  1. Stay strong! I hope some positive change comes from this! Down with the disabled voidal user.

    Spoiler

Personally I think its insane (outside of Voidstalking) to say they're so weak they can't wield most weapons (and armor tbh), instead of just giving them a strength rating like everything else has. Everyone knows an Orc is stronger than a human (generally speaking) so why not say something like voidal users have goblin or halfling strength for example or something. The way I see it, the limitations on magic users are a product of lazy moderation and lack of interest in proper moderation. Instead of just regulating the rules, they'd rather entirely cast them out to save themselves time, which I can understand, but it is absolutely detrimental to the fantasy world. As a whole the focus on rules and redlines is a killer to all story generally speaking and creates an environment centered around min maxing.

[!] A sudden burst of energy shoots from below Hohkmat, funneling through every crack and crevice, sneaking over the walls and slithering through the gates. Across the lands upon closer inspection came a horde of letters, peeling off into all manner of direction, darkening the sky as they frantically reached for their recipients.

It is with a heavy heart that I renounce my position as Magister of Hohkmat on this day.

Circumstances not of my own choosing pull me from this realm.

I am called to a higher purpose, that which you all know well.

The Voids call tearing my consciousness from this reality

I have meditated on these callings for centuries, but never have they been this strong, unwavering and relentless in my mind.

I have not been able to serve you as the Void intended, and for that I am sorry. Upon each day I smile as I see the accomplishments of our people, I can only hope Hohkmat lives on for many centuries to come as the first of an Empire of the Void.

I must admit to you all, it is with shame that I am not able to stand with you all in this coming victory, but I ask you all to cast free the doubt from your mind, let wild the void within your grasp and let it flow through you as it was meant to be.

With the Void as your tool, no path can go unpaved.

How primitive it is to scar a follower of the void to decipher superiority

    We are above such barbarism.

The one whose mind speaks with the wisdom of the people should lead them

Where do we find ourselves if we allow our system to favor warmongers and thugs?

We get uncultured swine, the likes of which the void should never be trusted with.

What we want is a just unification of the Void's people, a one mind that serves to better itself as an entity for the good of the void and its people, rather than this short sighted bickering the likes of which we should only expect from animals.

We can be better than this, we are better than this. I ask of you the people, would do you not embrace the Void wholeheartedly? Do you not believe it is the key to our salvation?

Were we to put our faith in the Void, trusting those beside us to stand with us against the dark. Then would we truly know greatness, then would we truly know prosperity.

I ask that you do not allow yourself to be misled by the bickering of lessers

Do not allow the darkness within you

    Stand united against this barbarism

Favor the book before the sword

It is together we can form an unbreakable brotherhood

It is only together that we might glimpse at greatness.

People of Aevos, farmers and philosophers alike, I come before you as a humble servant, with the void as my tool. I write this message today in hopes that it finds you well, in order to ask for your patience.

I am a very busy man and I have been for many centuries now, but it is my dedication and commitment to my craft and people that continue to beckon me forth to havens of knowledge such as Hohkmat, despite my lack of presence in many cases. It is my intention to nurture a small sect of our reality within my own district, to that of a beacon of light for all who would wish their reality malleable. . . To all that would wish to sculpt the realm in their image. A place where creativity seeps from the very walls of the establishment, the inspiration so real it bursts forth into reality in the form of magical flora and fauna.

This is the reality I wish to procure within my district, but it is not possible without your assistance. No matter the strength of any singular mage, it is unity that creates true greatness, standing side by side with someone like minded and trusting, knowing if the worst were to occur, they would be by your side standing with you against the dark. This is the strength I require from you all, this is the environment I wish to nurture. . . But I can only do it with your help. Assist me in ushering in this age of greatness with the void as our tool and your names shall be written in the history books, immortalized forever as those who walked the path uncharted, leading the way for future generations to flourish, enriched by our accomplishments.

