    ~* Victory Picnic *~

My friends, I am happy to announce a victory picnic is to be held in the coming pumpkin days!  This event shall be a joint effort between the village of Honeyhill and the city of Karosgard in order to celebrate Haense’s recent victory over Oren as well as the Halflings beating back the rat swarm which tried to destroy our home.  We have all earned a day of relaxation, to celebrate and turn our attention to the future and the good that is to come.

Taking place in the Honeyhill Botanical Garden there will be much to enjoy during the day:

    A feast
    A game of hide-and-seek
    Face Painting
    Horse-Shoes
    Shogging
    Drinking Games

    Tea

We deserve this, the people of our respective homes have fought hard to keep them and we shall spend the day celebrating this.  I look forward to seeing you all there!

*The Halflings and allies wait for the Swarm within Fort Pumpkin*

On the 12th of the Grand Harvest, in the 60th year of the second age the Halfling’s faced the hardest challenge they have yet to face here in the land of Almaris, faced with thousands of feral rats intent on wiping out the wee-folk and their way of life.  Hoards of the beasties swarmed over the village, turning the land into a living sea of flesh and blood as they blotted out the ground beneath their multitudes.  Yet the Halflings and their allies stood strong! Facing down their enemies as creatures stormed our homes with no sign of stopping.  Much bravery was shown today and for that I must give credit.

To the advance team, Barbog and Hob.  You showed great bravery today as you headed out and personally struck the first blow against the menace. Using bombs to tear down the rat’s homes where they stood.

To the trappers, Jeannette and Daris. Your speed, agility, and wit were unrivaled.  As the rest of the village took shelter in the fort you two darted around the swarm, providing much needed distractions and thinning out their numbers.  Without your timing and smarts it is very possible Fort Pumpkin would have fallen, and with it the town.

To our medics, Sorrel and Penolopee, your quick thinking and speed helped save many tonight.  Without your assistance many would have fallen as the rats attacked, yet you threw yourselves into the face of danger in order to help and aid your fellow wee-folk.  You saved many lives tonight.

And to the fighters, who stood strong in the face of a sea of malice.  Without you none of this would have been possible, you took up arms against an enemy the likes of which we have not seen in years… if ever.  You could have fled to Karosgard, or any other city which would have offered you refuge. Yet you stayed and fought for your home.

I thank you all, without all of your combined efforts I fear what would have happened.  But once again we have shown the world that the Halflings are not the easily beaten people many think of us as.  We showed resilience, bravery, intelligence, and every other positive adjective I can think of today. You have all made me proud to be a Halfling, a resident of our village, and the Thain of our people.

~* The Giving of Titles *~

Even though we fought bravely I can no longer ignore the help and sacrifice our biggun friends have shown us in the previous years and in the battle today.  Risking their lives has shown me that a select group of people have earned the title of Honorary Halfling if they so choose.

To Barbog the Provider, you have sacrificed much these past few years as you have labored to serve the village.  Your intelligence knows no bounds and your willingness to help is endless.

To Nemea the Protector, you have taken up the role of shire guardian marvelously.  While protecting our people you have never once talked down to us, knowing that while we may be able to take care of ourselves we could always use a helping hand.

To Amura the Wise, you have shown a never-ending desire to learn about our culture and way of life.  Your respect is admirable and taking up arms in defense of our village is much appreciated.

If you choose to accept these titles you will no longer be considered outsiders, with it comes the responsibility to keep performing your duties to the town.  However, under the law and in the eyes of the villagers you shall be considered Halflings.

~* The War of the Rats *~

My fellow Halflings, as many of you know we have continuously come under attack by the rat hoard that had made their home within the dungeon under the village.  This menace has injured many of our villagers, friends, and even strangers, threatened our food supply, and genuinely just caused vast disturbances in our village and the balance itself.  While we have made many attempts to simply push them out it seems they are determined to stay and wipe out our little village along with the people within it!  With the hoard moving fleeing the dungeon and into the hills around the village and increasing their harassment of our villagers it is time to push back, we can no longer stay passive as they threaten our people and way of life.  We are at war my friends!

