Do you have anything to say about your response to staff? Why the ban was deserved?

Also to note, appeals are to be of a good quality. If you're having trouble spelling words that typically shows to us that you haven't invested a sum of time into actually writing the appeal and truly dont realize your issues. Please resubmit with these words in mind.

    Denied.

  2. Solace stands in his tower, staring out over the square. Soon after the information was delivered to the aged man

"Excellent! It is good to see Celia'nor having some better organization... I too am excited for the commencement of the guilds program... perhaps I can join and our name can be spread further!" The excited mali' exclaimed with a mild smile.

In the world a lone creature stood, pitched atop his tower. Overlooking the city of Celia'nor he gazed through a crystal ball, whispers of war on his mind. Horrors clawed at his mind as he thought to himself

"They've already lost, we live amongst them. With only a few steps will it take our win."
The horrors, the beyond, flooded his mind. It boggled with chaos and overflowed. A new direction was to be taken, one of the watching eye.

    Spoiler

I watched some of the fight, it went very smoothly and was very enjoyable to watch, additionally I am excited to get involved with a bigger conflict and hopefully seers can be part of this! (we will be anyway, we are in your walls).

  4. I stewed over a good response for this for awhile, wrote an entire paragraph, then deleted it. Trying to formalize a good response to this is hard.  This is not a formal staff response, just my matter of opinion and experience.

I know there to be issues revolving around the use of slurs and insults based on ones qualities (race, gender, sexual orientation, religion at times, etc.) and have very often gone out of my way to punish those who do so. The issue we face is that a) moderation does not have fair and equal access to every chat associated with lotc, and even if we did people would simply make other chats to say these things. b) almost inherent in the internet is people with different 'opinions' wherein they have a belief that others are lesser or simply refuse to acknowledge their existence (e.g. the example of someone being transphobic.). c) Time, place, and context are a huge piece of it all that moderation often does not get. We also cannot know with certainty what the supposed perpetrators qualities are either, so punishing someone for saying a slur while they belong to one of the parties insulted can get messy and some believe in reclaiming words. All in all, there are a ton of roadblocks that make it hard for us to punish one offs or private chats or logs from a time ago.

I do believe that these roadblocks should not be excuses for us to work harder and be more stringent on what we allow. It is very often that I see someone use ableist terms and it goes unpunished due to just general societies lack of care about the issue in terms of the internet. You see people old and young use it all the time, and the same can go with a dozen other slurs that are almost commonplace (e.g. people incorrectly calling Native Americans something else). I also previously mentioned how people have a differing opinion on what they consider heinous, and this too goes for moderation, meaning each moderator has a different tolerance for what they let slide or not.

In short, what stops us is a difference between moderators, the almost impossibility for us to moderate platforms outside of what we own fully, and finally the context of every situation. I believe we can do better on our platforms, but anything outside of those will always remain a difficult situation or impossible to moderate.

  6. this is more useful for mods than it is like useful server-wide, which I appreciate. It lets us have a dedicated section of commands so that when war comes about that they're divided out evenly and players cannot use one persona slot for 10 different wars

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Mysticism

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Mysticism is most known for its ability to manipulate ectoplasm to varying degrees to achieve effects closely related to the spectral undead. A mystic-to-be must start by seeking out a geist of some sort to which they will bind themself, allowing them access to Liturgies which is a quantity of ectoplasm used in certain increments based on the spell or ritual. Once bound to a single spirit the mystic may progress up to tier three, needing a second Geist bound to them for further tiers and more stores of ectoplasm. When a Mystic wants to use their ectoplasm they are stricken with effects of gleaming, which grow in intensity based on the tier. These effects range from paler skin, hair, or nails all the way up to having sunken flesh with ethereal bones glowing beneath and torn or tattered clothing. In general, these effects are present in all spells, but if there are any exceptions then they are listed directly in the description of the spell.