Allow me time and I shall give you greatness

I could potentially make it so that an Eidola could make their own Vessel, though part of why I wrote it so that a Mystic is required is to encourage more interaction between Eidola and Mystics.  Eidola should have more of a reason to want to stick around to their creators/community instead of just disappearing off on their own entirely.

The limit in having spare bodies is also intended as a means of discouraging wreckless CRP behavior.  In the past, Eidola have really only existed as a means of being a weapon and tool for soul-collecting, or standing in as powerful weapons for conflict.  Get killed?  No biggie, I can just respawn at my menhir hidden behind 5 locked doors and a hidden redstone one and try again.

Not pointing any fingers with that scenario, of course, but there definitely should be some more punishment for dying.  If an Eidola could make their bodies then... what RP interaction comes from it, if they can just RP making one by themselves?  I'd prefer to not have soul fragments be required, since that also encourages more murder-hobo antics (I know that new augment is made, but I severely despise lore requiring players to harm another for any mechanical gain--it's like a homework assignment, gets tedious and RP is just motivated to get the shiny lore thing and dip without developing much of a narrative)

Depending on whether or not this piece is accepted and implemented, I was considering coming up with more augments for paleknights to give them room to develop their own aesthetics or have unique flavor added to their RP--soul fragments could be considered more for these.  But this would be at the bottom of my list for things to do right now

You make a lot of good points here, I suppose I'm just cynical based upon past experiences as to the slog it can be to match up timezones and get people around specifically to do something for someone else solely, and I've seen this used as a trade tactic for people to get things they want. Regardless I'm willing to support it and give it a try in hopes it works out better, with the caveat that you'd be willing to alter it again later down the line if reality shows it's not working out!

Maybe the Eidola could sculpt the body from Menhir and then the Mystic could perform a ritual to bind it, requiring both of them. This way they both play a part. I quite like the idea of Eidola being stonemasons in a sort, and I think it makes sense for them to do the labor, but I also understand it not carrying the same weight if it was entirely up to the Eidola to make.

  8. I like most of these changes, especially the mental ones, though I will admit I really really dislike the idea of requiring someone else to have their body remade. Although it might seem to make sense, it's absolutely going to suck to have to deal with waiting on someone else, and such for the mystic to have to commit continually to recreating bodies. I'd propose the Eidola themselves have to commit to making future bodies before their demise, akin to the Animii CA, and maybe a Soul fragment cost for this would be suitable to finalize the body as suitable to be housed in in future. I feel like there's not enough good uses for Soul frags at the moment and I'd love to see some more use for it.

On the topic of Palelords, I think they're rare enough, have suitable enough risks, and are hard enough to create that they're fine for now, though maybe down the line if there's too many active or they're being blatantly abused, I can definitely see something being required to adjust this.

Overall thank you for your efforts!

Sorry I'm hijacking this one cause I wanna answer and I have a Matta related answer! For me the golden ages were when Rocky was ET Lead, he had some of the coolest event lines I've ever been apart of with some of the most in depth story. Very very cool times, I miss those days heavily, always thought his creativity was wasted on Moderation.

It has been so long that my memory of my time in the Mages Guild is faint. Cataris spent a lot of his time far from the guild tower and in the deep north operating against the Undead and at one point leading an army to fight them (There's actually a video of this on youtube I once found). He also spent some time with the Ascended near the Dwarf kingdom of Urguan(?), I can't quite recall the exact name.

I do remember in the later days when Cataris' close friend was secretly working with the Undead and had convinced Cataris to allow him into the Mages Guild tower, which was forbidden for anyone but a member of the guild. Cataris did so and was betrayed by this friend. From memory it was this sneaking into the tower that caused Cataris to lose the favour of the guild and was thrown out.

It was shortly after that Cataris was murdered and then resurrected by the Undead as the first Lich. Unless things had changed he was the only Undead to survive the collapse of Aegis and make it to Asulon where he spent a lot of time in hiding or hunting down other magicians out of spite for his dismissal in the guild. He eventually died lonely, miserable and with an insignificant death to a lesser magician skilled in illusion magic.