    Giant_rat_bad.png

We are planning counter measures to exterminate this threat before it can do any more damage to us or nature itself; for the next few months we will be hosting a plethora of events to prepare us for the battle that is to come.  Already there are defense classes, first-aid classes, and shovel training courses planned for the coming few months.  Within the next pumpkin day a town-hall will be hosted in the theatre to better explain the situation to the residents of Honeyhill and to see what plans can be proposed to better prepare us.

We need all hands on deck friends, the threat is overwhelming but working together we can push through this.  If you have any ideas on how you can help the war-effort please contact me directly to propose your ideas.

~* The Outlawing of Voidal Magics! *~

My friends, it is with a heavy heart that I come to you with this message.  As you all know the village has fallen under repeated harassment and violence by those wielding their corrupt magics.  First there came the murder of the biggun boy by a witch, then came a meaningless attack on our very own Taylor by a random biggun mage, and next our own Barbog has been viciously attacked by an atronach.  Each time we have encountered these magics it has only brought pain and suffering unto our people and I can no longer in good conscience allow this to continue.

As of now Voidal Magics have been declared improper by the power invested in me as Thain, as well as this biggun voidal mages and their constructs are to not be allowed in the village.  If a Halfling gives into the temptation of voidal magics they are to be sent to the Thain or Sheriff in an attempt to re-educate them in why these ways are wrong.  In was only in recent history that these paths had been deemed acceptable for Halflings, but after seeing how these 'gifts' have been wielded within our peaceful village it seems that they had it right to begin with.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Druidic Communion

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Druidism in general is at its core a relationship with the world and the things that call it home, while everyone is capable of building this relationship to a degree Communion allows the druid to form a deeper and more meaningful bond with it.  It is the foundation that Druids build off of to better understand, help, and serve the balance as they move through the world.  Without communion a druid can not perform their other gifts, they cannot serve nature and the aspects in the way they are called to do.  In a way it’s almost like a roommate situation, while yes just existing in the same space as someone will cause some sort of relationship to form, actively talking to your roommate and hanging out with them will cause that relationship to grow into something it would have otherwise not been.

Like I said previously, Druidism at it’s core is a relationship and as such needs to be actively developed and worked on.  The hum of nature constantly being at the back of the attuned’s mind serves as a reminder of the commitment they have undertaken and how they must work on this to further develop it.  This is why even after becoming attuned one must spend time deep in meditation or mindfulness as a way to grow this bond further and to strengthen their ties to nature as they learn how to operate inside of nature without going against it and working to fix things that are causing the balance to fall out of place.  Communion actively influences the way those in tune with it live their lives, the flow of nature being felt around them driving them forward to fix any problems they may find in it to help create harmony in their environment and their communities.

There are many things come along with communion that help a druid further this relationship, empathy for instance allows a druid to tap into the feelings of the nature around them and pick up disturbances or even to share their own feelings back, beastspeak allows those who use it to better understand the wildlife around them and how they may help even if it’s limited by the animals intelligence, growth can help further nourish the world around the druid, and the list goes on.  Each skill acquired with communion serves in some way to better understand the world around them and to better serve it.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Druidism has two branches which both stem off from communion, those being control and infusion.

The first is control, many of the abilities people associate with druidism stem from this branch as they are oftentimes a bit more showy as they are literally encouraging the world around you to work with you in some way.  However, control is a misleading word for it as these gifts are oftentimes almost like rewards for growing one's relationship with nature.  We are not controlling nature in a sense, simply asking it to work with us.  Growth is a good example of a control ability, being able to encourage a plant to grow quickly from even just a seed into a fully grown plant, surge is as well with the ability to control the rapid growth of some plant-materials in order to perform some sort of task like blocking up a passage.  These abilities are often very physically taxing as you’re almost calling upon a favor from nature itself though as a druid continues to work on and grow their gifts this becomes easier over time even if it’s never ‘easy’.

