What magic(s) will you be teaching? Transfiguration

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Transfiguration is the complex art of creating, molding, and editing the world around the caster via the manipulation of mana. This is a two slot magic that encompasses a variety of abilities that make up four main sections.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

As stated above, there are four main sections that fall under the manipulation of mana, all of which require an in depth understanding of both the materials at play, as well as an in depth understanding of transfiguration's abilities and proper usages.

Voidal Feeling

By far the most important tool in the Transfigurationists arsenal, for without it familiarizing oneself with the smattering of the realms materials would take an exorbitant amount of time. Through the process of temporarily channeling mana into an item, the caster is able to detect all manner of things about the item, from basics like freezing point, melting point, boiling point, item density, the items natural colors, as well as its chemical properties such as Toxicity, flammability and volatility. Voidal feeling is exclusively available to be used upon inorganic or dead organic objects, potentially requiring quite a substantial amount of mana based upon the size of the object being voidally felt.

Transmutation

The Second section Transmutation is by far the favorite of the craftsman and those aspiring to be, for it allows the caster to manipulate materials through a vast variety of methods. An avid Transmutationist would be capable of all manner of manipulation such as altering the shape, color, temperature, size, density, even allowing for multiple materials to be fused into one. All of the above abilities require avid knowledge of both the materials being utilized and of course the lengths and limits that are capable of being achieved with each given spell and the caveats of working within those limits. Lastly as a standout from the rest of the abilities within the branch of Transmutation, Enhanced Magelight allows the user to cast the standard Magelight spell, but with the added effects of being able to draw in light from around the caster, creating the potential for either a far brighter light (depending on the surrounding light levels) or even the potential for a flashing distraction of sorts.

Enchanting

By far the most popular section, enchanting provides a vast variety of potential to the Transfigurionist, allowing the caster to weave magical abilities of varying levels into items capable of storing mana. Via the use of magegold, or less commonly Arcanium, the Enchanter is able to utilize their own known magical abilities to enchant the item, or they can work alongside another mage, utilizing their magical capabilities to attain abilities the caster themselves wouldn’t otherwise of been able to without first fully learning the magic themselves. Enchants work via the storage of information within the item, also powered by the mana stored within the item which depending on the tier will require regular recharging upon use. The variety of enchanting ranges from something simple like magelights activatable via a voice command within the caster's home, all the way up to powerful T5 combat enchantment or some kind. Lesser known abilities from the enchanter's knowledge are that of entrapment spells and the utilization of ley lines. Entrap spells effectively allow a competent transfigurationist to gift the knowledge of a spell to another transfigurationist to be utilized within an enchantment without the need for them to be present for co-enchanting. Last but certainly not the least of the enchanting section are mana ley lines, the ability to direct power from something such as a mana obelisk to something out of its potential reach, via channeling ley lines through focus crystals, this allowing the potential reach of a mana obelisk to increase somewhat to those knowledgeable of mana ley lines.

Abjuration and Warding

By default this section acts as somewhat of a defensive coupling of spells for the transfigurationist. First up is Abjuration, allowing a knowledgeable caster to counter the abilities of an aggressing mage. Should this be casted correctly with the proper knowledge of what is being directed towards the caster, the ability has the potential to completely nullify the aggressing projectile, bursting into a puff of nothingness upon contact.

Next up would be Warding allowing the caster to conjure door sized barriers or sometimes up to a 3x3 given time for extra concentration, to help protect against incoming magical projectiles, warding is exclusively used for magical projectiles as it has no effect whatsoever upon physical projectiles of any kind.

An example of Abjuration: (I may or may not have misread this and wrote an entire scenario. . .)

Aggressor = Haadi | Abjurer = Kalgrimmor

Haadi stood firm, upset that Kalgrimmor had eaten his steak he’d give a deep sigh, his eyes beginning to illuminate with a deep purple light as he brought his hands to attention before him.

Kalgrimmor, after having eaten a grand meal of steak began the process of countering, knowing Haadi all too well.The old dwarf closed his eyes a few moments as he focused, controlling his breathing his eyelids would begin to flood with pale blue light as he stood with a full stomach, ready to fight.

Haadi’s stomach rumbled as he formed his hands as though holding an invisible ball, the old man focusing as purple wisps began to pour from his hands, churning into a small ball within the center of the space between his hands, an angered look upon his face as the essence of purple near enveloped his eyes.

Kalgrimmor’s face adorned a rare smirk as the dwarf now mimicked Haadi’s casting style, his hands in a similar shaping, although as he focused his energy it would materialize into what appeared to be a liquideous ball of pearl white matter, circulating in a similar fashion to Haadi’s Arcanism, both castings slowly growing slowly from a small size.

Haadi further angered by the smirk now continued his focus, appearing to stretch the width of the ball as he clenched his hands into claw like formations, the ball of churning Arcanism enlarging to that of the size of a baseball.

Kalgrimmor now confident in his knowledge of Haadi’s spell would continue mirroring his casts, growing the liquideous white ball of matter to a similar size as he poured his essence into it, clenching his hands into claw-like shapes about it’s form.

Haadi now wielding an orb of arcane power at a similar size to a volleyball would let loose his creation, sending it soaring towards the old dwarf with a thrust of his hands.

Kalgrimmor now having fully channeled his abjuration let loose his orb in retaliation, very much mirroring the size Haadi’s spell had reached. Upon collision the two magical projectiles burst into nothingness, leaving two old men standing idly, as angry as before they’d first begun casting.

