Selling Gold And Iron
CommunistSpy replied to CommunistSpy's topic in Elysium and Kalos Roleplay Archive
*Markin walks up and posts a note to the Oren board* "I will ignore the first offer, as it was cleary in jest. I will accept the second offer of 200 minas for 4 gold ingots. As for the third, I would ask for 130 minas for the two gold and one iron. Send a bird to me, I will be available shortly, and we may meet up." -
Posters are pinned up around Oren. They read: Selling 25 gold and 25 iron ingots. Looking for minas. 50 minas per gold ingot, 30 minas per iron ingot. Send a bird to Markin [Patriotic_fool] or post up here, with your offer of minas per ingot. ((I am currently on for the next 9 hours, so please bird me if you're interested))

-snip- ((It's a name, I rather see recruits than posts about our name. It's the Ravens, I'm not changing it, any suggestion to do that is ridiculous AND spam. Please refrain from bringing up our name in the future, if you don't like it then that's fine. Keep your opinion to yourself. And our organizations have very little in common..))
-
((Aside from the name, the goals of the 'Raven' groups are different, as is the requirements, etc. Let's stop the OOC, it's spamming up the thread))
-
((.. White Ravens? I honestly made this up without having known about any other organizations..))

Disclaimer: the Ravens are not inspired nor affiliated with the White Ravens You are attending to daily life, walking down a loose cobble road. You hear a crowing in the distance, and slowly it gets louder. You look up and see a Raven perched in a tree above you. It looks inquisitively down upon you, then flies down and lands on your shoulder. You notice a small pouch attached to its leg, and you discover a message - addressed to you! You take the message and the bird waits. You find an empty scroll of paper and assume a message is to be sent back with the raven. The message reads: "Justice This above all is what the Ravens seek. The raven is capable of surviving by itself, but can work together in larger groups. It can remain hidden, or continue its work in broad daylight. The Ravens are a unified group with members consisting of different races, genders, and creeds. There is one thing we have in common - our unhinged and extreme desire for Justice. We live in a world where slavery, torture, murder, thievery, and kidnapping are as common as sand on the beach. If Justice were enforced by 'the law', then those who are Good would not have to worry, but that is not the case. The Law allows guilty men to walk free and escape what they deserve, and sometimes it even allows evil men to work within the legal system and profit at the suffering of others. The Ravens are not hindered by the law. We do not operate during day - the Raven's Wing shelters us and allows us to accomplish our goals in secret. So ask yourself - do you wish to make a difference? Do you wish to be a true Force for Good? Do you seek Justice, no matter the cost? If so, you belong among the Ravens. Upon joining, you will learn the Edicts of the Raven." The magnificent bird flutters its wings and flies away, your message (if any) sent back to wherever, or whomever, it serves. The Ravens Ranks: The Overseer: The Overseer is the leader of the Ravens. He or she guides the overall actions and movements of the group, keeping private and sending commands from afar. The Overseer usually has a successor planned out in advance, should he or she experience an unexpected demise. The Hunters: The Hunters are the Ravens who specialize in scouting and assassinating missions. They stalk their prey, waiting for an opportune moment to strike and bring down Justice. Many live a solitary life filled with wandering, and tend to be alone for long periods of time in between orders. The Enforcers: The main branch of the Ravens, the Enforcers serve as builders, craftsmen, blacksmiths, and soldiers. They participate in defending the Raven home and going on large-scale raids, but also have the tasks of gathering supplies and recruiting others to the fold. They are essentially adaptable to different situations that rise up, but fail to become experts in any one field. The Acolytes: Composed of non-combatants, the Acolytes are the branch of the Ravens who specialize in construction, farming, and other peaceful activities. They share the ideals of the Ravens, but do not (or are unable) to harm others. They serve in other ways, such as keeping the Raven complex secure and running, cooking meals, inventing items, writing and copying books, recruiting, and the like. The Lurkers: One of the more daring and dangerous 'ranks', the Lurkers are Raven members who do not live in the Communal Raven complex, or near it. They may roam the world or be part of another organization. One important aspect of the Lurkers is that they serve as the spies of the Ravens. By having their normal lives proceed as normal, they can lay in hiding for many years until they receive an order or task. They also collect information on targets, organizations, potential allies and enemies, and report it to the main Raven force. An esteemed task would be for a Lurker to sabotage an enemy operation by joining and 'assisting them'. For obvious reasons, this is the most dangerous rank. Of course, Lurkers may simply be those who don't wish to abandon their current lives, but wish to help anyway. The Lost Ones: A 'lost one' is an individual who is under investigation or scrutiny by the Ravens. The individual is a target for recruitment, and simply needs to be shown the 'light'. Many Ravens wish to join because they want action, and a Lost One is shown the path that fulfills their desire to bring Justice to those who have escaped it, or to help those who have been ignored. Other Information -The Ravens prefer to keep their identities secret, and only a few recruiters will announce they are members. This doesn't mean they are completely secret, but only the tip of the iceberg is shown, so to speak. -Please apply using the form below. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