Infusion on the other hand is a way to manipulate the energy around the druid and help it perform certain tasks, oftentimes not as showy as many of the control abilities and a big reason some of these abilities go unnoticed by the wider world.  Attunement, one of the most important things for a druid as it serves to open up their gifts for the first time is an example of an infusion ability.  Where in a teacher acts as a bridge for the one being attuned, most often their student, and helps them open their physical and mental senses to the world around them and allows them to start their study of communion.  By infusing a pool of water with their energy a teacher is able to perform this process, though it is extremely physically and mentally taxing on both parties as both must put all their energy into the process.  As a side effect of the ritual both the teacher and student are linked in a way, the shared energy that has gone into it flowing between them and creating a bond that will be felt unto the day they die.  Another good example of an Infusion ability comes in Powersharing, during which a druid is able to share some of their energy with another party; therefore allowing the recipient to perform spells and abilities for a much greater length of time or with much more strength than they would have otherwise.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

    Aye, I’ll be doing Beastspeak.

Iris would slowly approach the caged rat, sitting down in front of the door to it’s cage and peering through the bars towards the little creature.  “Shhhh little’un, i’s qui’e alrigh’.” she would coo in a soothing voice before closing her eyes for a moment to steady herself.

After a moment the Halfling’s ear would twitch and as she opened her eyes once more they were now both a matching shade of green instead of their normal opposing colora.  She leans forward, eying the cowering creature in the corner of it’s cage before her lips begin to move softly, as if she was speaking to someone or something under her breath.

Iris would stop her muttering after a few seconds have passed, perking a brow as if seeming to listen before continuing up again.  She continues this routine for a few minutes, occasionally growing still once more before her silent conversation resumes once more.

After some time the wee-lass would look up at her friend standing silently in the corner, her eyes fading slowly back to their normal color. “Teh poor thing is hungry, grab some bread from teh kitchen will yeh?” she asks, wiping her forehead with a handkerchief from her pocket to dry off the sweat that has formed during the interaction as she gets up and heads over to the water barrel to grab it a drink.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

Alrighty, i’ll be going over a ‘Tuning’ lesson with a T2 Druid.

Iris would answer the door with a smile, “‘lo t’ere Bur’! Yer righ’ on time fer yer lesson, come on in darlin’.” the wee-lass would hum warmly, gesturing the boy into her burrow.  “Would yeh loike aneh tea or anehthin’ befer we begin?” she would ask, heading into the kitchen.

“No thank you, i’m quite alright. My minds been preoccupied a bit lately anyway.” the man responds, casting her a knowing look as he heads into the living room to take a seat on the couch before waiting for his teacher to join him.

Iris chuckles, preparing a mug of tea before heading over to join him in the living room, taking a seat across from him and starting to sip on her tea. “Aye, i’ can beh ah bi’ much a’ firs’. Bu’ don’ yeh worreh, soon enough yeh will ge’ used ter teh noise.” she says, knocking on her head softly with a chuckle. “Bu’ tha’ is why we are havin’ t’is lesson terday! We’re goin’ ter beh goin’ ovah tunin’.”

The student would perk an eyebrow, blinking over at Iris for a moment. “And this will help with the headaches?” he asks, somewhat incredulously.

“No’ a’ firs’ darlin’, bu’ i’s ah s’ep ter ge’ there.” she hums in response, sitting her tea down and picking up a small flower pot sitting on the table holding a rose. “We learned abou’ communion las’ time, which allows yeh ter tap inter teh hum of na’ure as ah w’ole around yeh.” she explains, looking up towards her student. “Tunin’ allows yeh ter focus in on one specific t’ing loike blades of grass, ah single tree, or even ah lileh-pad.  Terday we will beh usin’ t’is rose as an example.”

The student nods, leaning forward a bit to examine the flower. “Aye, I suppose that makes sense enough.” he says, looking it over a bit longer before turning back to Iris and waiting for her instructions.

