*Stooping over, I lower my haversack to the ground...foraging through it for a scrap of parchment and a quill. After but a moment of searching the items sought are found and readied to receive the ink to which I lay my meticulous scrawl. With great care I write a note to the current Prince and Princess.* My Prince and Princess, I humbly seek employ in the great Capitol City of our Nation, Malinor. I would seek to lend my axe to laying waste to the old and dying trees of the area so their resources may be used to benefit our people. I would seek to replant saplings in their stead to grow and become strong so they may one day give support to our people as well. I have caught notice of your need for exactly these skills and so have lay quill to parchment to make my intention of accepting a position known to you and yours. If you have trouble finding myself to make your reply, I am often sleeping in the boughs of some tree, as I am quite poor and ill equipped at present and do not wish to starve myself by being too active. Please allow me to gain this employment so I may also gain a roof over my head and food in my belly. Thank you in advance for any consideration you may give to this man's request. In your service, Thaydn Wyndtalker *Quickly I scan the words I had written, checking them for error. Finding nothing to offend my eyes, I roll the scrap tightly and secure it with a bit of twine foraged from an interior boot pocket. With a kiss on the knot for good luck and a quick eye to the skies I drop the scroll into the application box.* "Ahh...well now that's done! Off to the trees for a nap I think!" *With this I walk leisurely away to find a tree to sleep in, whistling all the while.* -
Out-Of-Character Details Minecraft Account Name: joshbee How old are you?: 34 Time-Zone/Country of Residence: Central Time Zone, USA Do you have a good grip on English grammar and the English language?: Yes Have you had any previous experience in roleplaying?: Yes. I originally got my RP whistle wet by playing Dragonrealms. If you are unfamiliar with the game, it is basically a very in-depth RP enforced MUD that has been around for over a decade. I still play it occasionally. I also play WoW on an RP server. While I realize that doesn't necessarily mean much, I have been a part of actual RP guilds which planned and carried out RP events on a regular basis. Have you read and understood and agree to the rules?: Yes How did you hear about the Lord of the Craft?: I used Google to search for the best RP servers and your name was towards the top of the list. Link any previous applications you have made to the Lord of the Craft: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/68142-my-first-application/ Have you posted this application on Minecraft Forum? If not, post it here:http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-the-lord-of-the-craft-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r-100-unique-gameplay/!: Yes Definitions In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is: To me, role play is immersing yourself into another mindset. You have to literally think and act like someone who is not yourself. You get into their mind, figure out what makes them tick. You walk like them, talk like them...in short, for whatever time you have to dedicate at that moment, you ARE them. In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is: Allowing outside influence or knowledge which your character would have no access to, to change the way you play your character. In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is: Using an emote involving more than one person (yourself and 1 or more others) that forces your actions onto them, often without first achieving their permission. In-Character Details Character Name: Thaydn Wyndtalker Character Race: Elven (Wood-elf) Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary: Slowly coming back to reality you realize you had once again dozed off. As you shake your head and wipe the grogginess away, you see Thaydn gazing at you quizzically. "Are you ok, you appear to have fainted." Quickly you give Thaydn an affirmative nod and mumble so quietly as to be almost unintelligible, "Yes, yes...just dozed off for a minute is all...sorry bout that, sorry." Looking a bit perturbed, Thaydn says to you, "Well you asked the question now listen to the answer!" With a sheepish and somewhat lopsided grin you reply, "But of course...continue please!" With a last stern glare in your general direction, Thaydn once again begins the story of his life thus far. "Ah well, as much as I'm sure you'd love to hear tales of adventure and glory, I have nae much of that ilk to lay upon your ears. What I do have is the somewhat less than average tale of someone who is maybe a bit more than average!" "I have been told by those who remember my parents, they were from a small encampment of wood elves just a ways outside Elandrial in Malinor. As it happens, my father had gotten himself into a scuffle of some sort with a man of more importance than the likes of us. Now the results of this scuffle were to include the death of my father and the banishment of my mother. Luckily for all involved, my mother was carrying my own self inside the swell of her stomach and as us elven sort are only rarely born they had to let my father live as to be her protector." "So out into the wilds my parent's set themselves and they did alright from what I've been told by sympathetic parties. That is until the indelicate matter of my own self forcing it's way ruthlessly from the aforementioned swell of her stomach." "Anyways, to make a long story less long...that tragic day ended with the death of my mother and the struggle of my father to teach me all I need know." "Many years have passed since those days but most of them were fair uneventful. I have lived my life as a solitary ranger since and continue to do so at this moment." As the minutes rang out without another word from joshbee, I realized he must have told me all he was going to but I just had to ask..."Why are you here now Thaydn? All the years of self enforced exile and now