A large "x" is scrawn over the shoddy first proposal, likely due to the bad grammar and terrible penmanship. To the second, another note is pinned right below it. It reads: I am interested in purchasing the slave. Will 4 diamonds suffice?
-
((I apologize, fixing))

A clean piece of parchment is pinned to the bulletin board in the city of New Oren, home of the nation of Oren. It reads: "Looking to buy a slave. Will pay up to 25 gold ingots, depending on the quality. ~M"

I like the compromise as well, it seems to have pleased all parties. I would like to see a "transfer" of sorts - everyone moving to the next island. I think 2 islands that require fast travel might cut the players in half. It might be nice if we could access it via minecraft boat, however.

Feedback And Suggestions For The Next Island
CommunistSpy replied to Alan's topic in Thales and the Fringe Roleplay Archive
I have to say, I completely agree as far as the mining situation goes. I thought the mines were randomly generated, but it turns out people just mined the SNOT out of the map. It's ridiculous. If we don't get a new map, the entire island will collapse due to all the holes in it. I also wish I could mine for other minerals. All you can find mining is iron and coal, and that gets boring very quickly. It would be nice to have lava caves as well, I do miss lava. -
Out-Of-Character Details Minecraft Account Name: Patriotic_Fool How old are you?: 17 Time-Zone/Country of Residence: GMT -8:00 (US Pacific Time) Do you have a good grip on English grammar and the English language?: I hope so, or my 12 years of schooling will have been in vain. Have you had any previous experience in roleplaying?: Yes. I have done roleplaying for many years. It began with Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne. I would play roleplay based games, such as SOTDRP, which involved on roleplay. I also spent 2 years on another roleplay based server, Massivecraft. Recently, I've gotten involved in forum roleplay games. Have you read and understood and agree to the rules?: Yes. I checked the FAQ and a few guides, hopefully I won't do something silly like post about a serial killer mage who lost his family to orcs. How did you hear about the Lord of the Craft?: My friend, Semperosa, introduced me to the server and recommended it. Link any previous applications you have made to the Lord of the Craft: N/A Have you posted this application on Minecraft Forum? If not, post it here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-the-lord-of-the-craft-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r-100-unique-gameplay/! : I'll post this finished application there when I complete it! Definitions In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is: Taking on a role of someone or something and acting upon it. The role may be fiction or nonfiction, but I believe good roleplaying involves a creative mind and knowledge of the roleplay subject. In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is: Meta-gaming is when a person takes out of context (or out of character, OOC) information and uses it in an in-game situation. An example would be if I was killed by a character, and I harbored ill-will towards the player who roleplayed the character. Later on, I had a new character. Instead of roleplaying, I used my meta feelings towards the player and my in-game actions followed that. In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is: Power-emoting is making an in-game action absolute, without giving another player the chance to react. Example: "Patriotic fool slashes at PoorVictim and kills him in one cleave." I did not give PoorVictim a chance to react. A proper way to do this would be, "Patriotic fool lifts his axe and prepares to swing at PoorVictim." In-Character Details Character Name: Markin Aronokath Character Race: Human Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary: Markin Aronokath was born in Arethor. The bustling human capital must have seen hundreds of children born every day. It cannot be said that Markin Aronokath was special. His mother, who died of childbirth, was the wife of an ordinary peasant farmer. His father worked hard to raise him, and Markin was out in the fields helping out as soon as he could. The two of them lived a sustainable, albeit poor and unglorious life. Markin dreamed of adventure, as many other young boys did. His father would always shrug off his remarks and tell him that he should accept his fate; he would never be greater than a peasant. Markin never stopped dreaming. When he stabbed his pitchfork into a bale of hay, he imagined impaling a fierce orc and saving the day. When he chased off a stray dog from attacking his livestock, he saw himself toe-to-toe with an evil