“So! Jus’ loike wit’ communion yeh mus’ steadeh yerself, open yerself up ter teh world firs’ an’ once yeh are t’ere yeh can star’ focusin’ in on our little friend ‘ere.” she says while sitting the plant back down and leaning back into her seat to resume sipping her tea. “Remembeh, i’s always poli’e ter lis’en firs’. Yeh wouldn’ wan’ someone jus’ bustin’ inter yer ‘ome  an’ demandin’ ah conversa’ion af’ah all.”

“Aye, can do Iris.” The man would state, leaning back in his seat while starting to collect himself.  Starting to control his breaths and fall into a meditative state like he had been practicing.

Iris stays quiet, her eyes shifting to a matching green instead of their normal opposing colors as she opens up herself to the voices of nature as well.

The student would establish his connection, his brows furrowing a bit as the ever-present hum in the back of his head roars up to fill his senses.  His pinky twitches as he opens his eyes which have shifted to almost a matching shade of green as his teacher and he looks down towards the rose sitting patiently on the tea-table in front of them.

[!] At first the sounds of nature would be almost overwhelming to the still fledgling druid.  But as he starts to focus he would be able to make out the sound of… something through the commotion.  Almost as if someone is calling for him from the other side of a crowded market.

“Now remembeh Bur’, don’ rush i’.  Jus’ take yer toime an’ if she’s feelin’ good she’ll talk ter yeh.” she hums, smiling a bit as she watches her student lean forward a bit.

Burt would lean forward towards the rose, his brows furrowing as perspiration starts to form a small sheen on his forehead.  He nods softly in response to her advice, his gaze not trailing from the potted flower in front of him.

[!] As the student continues to focus in on the flower for the first time in what probably seems like ages to him the voices around him would start to quiet down.  Though not subdued it almost becomes background noise and the voice from earlier becomes more clear as what is almost a cheery tune being hummed by someone in the distance.

“Yer doin’ amazin’ darlin’.” the wee-lass would say, continuing to watch her student work on honing his skills like a proud parent watching their child open a gift on christmas morning.

Burt manages a smile through his concentration, nodding gently while remaining silent and just listening and concentrating, “It sounds almost as if she is singing but just… far off.” he says after a moment.

Iris beams at this, smiling over at him. “Aye! S’es fond of tha’!” she says with a chuckle.

[!] As Burt continues to listen the sound seems to grow closer and more clear, as if he is approaching the source of it.  Finally becoming audible as the rose continues her little song.  The soft notes floating up and almost creating the feeling of a spring day right after a fresh rain.  Calm, comforting, warm.  All of these emotions being felt as the tune washes over the student.  While the buzz around them is still ever-present it has faded into the background, possibly even being forgotten in this moment.

Burt wipes some of the sweat off his brow, a smile growing over his features as he listens into the plants melody.  After a moment his lips begin to flutter softly, as if talking to someone even while making very little actual noise.

Iris would lean in expectantly, her eyes catching light from the fire burning happily in the hearth near them and sparkling a bit as she watches.

Burt would smile, chuckling a bit as he continues his little routine. Seeming to mutter something before pausing for a few seconds and continuing. After some time he would lean back in his chair his eyes fading back to their normal colors as he catches his breath. “I think it worked.” he jests after a moment, turning his attention back to Iris finally.

“Oi told yeh i’ would.” she says, passing a handkerchief over for him to wipe his forehead off with before jumping up and heading to the kitchen once more. “An’ now yeh go’ toime fer tea!”

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

I truly believe it's just a matter of talking to them directly, we have all messed up at certain times and with magic there is so much room for interpretation that power gaming is bound to happen no matter how much we try to avoid it, especially in the learning process.  For me it's really as simple as shooting them a DM and explaining what actions they performed that constitute power gaming and how they can keep from doing that in the future.

"Hey so-and-so, [this action] would be considered powergaming.  In the future keep in mind that [how the action should have been performed."