Mysticism is broken down into two catagories of spells. The first is spells (Sometimes referred to as also Liturgies) and the second is Sacraments (rituals). Inside of the spells catagory all mystics have access to three base spells. Saturation, deadbreath, and walling which requires the mystic to be amputated. Alongside those spells there are specialties detailed below that each have their own pros and cons to use. In terms of Sacraments, all mystics can access them but all revolve around manipulation ectoplasm, specters, or anything associated with them. The most popular ritual is the rite of harvesting which allows a mystic to draw out a portion of another's soul for later use in rituals or MArt creation. A mystic may store a single shard inside of themself temporarily so that they may transport it. The most popular ritual is Hexing, which is effectively using the damned geists of the Elysian to imbue an item with special effects relative to the geist summoned.

The third and final aspect to touch on with Mysticism is Wights and Eidolas, both requiring a mystic to create and have their own separate pieces of lore. Eidolas are the stone knights of Mystics and are great for storing souls as a mobile menhir and being the brute force of the Synod while Wights are the leaders of the Synod and are a creature with special phylacteries amongst other abilities including both classes of the magic.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Inside of Mysticism there are two subclasses, detailed below.

The first class is Mystic Conjurer which feels the effects of old age on their physical form and become physically weak in exchange for heightened spiritual presence. Their class focuses on cursing others and controlling the wandering specters of the world to their whim, including feeding, draining, and handling.

The other class is the Mystic Blades who are focused on melee combat, being cursed with a hate for merriment, happiness, and being weakened to gold, salt, and symbols of holy religion. They exceed in melee combat with being able to slow others, vanish into thin air, and being able to manifest their geist into the material world for combat.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

Solace stood in the midst of the conflict, his eyes darting between each soul while his mind raced with thoughts of anxiety and excitement mixed into one.

He'd then reach out and grip the air infront of himself while a white fog began to roll into his hand and coallesque into a pool of slimy green goop. In addition his clothes faded in color and ripped at random while his flesh sunk back to reveal a glowing skeleton through his frail and thin skin. Finally, the pool of ectoplasm he had brought forth was brought closer to his mouth as he inhaled it like a pipe of sorts.

Solace continued to suck the ectoplasm down into his lungs until they filled to the brim. A sickly and disgusted face overtook his expression as small strands of smoke wavered about near his mouth.

The ancient Seer finally released his lungs, spewing out a thick slurry of ectoplasm in a range all around him, causing the areas visibility to quickly shrink as the heavy clouds rolled out around him, obscuring vision to any non-spectral creatures, mystics, or seers.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

Solace wandered into the damp crypt of the Synod, his hand upon the massive Menhir that housed the dozens of souls trapped in its wet stone. "Ah, the agony." He'd revel for a moment in annoyance before moving off to the side.

Student entered the area as well and nodded to his teacher, the two closing together before some mild conversation was taken on.

"Today, we shall be learned the most vital spell known to all mystics. It is a fundamental known as Saturation. This will allow you to not only create more specters to demand control of, but it will also allow you to scavenge the souls of the dying. When it deals the final blow, you can harvest their soul or transform them into the aforementioned creature." Solace explained while the effects of gleaming overtook him.

Student nodded and withdrew a dagger, examining it carefully and observing Solace.

Solace then spread across the blade a thick jelly-like layer of ectoplasm that stuck to the blade and soaked in moments later. The blade took on a hollow glow.

((OOC: Explain the limtations, emote count, and answer any questions they have there. Offer to follow up and answer anymore questions they might have later as well))

Student continued to nod as he watched the spell in action before copying the man and smiling.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

First time I speak w/ them privately if it wasn't malignant or major, review the lore a bit and make sure they understand it. If done on purpose knowingly and/or slyly, it goes straight to the LT to deal with them accordingly.

I've always advocated for a more interesting negative, or change, onto one's character instead of 'dreams'. Alas, the mindset right now is that 'My character knows a lot of alchemy so her mind go heehoo' is a suitable detriment.

(Actual quote from when I tried to bring the topic up btw.)

    hee hoo
