Out-Of-Character Information Please fill out the following questions as accurately as possible, and ensure the essential details are accurate. Minecraft Account Name: Henry_Knox How old are you?: 22 Time-Zone: EST Have you read, understood and agreed to the rules?: Yes What previous experience have you had in role-playing?: I am a writer who writes medieval/fantasy and I have role-played in other servers that don't care for the art. How did you hear about the the Lord of the Craft?: Looking for the best and mature server landed me here Link any applications that you have previously made for the server: Have you posted this application on the Minecraft Forum? If not, then please do so (link above): Have you read the Elven lore, and shall you ensure you make use of it and follow it in your biography?: Yes Definitions In your own words define the following terms. Do not take any definitions from elsewhere!: Role-playing: Role-playing to me is entering worlds that you would never be able to immerse yourself in, then taking it a step further by creating you own persona to interact within the new world. The ability to leave your mark on history and staying true to your character is how the experience becomes more enjoyable for yourself, but more importantly shows respect and creates a better enriched world for everyone else. Meta-gaming: Meta-gaming is ruinous to role-playing because it blurs the line of outside world information and the actual knowledge that your character in the world would know. By bringing attributes or foresight from the outside world that your character could never possibly achieve as a character in his/her own world is the essence of meta-gaming. Power-emoting: Forcing actions or results onto other characters without their participation or consent would be power-emoting. It is inconsistent with the rest of the world by falsifying events and disrupting the stories of everyone else. In-Character Information: Complete the following biography on your character: Full Name:Gustavus Knox Current Age:134 Sub-race (if any): Wood Elf and Forest Dwarf Past / History (include childhood, major-events, etc. 2+ paragraphs long): Gustavus Knox was born out of a relationship that formed one winter that challenged everyones will to live in the harsh lands of the Wilds. Lirrame was a beautiful young wood elf who never felt satisfied among the politics of Malinor, yet longed for something more then her home in the peaceful natural trees that surrounded the nation. She was always more in tune with the huntress that laid deep within her being. Lirrame was the best archer any of her contemporaries knew as well as the best hunter. She would disappear for months at a time and bring back all the meat she could carry all while she surviving on nothing more than the crude bread she baked. It was during one of this winter trips that she headed deeper than she had before into the Wild, without a sound she was attacked by a group of bandits. As she drew her bow prepared to fight an unlikely hero emerged from the shadows. The man who emerged carried with him a hefty battle axe which he lifted above his head as he sprinted towards the assailants. As the bandits were caught off guard by the small figure charging towards them, Lirrame shot two of them down while the axemen from the woods hacked down the remaining three. Lirrame fell to her knees exhausted by the encounter looking up to see that the man was in fact a young Bortu with a clean cut beard and his red hair tied into a knot. The Dwarf now cleaning the blood of the fallen off his face and cleaning his axe now stood and began walking towards the elvish woman he risked his life for. Lirrame was further surprised when she noticed this dwarf stood closer to five feet tall and was.....handsome. Aldophus was his name and although being a forest dwarf, his reason for being so far from the high halls of Kal'Azgoth was a tale of pain and sorrow. His father and his fathers were all lower servants to the Grand Councilor Karl Frostbeard in times long past but were ousted to the forests as the more political of their enemies climbed the ranks of the army and pushed them out of favor. Aldophus lived in a small cave built from his experiences as both a lumberjack and his inherent ability to mine. Unlike the rest of his kind, he had no close relatives and became a sort of self exiled dwarf deep in the heart of the Wilds. Walking towards each other they were both stricken ill as the butterflies became to tumble within them, yet they both pushed through the awkard exchange and decided they should bunk down together as the winter was growing colder and darker every day. This turned out to be a turning point in both of their lives as Lirrame no longer missed the boring woods of her home and Aldophus enjoyed the company of the woman he had grown to love. As their third winter came around, Lirrame gave birth to a boy, he was named Gustavus Knox. His first years were kept inside the safe walls of their warm comfortable cave as his mother and father would fight to protect their home from invaders. This is the atmosphere that Gustavus came to know as a young boy and man. He acquired his mothers knowledge of archery, hunting, and elementary baking of wheat when it could be found. Aldophus taught his boy the many uses of an axe, but also the importance of knowing when to cut trees and when to cut down enemies. Gustavus had grown beautifully into the grace and well spoken charm of his mother while maintaining the situational insight and strength of his father. Upon becoming a man he had the size of human, build of a dwarf and eyes of an elf. Years went by in relative peace until a large gang had finally decided that they wanted the cave and the family removed from lands they deemed "their own". It was here that the family fought bravely against a raiding party of 15 depraved bandits with one exceptional effort....and one exceptional loss. Gustavus shined in the glory of battle and felt the excitement of his father screaming, charging the mass of enemies while he and his mother shot at them from above. It was here that Gustavus saw bandits sneaking behind his father and jumped down despite his mothers fear. Never one for a human sword, he pulled out the axe his father made him and fought this second wave trying to reach his father. It was during this battle that Gustavus shared the fate of many dwarves and fell in battle. He was laid to rest with the armor he crafted himself and vines from the tree that shielded the entrance to their cave. Days had past in silence when his mother broke from her mourning to tell Gustavus of what he must do, and the challenges he would face. She warned him how her only chance to survive