  7. "If yeh would 'ave spoken ter meh maybeh oi could 'ave explained myself ins'ead of runnin' ter cry foul and ques'ion ma decision makin' in fron' of teh w'ole village." The thain would mumble, sighing a bit as she goes. "Oi decided ter trade teh ship in fer ah smallah ship more fi' fer 'alflings a' teh earlies' convenience  Howevah, we need an escape vessel in case we mus' flee t'is land in ah similiar fashion ter teh las' world.  We mus' 'ave ah way ter ge' teh village ter safe'eh, w'ich is teh reason oi brough' i' an' w'y i' will s'ay righ' w'ere i' is un'il we trade i' in."

  10. ~* A Halfling's Afterlife *~

Like many other belief systems, Halflings believe that there are two possible places that one may end up depending on the course of their life; one for those who have lived ‘good’ lives and a place for those who have lived ‘bad’ lives.  However, unlike many other beliefs one does not gain access to one or the other through strict adherence to a set of rules.  Instead, the actions Halflings take during their lifetimes and how they treat those around them is what determines their final destination.

    The Golden Wheatfields

The Golden Wheatfields is where any decent Halfling will strive to end up and most do make their way there after their life has concluded.  One must only strive to treat those around them with respect, help their community, and be a good person in order to find themselves here in the never ending sea of grain.  Even if one stumbles every now and then through their life, as everyone does, it is merely the intent to do good that counts and this is something that is rarely missing from the wee-folk.

This world is everything a Halfling could hope for, a large hill sits in the middle of it which has countless burrows for all the Halflings who have made their way there throughout the ages.  Song and dance are always close at hand as the endless feasts keep the residents' bellies full and hearts happy.  The ale never stops running, laughter never stops coming, and music is always filling the air with it’s soft melodies as the decent wee-folk from everywhere are able to live without fear of being raided or going hungry.  It truly is heavenly.  Around this hill golden wheat is planted as far as the eye can see, almost seeming as if it never ends.  Many choose to spend their days tending to the crops, finding the utmost joy in tending to the land even in death.

    WHEAT.jpg?width=702&height=468

Many families live in burrows together, up to 20 generations sometimes living in the same burrow which can grow as big as an entire village.  Yet nothing is ever too far away to walk, as time does not matter.  The only worry is who will tell the next story as Halfling history is told and discovered all around this most splendid of places.

    Arugula’s Tide

This place is the golden wheatfields mirror in every way; food and drink being unheard of, crying and wailing replacing that of laughter, no crops to tend to, no friends to catch up with.  In fact, this realm consists of nothing but dark murky water in which the poor souls who wind up here float, a giant whirlpool which continuously sucks them in and drowns them over-and-over again, storm clouds delivering a constant downpour of rain which ensures no one here can ever feel the warmth of dryness again, and lightning which is always quickly followed by thunder to assure even if one was able to fall asleep they will not be granted that relief for long.  You see, Halflings prefer to have their feet planted solidly on land, to feel the earth between their toes.  So, when the place of punishment for the wee-folk was thought up by the gods above, it only made sense to never allow them that pleasure or security ever again.

    arugula.jpg?width=817&height=468

Instead, those cursed to spend eternity in Arugula’s Tide simply float in an endless ocean, constantly being sucked into a giant whirlpool in the center where they drown, before bobbing back up on the outskirts only to repeat the process so many times they lose count.  To make matters worse, sometimes Arugula themself will show up, devouring some poor soul and sending terror throughout their realm before disappearing into it’s murky depths once more. Though many people do not find themselves here, parents often tell stories of this place to their children to make sure they behave.  Though it is rare, some unfortunate souls have been sent here through the ages, cursed to forever float in a sea of darkness.

The creation of Knox allowed Billy Bob to enter another age of relaxation, turning his attention once again to his private affairs and hobbies.  As time went on he was able to take a more relaxed position in the world, travelling out less and less as the years went on.  This laidback behavior was what allowed the problem to spread so rapidly without being noticed.  Knox had been created to defend the Halflings; however, Knox was so good at his job that it in turn gave the wee-folk an unfair advantage in the world and allowed them to spread rapidly.  Halfling settlements eventually popped up all over as their population increased exponentially in a way that had never been seen before and has never been seen since.  Knox viciously defended these villages, eventually earning a reputation as a serial killer that many bigguns still associate with him to this day as he struck down bigguns with his scythe over and over again.  However, while the world outside these communities may have seen him as an evil creature bringing death wherever he went, the wee-folk of the world came to know him more and more as the protector of their people and way of life as he killed in defense of them.

