Across the realm of the Fringe, an oddity appears, drifting in the sky.
It is a lotus, made of the most delicate of crystal. Like the flowers of the elfshair vine, it is carried through the blue of the sky, held aloft by the wind alone. Every so often, one of these precious, gleaming gems gently floats to the earth.
Eventually, one settles near you.
The flower sits serenely amongst its surroundings, taking in and softly reflecting the light crossing through it in a luminous display.
Those curious enough to touch the flower would find that mere contact with it causes it to disintegrate, but not before imparting a message.
Shortly after contact, those without well-made wards nor strong mental barriers guarding their conscious would find the world around them growing darker, until eventually the world becomes black. The ground beneath you turns blue, and a woman stands before you, clad in white, and surrounded in an incandescent aura.
She speaks, her voice echoing into your mind. It's clear as crystal, and the words seem to leave a lasting impression in your mind.
"The Fringe is a diseased place."
"War sullies the children of the first four fathers. Their hate, and rage tears asunder both the land and each-other by ferocity alone. This devastating melee has allowed darkness through the cracks of our world, spreading taint unto the land, salting the earth and spreading plague throughout. It is a place not meant for the children of the four to live, and soon the children of the four shall leave."
"It is inevitable."
"Do not despair, however. Just as the curtain on this war torn land closes, so too does a new one open. As your forefathers have done in centuries past, the time will come when the children of the four take exodus to lands anew. And within your destination lies hope for a place where peace, knowledge, and faith may thrive."
"The beginnings of a Utopia."
"To strive for perfection is to be alive. To be wise is knowing that you will never come close. When a new dawn shines on the faces of the four, a place of harmony, and wisdom shall arrive. A place where the strive for perfection can be sought, within walls of crystal and stone."
"You shall find me there."
The woman ceases her message, and fades into the blackness once more. Slowly, the veil surrounding you lifts, and the war torn lands of the Fringe fills your sight once more. The flower you touched has faded to nothing more than dust, but overhead you see one or two of its sisters still floating overhead, seeking out more mortals to impart the message of this mythical figure.
And so the process continues...