now was to go back to her lands skirting the nation of Malinor. It was now that she explained to Gustavus that leaving everyone behind to live in the Wilds was not the way to live life. She encouraged him to find his place in the world but also did not hide from the fact that this would not be so simple for a man of his stature. The Elves may look down quizzically at his well kept but still visibly red beard, Dwarves may look down on the height and soft appearance of his elvish roots, and even the Northerners would be able to see he is not one of them. With this in his mind his mother set off for her long lost home leaving Gustavus with the blessing of success and little else. As Gustavus ate his last meal in his now deserted home he thought deeply about where he should go. He dusted out the flames in the cave that once filled with light and love, only to become barren rock in the Wilds, and set off down the road..... Ambitions for the Future: To become accepted by Elves or Dwarves, he is looking for a home that can best use his services as a survivor and hunter. Along this path he understands that this life is a journey and he becomes more and more curious at the way people behave and react. Personality: Despite the loss of his father in battle he never forgot his many life lessons in patience when approaching any situation. He has the ability to lighten up any conversation with the serenity of his mother but also make well thought out decisions like his father. Having engaged very few outside of his family he is initally shy but he wants nothing more than to see the good in the people he encounters. Positive and full of hope but the Dwarf in him also renders him able to strike down those who threaten him or the friends he hopes to gain. Skills: Archery, Hunting, Axe (Combat and Lumberjack) Rudimentary baking of bread only Appearance (this must include an in-game screenshot of your skin): Any other details you wish to share about your character: Hopes to become accepted among a group of people who are understanding and willing to treat him as one of their own, if not he will wander the forests and try to earn the respect of every race through his martial prowess and intelligence. Tendency to over think events or items that he may know little to nothing about just to see if it could help in any way figure out his life's purpose. Open-Response-Questions Each question in this section must be answered with a minimum of one paragraph which must describe the event in full. Please be as descriptive as possible and do not break character or lore at any point. ____ 1. As you walk through the deep forests you hear the sound of whispering and snickering. Upon inspection you realize that a group of older elves are mocking a small elven child. How do you react? Answer: It was early in the morning as I walked down the dusty trail that coiled through the forest. As I was walking I came across a scene where a small elven child was encircled by elves much older and who ridiculed the poor child mercilessly. This being my first encounter with full blooded elves I kneeled down in the bushes not letting my presence be known and I watched. Upon seeing the incessant mocking of the younger elf, I decided that this is not what the elvish blood through my veins would urge me to do. Aware that I knew nothing of the situation I crept away from the bushes until I could no longer hear the voices. The experince taught me not to jump to any conclusions but to also not abandon my fathers principles of reflection as I shouldered on through the forest. 2. Whilst wandering through the Elven forests you come across a frail old man with a walking stick. He collapses in front of you, falling to the ground with a sharp thud. Out of his pocket falls a small pouch of gold coins, which hits the ground and splits open spreading coins across the pathway. The man lies there, defenseless - what do you do? Answer: In search of my dinner I thought I heard the sound of a pig collapsing to the ground so I hurried to the site. Much to my surprise it was an old elvish man who had fallen and seemed like he could use some help. I help the men up and gather his belongings all the while he stares at me unsure of my intentions. Finally, I decide to break the silence as we scavenge the ground picking up his gold coins. "These are pretty nice coins" I said nervously as I had never had much need for currency. The older Elf could perhaps sense my benevolence as he went from a face of suspicion to a somewhat calm expression as he replied with a short chuckle "You think so? you probably want some for helping me I'm sure." I was unsure what he meant as my mind was still longing for some beast to provide me with my food so I replied "If you can recall the last animal you saw I would certainly appreciate the direction it went". The old man smiles. Perhaps his long centuries on this planet had taught him something I could not possibly comprehend but he pointed to the woods east of us and started hobbling down the trail without a proper good bye. 3. Whilst traversing the Elven Woodlands, you come across a small clearing in which a colored carriage sits. A trader stands outside of it and calls you over, telling you of his wares. He points out that his carriage sells just about everything, and that he's willing for you to haggle for a price. What does your character do? (Please include:- item, haggling for prices and the discussion involved). Answer: "I could use some arrows if you got them sir." "I can sell you 64 for 10 pieces of gold." I stood there for a second pretending to contemplate the deal but now understood the paranoia of the old men as I helped gather his coins spread on the ground. Those coins were the main trading item of those not from the Wilds.... "How many arrows for 4 stacks of leather?" The man stares at me as if I were a beast from the forest! Finally after a pause..."You know today you are in luck as I plan on heading to a place were leather is highly sought out!" The man grows with excitement. "I can give you 24 arrows for those 4 stack of leather, what do you say?" I don't quite understand how this money operates or how important arrows are to the man, but I am well aware that with 24 arrows I can catch and make 24 meals and if I'm lucky some leather along the way..."You got a deal sir" I pull out the leather as he pulls some arrows out of his carriage, I hand him the leather as he uses his other hand to give me the arrows. Almost immediately he sees another figure emerge from the woods and begins his advertising all over. I simply smile and carry on my way ready to catch my own food and leather. If I get lucky hopefully I too can acquire some of those gold coins along the way.