    SHIRE.jpg

The Halflings thrived during this age, multiple cultures and societies sprouting up all over.  However, in creating a guardian of the wee-folk Billy Bob had in turn created an unfair advantage.  Allowing the wee to spread unchecked was problematic, and many of the societies that were forming were not what he had in mind for them when he grew them all those years ago.  As rich and diverse as these cultures were, many Halflings were going against their nature in order to form them and were not living the life they were meant to.

    A Discovery

It was on one of Billy Bob’s trips that he first started to notice this, coming across a city of Halflings who had grown into a nation that could rival it’s human counterparts.  Mina were being used, weapons of all kinds were being taken up, shoes were being worn, and worse of all they had shunned their traditional burrows in place for walled cities and biggun buildings.  Nothing about this place was what he had expected and it shocked him, realizing that gifting them Knox had allowed this to happen.  Returning home he spent weeks mulling over what to do, not wanting to simply take Knox away from them as it would cause the Halflings to be massacred in mass by the other races.  Instead, he opted to create a counterpart.

    A Creation

Once again Billy Bob found himself entering his personal gardens to grow something new for the first time in centuries.  Heading to the stream behind his cottage where he grew various water based plants he bent down and labored extensively to create something to one again fix the balance he had disrupted.  Using the roots of lily-pads he created 10 tentacles that stretched off into oblivion, from the river rocks he created a giant beak, and from the mud itself he created a head to which attach it all.  In doing so Billy Bob gave Arugula life, a giant squid with the power to destroy entire Halfling villages, settlements, and even cities and drag them into the ocean’s depths.  Which is exactly what it went on to do.

    Age of Destruction

For the next few years the Halfling population diminished as Arugula would show up at Halfling settlements that had lost their way and dragged them into the ocean depths to never be seen again.  Knox did his best to defend these places but as designed Arugula would show up and drag their homes away so quickly the deity would not have time to get there and defend them.  It seemed to the wee-folk at first that they were doomed; however, after a few years and the majority of the settlements that had gone against their original design had been wiped out these constant attacks by the squid came less and less as the remaining wee-folk returned to their life as simple farmers.  Eventually they all but stopped for the most part, the stories fading into legends told to children to get them to behave and not stray from properness.

    KRAKEN.jpg?width=846&height=453

Thus ends this story of destruction, Knox still watching over the wee-folks while Arugula always lingers in the depths right out of sight, waiting to drag any Halflings who have strayed from their path into the murky depths below.

((Like my previous post this is just some more expanded religious lore for Halflings))

  12. ~* A Story of Creation *~

    The First Age

Golden wheat fields, growing as far as the eye could see were all that made up the world in the beginning.  Billy Bob, the first man, tended to these fields and as time went on he was able to use his knowledge to start growing more and more.  It was not long before cabbage, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, and every other vegetable one can imagine could be found in tidy little rows stretching into the horizon.  Each one given so much attention and love that having one perish before it’s time was unheard of.  Days stretched into weeks, and weeks into years as he worked, back-breaking labor giving rise to more and more flora and soon the earth was covered in the diverse landscape we know today.  Trees of all sorts thrived, flowers turned the land into a majestic painting, and herbs grew all over that Billy Bob used to create wonderful dishes for himself.

    FOREST.jpg

    The Second Age

These centuries were peaceful, with the deity travelling around and admiring his creations, but never wavering in his dedication to caring for them.  It was not long after that he grew content with his work with the plants of the world and he decided to turn his attention elsewhere.  The world, while beautiful, was quiet.  This is when he tried his hand at growing more sentient life, in his gardens he started to grow the fauna of the world.  Billy Bob filled the waterways with marine life, planting them on lily pads to float away into the oceans and rivers until old enough to break free on their own.  For the air he grew birds from dandelion seeds to fill the earth with song, blowing them into the air and giving them life with his own breath.  And for the land, emerging from flowers in every corner of the earth came creatures that would roam it’s forests, deserts, tundras, and everything in between.  This too went on for years, as the farmer travelled to and fro creating the creatures that still inhabit the lands, seas, and skys to this day.