you seek out companionship?" "Ahh...the answer to that question is simple my young friend. As I stated before, us elven are only so rarely born. It's time to be on about the business of a child of my own and I can hardly do that on my own. Also, I heard tell of a group of forest rangers of some type. I have given thought to tracking them down and joining their ranks." With that, Thaydn stood and tipped his hat in my direction and then walked out the door. I hope he finds what he is looking for... What are your characters ambitions?: To finally find someone to ease his loneliness and to find that special lass with which to father a child of his own. Please provide an in-game screenshot of your skin here: Is there anything else you would like to say about your character? Due to the style I have chosen to write my bio, I have neglected to state my appearance. Thaydn is a wood elf. His hair is a medium blonde and hangs to mid shoulder-blade. It is often worn tied back in a multitude of beaded braids. His skin is weathered and tanned to almost a dark bronze tone. His eyes a shade of brown so deep they seem a never ending pool. Covering his lower face is almost always a mask covering a set of wicked scars reaching up from each corer of the mouth up to mid cheek...forming a ghastly grin (cost of cheating at games of chance with morally bankrupt folks). Open-Response-Questions Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short. Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? Thaydn: "Well yes fine Sir dwarf, I would gaze upon your wares." dwarf: "Thank you sir, I have carried these items with me for many of a mile to peddle here at these gates to this fine city! Something for everyone I have!" Peering down upon the offered baubles, the merchant quickly extols the virtues of whichever meaningless trinket I happened to glance at. It is quickly obvious that the dwarf has nothing of use to me, nor anyone I can think of. Ahh well, It is a fine city and he did come all this way. Thaydn: "Sir dwarf, I admit to being only barely keeping the clang of coin in my pocket, however; as my own water skin has worn thin and begins to leak...I would make use of the worn cup you are peddling." dwarf: "AHH! Yes of course! An what a fine cup it tis! My own brother crafted it while still a lad! Fine craftsmanship, fine craftsmanship indeed! Oh an a bargain to boot! Only a few coin will have you with the means to hydrate once more!" With this the peddler reached into his worn haversack and pulled forth a scrap of butcher's paper and a bit of ribbon. With his stubby fingers he clumsily wrapped the cup and tied it, handing it to me with as silly a smile as I've seen. Reaching into my coin pouch, I quickly search around until I find a coin worth a bit more than the asking price and drop it in the dwarf's hand. While staring at me in bewilderment I quickly turn and disappear into the crowd needing no thanks for helping the poor peddler. You’re in the Cloud Sanctuary late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. The only present monk is fast asleep, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? A racket awakens me from my dark nook at the Cloud Sanctuary where I tried to catch up on a bit of rest during my journey. Sleepily I stand and stretch, yawning as if there were not enough air in the world to quench my need. I stumble out of my nook to find the source of the commotion only to find a large Orcish thug giving grief to a short, thick little dwarven man. As the only monk is asleep and doesn't seem to be able to be roused from his slumber and no other "official" sort seeming to be in presence, I step forward... "Ahh Sir orc, if you favor the very act of continuing to draw breath, I would step a few paces back from our little friend there." With a chuckle, the brutish orc shoves the dwarf to the side and steps menacingly in my direction with a gravely voice and dead eyes, he speaks..."And just what are YOU going to do abou...". Only a piece of a moment later, still in mid-sentence, the orc looks down with shock to find an arrow he never even saw fired skewering his esophagus and literally slick with his blood. As the massive body falls thudding upon the floor of the Temple I come to the quick realization that my arrow was not the only projectile protruding from the corpse...maybe didn't even strike the killing blow. Right between the eyes of the dead orc was the business end of a crossbow bolt, the matching hole in the back of the skull still showed a bit of the bolt's fletching. With a hearty, full-throated bellow, the dwarf bowed at the hip and did some silly little thing with his arms as he dipped. Standing once again erect he thanked me and turned, laughing still as he walked away. All of the commotion finally did cause our sleeping monk to arise but once he gazed upon the big, stinking meat pile of an orc lying skewered on the floor before him...he promptly feinted and collapsed in a pile returning to the sleep that had just so recently been interrupted. Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenseless man. What does your character do?: "Here sir, let me help you up." Reaching down I help the old man regain his feet beneath him and hold him until he his able to gain his balance. I then walk him to the side where there is a boulder he his able to lean against. "You have dropped your coin bag sir, let me get it for you." With a smile and nod of appreciation the elderly patron watches me as I return to his spilled purse and begin to harvest his spilled bounty. Seeing as how his bag was torn I quickly reach into my sporran and grab a scrap of rabbit pelt scavenged from a worn pair of trousers. With a sharp bit of stone and a bit of twine, I quickly make a passable coin purse and place the coins within. As I attempt to return the man's coin to him, he merely waves his hand and says to me, "A good deed done for a good deed did" and turns to wobble away. Finding the reward for such a minor deed to be far more than I deserved, I quickly caught up with my elderly friend and accompanied him on his journey to Malinor...my home.