pigman. His fantasies came true, but not in the way that he had hoped. Life changed when the dwarves came. He was not educated, and certainly not well-versed in the matters of the day. The dwarven invasion caught everyone by surprise. A crude sword and shield were thrust in his hands, and he found himself on the front lines of battle. Every able-bodied man was needed, regardless of previous experience. Markin quickly found out that battle was not as glorious as he had imagined. Humans were cut down all around him, and ill-trained Markin was no match for the experienced dwarven warriors. He dropped his weapons and fled as those around him were killed. He meandered through the fields and forests, and kept walking. He lost his shield in the fight, but managed to keep ahold of his sword. Unfortunately, Markin was not a strong willed man. The horrors of battle overcame him, and he spent many years living in isolation in the forests. Scavenging off of what he could find, he survived. His mind, however, did not. Locals from around the area know of him, but to them, he is merely a crazy old man. Markin now keeps to himself in the woods, detached from society. What are your characters ambitions?: Markin wishes to live out his days in the forest. He hasn't managed to rid himself of the ghosts of his past, and years of isolation certainly did not help. He has no hopes, and anyone attempting to talk to him cannot understand his crazed mumblings. Please provide an in-game screenshot of your skin here: Is there anything else you would like to say about your character: I know about VAs. I'm not applying to be a thief, serial killer, or anything else along those lines. As far as I know, being an insane old man is okay. Now, I might apply for something else in the future, but one step at a time :P. I hope everything is satisfactory. Open-Response-Questions Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short. (I apologize for any grammatical or first/third person errors. I did my best to remain in first person, but I admit that I am used to writing in third person.) Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? I stop walking and see a dwarf shopkeeper in a run-down market stall. The dwarf calls out and beckons me to come over. Curious, I walk up to the shopkeeper. "Ay, what can I get for ya?" I stand there, in silence. "Hm. Ya look like you could use some new clothes. Get them rags off of ya." The dwarf rummaged through a box and pulled out a weathered, but clean shirt. "All yours for 10 minas!" I finally break the awkward silence. "Y..y...you.... .. m..monster!!" The dwarf fumbled, obviously shocked by my response. "Pardon me?" "You MONSTER!.. ... YOU... .. you DID THIS!!" Before the dwarf could muster a reply, I storm off, mumbling to myself. You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? A dwarf and an Orc appear to be having an altercation. I walk up to them. "Please.." cries the dwarf, "let's not get ahead of ourselves!" The Orc demands that the dwarf fork over 50 minas, a sum that the dwarf obviously cannot muster. "YOU!", exclaims the Orc, "KEEP 'WALKIN OR THEREZ GONNA BE TROUBLE, YA HEAR?" "I.. I.. s.. sorry!" My feeble reply is met with laughter from the Orc. I leave, but stop and watch the situation progress from afar. As the Orc becomes increasingly impatient, the orc begins to use force. I watch as a few punches turn to a full-scale beating, and a smile creeps on my lips. While I finds solace in watching the dwarf being hurt, simultaneously I remember the horrors of violence, and I cannot prevent myself from vomitting on the ground. I stumble away as the cries of the dwarf get louder, and louder. Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?: I see an old man fall before me. A long beard and weathered visage look up at me, not unlike my own. "E...ex..Excus--". Before he could get out a word, the man collapses. A sack falls onto the ground and coins spill around him. Do I take them or do I help? "Please sir..", mutters the old man, "These are for my nephew. This is all I have.. don't take them. I beg of you!". I pause for a moment, and survey the situation. I gulp and attempt to make a clear response. "I..it is alright. Here.. let me help you." I help the man up and gather the coins with trembling fingers. I hand them to the man and look into his faded blue eyes. We share much in common. Were I the helpless man on the ground, I would hope that a stranger would show me the same kindness. "Thank you, kind sir." The old man smiles as he walks away, and I muse on the whole event. I certainly wouldn't show the same courtesy to a dwarf, but the man touched me in a way I hadn't felt in a long time. I walk off towards my destination, and wipe a tear from my eye.