    ANIMALS.jpg?width=683&height=453

    The Third Age

In creating the animals Billy Bob thus created a self-sustaining cycle, creatures feasting upon the plants and going on to seed other areas, animals dying which would then go on to fertilize the plants that would feed the other animals.  For the first time since his creation the creator was able to take some time off, thus came the first true age of relaxation.  He used this time to work on more personal pursuits: learning to create furniture, to smith tools and weapons, how to use the herbs he had grown to create magical alchemical potions, how to use the animals he created to help him with his chores, and lastly how to use both of his creations to cook up the best dishes that the world had ever, and will ever see.  It was not long before he was creating grand feasts for himself which he would eat on a long dining table he had built himself.  Yet, there was still one thing missing.

    FEAST.jpg?width=604&height=453

    The Fourth Age

While the earth was now teeming with life and full of sound, Billy Bob found himself wishing to share his creations with someone who could appreciate them the same way he could and so he turned his attention to the last of his great tasks.  The creation of intelligent life.  Strolling out into his personal gardens he began his work.

    ~*~

From these plants sprouted the descendants, who then spread themselves to all four corners of the land.  No longer lonely, Billy Bob now had friends to share his majestic feasts with and he was happy.  Each race going on to create homes, nations, and societies for themselves and each falling into the curses he had bestowed upon them.  Billy Bob continued to watch over his garden, the world thriving with the life he had created.

    The Creation of a Savior

However, it was not long before he noticed a problem amongst the smallest of them.  While he had known the Halflings would be used by others, keeping towns and cities well fed with the produce of their fields, he did not expect the violence that they would experience as well.  While on one of his travels he passed through a small Halfling shire he found the residents there being picked on by a group composed of elves, humans, dwarves, and orcs.  Angered that they would take advantage of the wee-folk in such a manner, Billy Bob gave life to one of the scarecrows in the Halfling’s fields.  In doing so he created Knox himself, a deity unto itself who would serve as the Halfling’s protector and guide from now into the future.

    WHEAT.jpg?width=680&height=453

Thus is the creation of the world, Billy Bob to this day nourishing it’s residents with regular gifts of taters to keep us going in times of duress.  Each race filling the niche they had been created for and all the while Knox watches over the smallest among them.

((This is simply to serve as expanded Halfling religious lore for the community to interact and play with))

  13. Halflings are pretty cool and we're actively recruiting if you're interested!  We're running events at all hours of the day so people have the chance to attend, though it is in no way required to be there!

But also High Elves and the Orcs in Krugmar are very fun people who can offer you a fun community and nice RP.

  14. ~* Baked Baking Class *~

With war ravaging our lands it's important to realize what unites us in this time of division.  While we and the orcs have historically not been the closest two groups, we here in Honeyhill would like to extend a hand of friendship by inviting the residents of Krugmar to a Baked Baking Class within the next Pumpkin Week.  There are many ways that we differ; however, one place we do not is in our mutual love of having a good time!

    baked_goods.jpg

During this class the Halflings shall share our knowledge of how to instill the essence of Pipeweed into butter which can then be used in a variety of dishes to create a similar effect to smoking the herb, but much longer lasting and intense.  As well as this, while our goods are baking in our village oven we will be supplying some of our very own village strains to enjoy while we wait.  Afterwards we shall feast together on what we have created as well as various other treats to keep our bellies full and our hearts bright.

We look forward to seeing you there!

  15. ~* A Night of Friendship *~

In year 56 of the second age the Halfling’s of Honeyhill carried out the second ever Pumpkin Raid here in the land of Almaris, and by far the most successful!  Traveling around and spreading cheer and pumpkin blessings everywhere they went, the group of holy Pumpkin Crusaders successfully spread the good news of Knox all around the land.  However, by far the brightest moment of the night was when we arrived at the gates of Haelun’or and were welcomed with open arms by the lovely residents therein.  Many good times were had soon after!