“Fool, close your damn eyes while you’re casting, you’re barely capable enough to even cast like that, let alone with more distractions” he grumbled, sighing as he contemplated why he’d taken on his student in the first place, the old dwarf pacing about his student with a large stick in hand.

“N- No, please Master Kalgrimmor, I- I don’t want to close my eyes” he said fearfully, his body language indicating he was scared of Kalgrimmor as his head sat sunk into his shoulders and his arms stuck partially raised as he knelt upon the ground within a chalked circle, a small pebble sat before him.

“Ruuubbish, do as I say, foolish boy. . . Why on Anthos would you refuse to close your eyes?” he responded in frustration, tapping the stick against his open hand idly.

“I. . . Please, you- . . . Please don’t hit me again, Master Kalgrimmor” the student whimpered towards the old dwarf, a stray tear gliding down the face of the poor boy as he ran a hand up his arm, revealing rows of red lined markings hidden beneath the boy's sleeve.

“You are WEAK!” the old dwarf screamed, wrenching the large stick into the air as though he planned to hit the student again “CAST! NOW!” he’d scream in the face of the crying student. “How will you ever survive in combat if you cannot even focus with a smack to the arm. . . Such a fool I was to think you were capable.“

“Y- ye-. . . Yes, m- mm- Master K- Kalgrimmor” whimpered the now mess of a student, doing his best to clear the tears from his eyes and slow his breathing over the period of a few silent minutes as the old dwarf circled him, large stick firmly in hand.

“Focus your mind, lad. . . Channel now and do not falter, or you know what happens” he growled at the student, stalking around him like a predator would stalk its prey.

The student took a deep breath, calming himself a moment more before he’d respond “Yes, Master Kalgrimmor” his voice more confident now as he’d lean forward to pick up the pebble that sat before him.

Kalgrimmor remained quiet, nothing more coming from him but the creaking of floor boards as he continued to pace about the sat student as they prepared to cast.

Without saying anything more the student would begin to focus, taking a few deep breaths as they ran through their mental preparations for casting within their mind a few moments before beginning, their eyes now closing. 

A faint light began to shine through the eyelids of the young student as he did his best to maintain his connection to the void, let alone to voidally sense the components of the pebble within his hand.

Kalgrimmor ceased his pacing, pausing right in front of the young student. The cold pale blue glazed eyes of the old dwarf stared piercingly at his student as they attempted to cast.

Beads of sweat began to form upon the students head after mere moments of focusing his connection to the void, the poor student trying his hardest to attempt to channel his mana into the small pebble within his grasp, faltering somewhat as his body began to weaken, exhaustion clearly setting in rapidly.

The old dwarf sighed as he knew he now watched his student again fail to complete a task so trivial to him he barely needed focus on it at all when casting.

The now panting student began to tear up as he heard his master's sighs,  sweat dripping down his face. He’d let out a loud sigh as his neck loosened, the young dwarf slumping off to one side as his head rolled about somewhat before he’d quickly lose balance, hitting his head hard upon the solid wood floors as he fell unconscious.

“Pathetic” grumbled the angry old dwarf as he paced across to hit a button upon one of the nearby walls. Within a few moments a pair of dwarves would rush into the room “Yes Master Kalgrimmor, how can we help?” they would say in relative unison, their eyes glancing down to the student upon the floor, who now bled faintly from where he’d hit his head. “Yes lads, take this boy back to his room, he is little use to me like this. . .” he’d wave a dismissive hand, the two dwarves quickly grabbing hold of the student, lifting him up off the ground they’d begin dragging him towards the exit “Oh and, erh. . . Look after that wound” he’d call back to them as they now waddled through the doorway holding the boy. “Yes Master Kalgrimmor” they’d repeat in unison again as they headed up the hallway. “And stop talking like that!” he’d yell after them, still clearly frustrated.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

If the power gaming isn’t super egregious and more so appears to be a result of a misunderstanding during a lesson I like to oocly inform them of the issue and ensure they understand what has gone wrong, and that they now face the consequences of their actions (Maybe they’d pass out if they’ve tried forming a fireball long before they’d be capable for example.)

I work from a three strike system once I’m confident the student knows what they’re doing with a particular topic, intentionally powergaming in the presence of others once they’re to be considered competent with the magic however, results in me dropping them as a student and potentially reporting them to the LT if required.

Pretty great for a first try man, keep at it!

Sure it would reduce powergaming, but for what it’s worth in prevention, is not worth how it would murder creativity imo and wouldn’t be worth the hassle, nor would it be able to be kept up to date, much like the old tier system of magics was, every time someone used a magic they just said it was T5 and because nobody could keep track of everyone’s chosen tiered magic, so everyone had T5 in whatever they want anyway, so they eventually just changed to to make it so.

You get a pass for being new, I won’t pile on with anything much else as most of what is valid has been said already, but I do want to say welcome! While there are definitely some magic schools about the place and magic people everywhere, your best bet is just to take pure interest in the knowledge of how it all works rather than seeking people purely to be taught. I would suggest getting a baseline of magical knowledge from the Dragur library from spawn and make friends as you go along!

orcs have like two stomachs and a diff brain structure to others, dwarves have bagpipe lungs that hold a shittonne of air, elves have a weird skeletal structure.
