diverse range of applications, while potent enchants offer combative capabilities with the durability and applicable use-number during combat adhering to tier of spell enchanted onto the weapon.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

    Warding:

Saeldur and his sparring partner, a nimble and short Mali’ker of a youthful deposition, stand atop a tower of marbled stone with crenelated outcroppings lining its sides protectively from any aberrant spells. The apprentice ‘Ker opposite to Saeldur begins to contort his fingers in a complex fashion, his already dark iris’ beginning to cast a vaguely ethereal hue of shrouded blackness as beads of sweat begin to sheen his forehead dully creased in concentration. As the eye of his opponent begins to twitch, three thin torrents of water would begin coalesce shortly before his frame, swirling idly around his figure as icy plums start to emanate condensation off their forms and begin solidifying into a single formidable spike of threatening ice facing the ancient Mali’aheral.

While the student dark elf was prepping his offensive spell and preparing to send the chunk of ice hurtling in his masters direction, the tall and resolute Saeldur would only have gripped his ivory staff more tightly within heavily scarred and eldritch hands. His icy visage would cast its own alien glow of a deep azure mottled by gray splotches, only a thin of trace of sweat lining his unconcerned brow. He’d brace for the oncoming spell by planting his long staff a few inches before him arched in a protective fashion with the butt end stabilized in the dirt, a disc-like distortion gaining presence and mass beginning to obscure the air around the top of his staff. He’d maintain a level gaze at his student with a small bit of contempt entering his scrutinizing features as the Mali’ker launches his spell forth with a flourish of his twitching hands, his unpracticed spell lobbing forwards towards Saeldur well-above his head, but threatening to soar past a crenelated outcropping protecting nearby buildings from their practice. Saeldur would quickly respond with a concerted effort of raising his staff upwards, letting out a practiced exhalation of breath as the spheric metal engraving topping his staff and casting the oblong distortion in the air would violently meet the spike of ice, a slight reverberation meeting the air as mana of the spell is violently torn asunder and cast back harmlessly to the Void.

“You will practice until you drop,” Saeldur would say to his pupil with disapproval apparent in his chiding tone, “Everyday – until you’re no longer a threat to those around you. Control is the Wizards greatest ally, oem’ii. Learn to wield your power lest you harm the innocent around you.” And with that, the tall and sticky Elf would leave his student to contemplate his words and train further.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

    Voidal Feeling (Teaching T4):

Saeldur would usher his apprentice down the stairs into the laborites below the Silver City well past dawn, avoiding the bustling nature of the learned scientists and engineers working within. Careful to avoid any distractions or upsetting of those conducting experiments, Saeldur would hastily lead the same youthful Mali’ker to his office, beckoning forwards to a desk of molten stone adorned by several beakers of foreign substances emanating an acrid scent into the air.

Saeldur would look to his student, gesturing onwards to the four glass-beakers encouragingly, “We’ve studied the most important spell to your fledging career as a Wizard in-depth now – Voidal Feeling. By reaching out with your stream of mana and directing it concertedly into a specific non-living object, you’ve been able to explore different properties of non-organic material in a nature necessary to forming a proper relationship to the void. You’ve learned how to forget your primal senses – your touch, smell, and taste – and beckon to the object before you to reveal its secrets. While we’ve primarily tested your skills on foreign metals and lesser enchantments, now it is time for you to begin discerning chemical properties waiting to be discovered by your newfound feeling senses. Return to me when you are able to discern the contents of all four of the beakers, and no sooner. Do not fail me,” And with that, he’d leave his student to contemplate the puzzle before him.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

I am personally of the mind that power-gaming is normally done by people who are unaware that they are doing so, so I would definitely PM them OOC’ly where I thought they could improve and where exactly they were over-stepping their bounds. We would then re-conduct the role-play so the person potentially power-gaming now has the necessary information to avoid doing it going forward. If it continues to be a problem, I think referring to a ST would be appropriate in order to figure out the proper ramifications and procedures going forwards to avoid said scenarios.

The Asul’ailer Talonnii traces it lineage back to the realm of Asulon, descending from Juliet (Rosaria) Sullas and Aranwe Lazul. As a result of their marriage, Celaena Lazul was born, and later married Arlanthir Asul’ailer, son of Faenir and Adriana. Celaena and Arlanthir both lived actively in Haelun’or for some time; Arlanthir working as Councilman while Celaena ran an apothecary and practiced medicine. As a result of the Haelun’or schism in Asulon, Celaena and Arlanthir were forced to split from the Silver State. While living in Malinor, they birthed their sons Ceruberr and Saeldur.