This night combined with the last visit where Knoxmas Carolers were welcomed into the city to serenade the residents have shown the good folks of Honeyhill that Haelun’or is truly a good and friendly place with lovely people within.  We look forward to developing this friendship and toast to their victory over any who would question their kindness!

  16. ~* Halfling Recruitment Post *~

Have you ever thought of making a Halfling? Well now is the time!

Why should you make a Halfling?

Halflings have been a staple on the server for many years and have truly carved out their own place within the culture of the server.  Despite this they have remained one of the smallest LotC communities through this entire time.  Now this is due to a plethora of reasons, it is no secret that Halflings lean towards more SoL and tend to avoid the overarching conflicts of the server as a whole, as well as having bouts of toxicity that some have come to associate with the race.  However, Halflings as of late have been actively working against this and have ushered in a new age of community and commitment.  SoL does not mean that playing a Halfling cannot be a fulfilling experience one can sink their teeth into the same way one can with High Elven political rp, Orcish war rp, or Human religious rp.

    An Explosion of Activity!

Recently the Halflings have moved to the village of Honeyhill within the nation of Haense and with the move has come an explosion of activity and events.  While still a small community there are usually at least 2-3 players bouncing around the village and the leadership is very easily reached on Discord should you need to get something done quickly.  There has been an increase in eventlines and push towards more trade and interaction with other nations which has opened up new avenues for the wee-folk.  If you’ve ever thought about making a Halfling right now really is a good time for it.

    Fishing.png?width=884&height=468

Ice fishing to celebrate the start of Knoxmas!

With multiple weekly events, we are more active than ever, all of the events above having happened within the last month alone.  Halflings have hundreds of years of history and culture to play with and rich lore that has proven to keep a committed player base over the years no matter how small it may be at times.   If you’re looking for a dedicated, varied, and light-hearted (as long as you don’t wear shoes smh) community that genuinely just likes to have a good time we’re definitely where you can find that.

The village of Honeyhill.  Wow! So Pretty!

    Extremely Based Halfling Families

Currently there are 4 active Halfling families, all of which are looking for new members to join their ranks.  These are: The Applebottoms, the Peregrins, the Applefoots, and the Fiddleberrys. Each one of these families has their own lore and history that add so much depth to the village and the characters within; however, we are also actively seeking out people to form new families and help carry us into the next Halfling golden age.  For more information on Halfling families please feel free to look through the link below and contact the head of the houses if they interest you.

If you’re interested I would suggest stopping by the village sometime to get a taste of what we have to offer, we would love to have you!

  18. Good post and it brings up a lot of valid points.  I'm a SOL role-player and really I have rarely taken part in wars.  But I do have to say, the general lack of conflict (or at least the absence of a sense of conflict) going on around the map has even begun to seep into our communities as well.  While SOL people rarely take part in conflict itself, having it going on in the background does also affect to flow of every day things.

Overarching story lines shape what we talk about over tea, the type of events we put on, the way we RP within our communities and honestly one can only talk about the weather or how so-and-so's kid is doing so many times before it grows stale.  Gossiping about what nations may fall to another, hosting events where we learn how to make emergency kits in case of evacuation, talking in hushed voices about when soldiers may descend on our homes is fun.

As a leader in a community that thrives on SOL roleplay I have found myself having to insert some sort of conflict into our village just so we have something to interact with.  While getting raided every day isn't the most fun, it at least gave us something to do and sorta rally around; with the crackdown on conflict rules I can't remember the last time we got raided or bandited.  Even Halflings love a good world-changing war every now and then, and it feels as if the days where those actually happened are behind us.

  19. "Haense is gettin' readeh fer war!" the Thain of Honeyhill and loyal subject of Haense would yell out the door of her burrow to alert the village.  "Make sure we're well s'ocked wit' drinks!" she would add before disappearing inside once more to scheme.