Edit: A memorable event was some players had created a cult and approached Cataris, worshipping him as the last living power of Iblees' magic left on Asulon. They eventually resurrected a giant and Cataris and this cult attacked an elven city with it

Fascinating, I appreciate you sharing! I don't believe the wiki even states how your fall to the dark came about, only that it happened after a disagreement with the guild, making Cataris look like far more of a bad guy than it seems in reality he was. These little intricacies always fascinate me about stories before my time, there's always so much more nuance than is written for the history books. I appreciate you sharing very much and wish you all the best. The offer to welcome your return is always open!

  11. Good to see you return! As a now long running leader of The Mages Guild, I thought I recognized your name! The history books (AKA the wiki) only usually tell one side of the story. I'd love to hear more about your original days in the guild, alongside the Cataris Treachery! Alongside any golden days of powerful magical events or creations that stick in your mind!

P.S You're always welcome back if you ever wanna RP again, would be good to have another Aussie around.

Prism would be perfect if I didn't have to install java 17 (Java will do everything but install java 17).

Something I actually love about Prism is you can just toggle between with Java version you wanna use once you've got both on your PC. So when I launch up an older MC version it'll be like "Oop, you ain't got the right java" and you can just go into the settings, under a java tab, auto detect all versions on your pc, and quick swap like THAT, love it!

What focus-area of the Moderation Team interests you the most?

    Server Moderation / Forum Moderation

Why have you decided to apply for the Moderation Team?

I wanna spend some more time on LOTC with the new map launching and I figure I may as well lend a hand, especially as an off-peak player, there's historically been a lack of staff activity, particularly in moderation during this time, and I'd like to help remedy that. Always been a junky for stats, so modreq numbers make my brain happy, I've a pretty vast knowledge of the server, despite perhaps being a little outdated after a long break, and I've probably nearing five years of experience on staff here.

What can you offer to the team?

As I touched on a little above, I've spent quite a significant amount of time on staff, much of which was in moderation. I've been Mod Manager, Mod Trainer, World Team Trainer, Community Team, Wiki Team, Media Team Lead. I've lead a lot of these staff teams in one way or another as a senior+ member of the team and I've no issues stepping up to the plate to handle whatever is going on.

I think a uniquely moderation based aspect of joining staff is the unfortunate downside that inherently you're deciding who wins and loses in a lot of situations, which often can make you quite a divisive figure on the server whether you're biased or not. I think a lot of players aren't aware of this factor, and with that aren't prepared to be disliked purely for doing the job. This is something I'm more than accustomed to, and won't have any issues dealing with on the team.

Lastly as I also touched on above, off-peak timezones are often problematic for LOTC as we lack a lot of activity during these times. While there can't always be a member of every team online, having someone experienced on the server with a staff tag able to best direct anyone online with anything they may need is a huge boon for the server, and I think that's a large part of why I enjoy doing the job personally.

If you were the Mod Admin, what would you change about the server?

While I can't personally speak on the current state of the inner workings of the team, I think historically a massive issue I've experienced with moderation and all staff teams on LOTC in general is the concept of improper abuse prevention via permission restrictions rather than simply punishing those who abuse the given tools. It makes sense why this happens because it's tiresome to clean the abuse of others, especially after long periods on staff, and of course in some cases it is better to remove permissions, this isn't a blanket rule. With that said, I think with regularly scheduled log checks and strict guidelines this can be combated easily by the right leadership.

BUT WHY BOTHER? Well the reason for persisting through these issues rather than just restricting people's permissions is to enable greater server functionality and autonomy. I've watched this method of preventive restriction slowly strangle the autonomy and functionality of multiple staff teams over the years and to little to no avail at stopping people from abusing, all the way up until the point where what was once the basic happenings of a singular autonomous staff member, now required an entire Admin team vote. . . Absolutely ridiculous. I think although inevitable on some level, the greatest way to stifle abuse is simply by continually moderating and communicating with the team about the standards expected, and promptly removing those who've failed to meet the communicated standards. Should the balance be maintained properly, I think you end up with a happy and functioning staff team and server.