Ceruberr was the first of the family to return to the path of purity in Lin’everal, advancing to Arch-Mage of the Mages Guild and holding an active influence within the community both as a previous Maheral, enactor of the Talonnii Act, and current Maulaurir. After the destruction of Anthos, Ceruberr convinced his brother Saeldur to leave his long held position as Archanix of the Mages Guild in order to become a citizen of Haelun’or and help progress the family; both Ceruberr and Saeldur have resided as citizens of the State since, both having served as Archmage, Oracles of the Celestial Order, and Court Wizards for various noble Valah lineages.

While the small Talonnii has only ever actively boasted the two mal’onn, both Ceruberr and Saeldur have a well recorded and deeply intrenched past in substantial arcane events and the turnings of the realms, studying magics few of the descendants have ever wielded and attempting to utilize their resourcefulness and knowledge for the betterment of Arcas and the protection of their kin.

    Physical Traits & Beliefs:

    Spoiler

In terms of physical appearance, common traits include pure platinum colored hair accompanied with radiant green or icy blue coloured eyes. Asul’ailer also exhibit pure Mali’thill traits such as a tall and lithe frames accompanied by fair and pale skin. Their builds have developed over time from a slightly more muscular physique to a more nimble form due to their scholarly and magical pursuits.

The Asul’ailer family has always differed in logic from many of the other Talonnii in Haelun’or, leaning towards a liberal ideology and politic due their primary focus on arcanic study and greater realm wide events. Despite these traits they continue to hold Larihei and her teachings in the highest regard, and seek to further their own knowledge and progress in a variety of fields. As a result, many of the Asul’ailer line have taken a considerable interest in the arcane, alchemy, and politics. The Asul’ailer family strongly values arcanic balance, the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya and the protection of Haelun’or, and are not afraid to take action to defend those they hold in high regard.

    Family Tree:

    Final Family Tree.png

    Etymology:

    Spoiler

Asul’ailer, in Elven, directly translates in common to “Sun Wizard.” Ailer is an Elven Seed word meaning a powerful, exclusive brand of spellcaster, and with the Talonnii’s core directive of arcanic balance, the interpretation of light or the sun of a new day was added.

    -  ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON

    --

The Korvassan desert at twilight always both confused and comforted the youthful Mali’aheral; on the one hand, it offered the depths of solitude now rarely found within the Silver City so deeply entrenched in an ancient conflict and deific forces the undiscerning soldier could not factor or understand. On the other hand, the unsharp mind of the Sillumir simply could not fathom how the scorching heat of the day was vanquished by a nights sky and air that could freeze any hardened solider to the bone.

So it was with a shiver, either at the task set before him or from the deserts’ cool embrace, that a young Uradir almost reverently donned steel plate engraved in the fine silver vestiges that marked the rank of a Tahorren. With a long and thoughtful glance at the deadly and simple spear clutched between his deft fingertips, Talar’siol marched into the hellscape of the Korvassan desert prepared to meet a fate that at least he could anticipate and plan for: an honorable death, a soldiers’ death.

It is with both shame and regret I leave this letter unto you, the best of the Uradir. While I know forces beyond your control invaded Haelun’or and our Talonnii, I could no longer watch as our kin forsake the qualities that make them ‘thill, seduced by draconic power and knowledge that will foster the slavery and religious indoctrination of our people. I suspect I ride to my end, but know I do so with the comforting weight in my heart that one of our Talonnii remains capable of guiding our family out of this undeserving fate. May Larihei guide your path and actions, and your winds be swift.

  12. Saeldur reads the missive quietly, the ancient features of the Elf composed and serene. He reflects quietly to himself during meditation, “A bastion of true civilization, or a safe haven for these new religious zealots who seek a war. It’s not surprising the Kharajyr fell back into line of deific worship with such reverence in so little time, for it is in their nature to serve a God. I only hope the rest of the Mali’thill remain true to the integrity of Larihei and the teachings that independence and free-thinking logic always prevails over mindless adherence and servitude.”

  13. Major Change-Log:

    - Updated to have roll mechanics for forging the Oathbond.

    - Runes for each Scion Ideal.

    - Reworked greater melding so a spells potency in a circling ritual is based off the roll system.

    - Added Celestial Art.

    - Reworked to tie in to the relevant Breaching of the Veil Lore (Linked in credit) to be current with Moz Strizoma & the Vigil.
