  1. Ser Gustaven von Halsfield would be left scratching his head in absolute confusion after receiving word of the Empire's supposed discovery, "I'm not sure WHO to criticize here: the Empire, for continuing to try and influence the populace through half-arsed propaganda; or, the citizens, for lacking enough intelligence to actually believe anything that comes out of the Empire's mouth."

  2. A spectacularly grandiose dish of beef wellington lays sprawled out across a porcelain plate elegantly, the overall presentation of the meal would reflect an element of sophistication and eloquence; nonetheless, the meal itself had been sitting there for quite awhile now, clearly left uneaten - not even a bite from the dish which appeared tantalizingly good was missing. Seated, staring down at the dish while drumming on the table with a utensil, was Ser Gustaven von Halsfield. Word had reached him moments earlier regarding the recent passing of Bishop Hernando, that of which came as a bit of a surprise to the man - enough of a surprise to cause him to lose his appetite as he was deep in thought while seated at the dinner table, "Bishop Hernando's passing is .. well, unexpected .. I knew him a tad bit, never thought that he would meet the Creator anytime soon. But .. rebels they're led to believe? Well, admittedly I'm left scratching my head: for what reasons would rebels be at fault for all this? Why would rebels consider doing something such as this in the first place? Perhaps those who assume rebels might be at fault are simply misled." With a shrug of his shoulders Gustaven would finally begin to help himself to the dinner which sat in front of him, happily eating away to his heart's content.

  3. ((OOC: I've had quite a few people reach out to me recently inquiring as to whether or not the Resistance is defunct as a result of the Sedanite-Oren conflict ending. It's worth clarifying that while the Resistance was involved against Oren alongside the Goats of Sedan that doesn't inherently imply that we're following in the same footsteps as them, i.e., withdrawing from Oren. The Resistance itself is separate from the Goats of Sedan and we WILL be continuing our efforts against Oren. If you're interested in joining you're still free to do so.))

  4. Ser Gustaven von Halsfield's eyes narrow while reading the General Order, particularly focusing on the middle section. "Traitors found guilty either through witness of an act of treason by an officer or a military tribunal .." he'd say speaking aloud to himself, continuing after briefly pausing, "So, you're telling me that all it takes as this point is for a military officer to simply 'witness' evidence of a supposed crime for it to be considered legitimate and valid? That somebody's guilt is entirely dependent on what a potentially biased military officer has to say?" his mouth would purse "So, if for example the ever-so-respected Major Erik Othaman had unreasonably-based suspicions regarding a certain member of Orenian society .. then all it would take to convict said person is for the Major to simply accuse him of treason?" Gustaven would blink slowly, "Correct me if I'm wrong, for I'm not a grossly incompetent and horrifically biased Ministry of Justice judgebut that doesn't sound like 'justice' to me - that sounds like the abuse of power."

  5. A tear would trickle down from Ser Gustaven von Halsfield's eye, falling off of his face onto a piece of parchment he had been reading from which mentioned the recent passing of Caesar. By the time that Gustaven was finished reading the missive the paper would've been stained with tears. Regardless of the fact that Gustaven and Caesar may have butted heads on numerous occasions, Gustaven knew that Caesar was a "Damn good man - a man who truly knew right from wrong, always making sure to keep himself on the path of Good regardless of the circumstances involved. Our differences aside, Caesar lived as a Good man and resultingly - by happenstance - died as a Good man. May the memory of him live on in our hearts and souls for we need not forget about those like him .. the world is lacking in quantity of those of his caliber. Forgive me, Caesar, for spending more of my life despising you for childish reasons rather than respecting you. I hope that you can understand. Rest in peace, friend." After hearing of Caesar's passing, Gustaven would subsequently spend the remainder of the night much like he would every other night: directionless and lost, dazed and confused .. the alcohol and crippling drug abuse serving as a poor coping mechanism for a broken person. Little by little, those Gustaven would consider "acquaintances" within his life slowly became erased from existence. Seemingly every year somebody that Gustaven knew would pass away. Eventually, Gustaven will suffer the same fate as all of those around him, albeit sooner rather than later in his case, even he knew that.

Rest in peace, Caesar, may your legend live on.

  6. ".. for the safety and well-being of any and all inhabitants of the Holy Orenian Empire .." Ser Gustaven von Halsfield would reread this portion of the missive outloud to himself, a perplexed look across his face, "Hardly convincing. The reality is that they're doing this for the safety and well-being of their ownselves, not those of which they consider beneath them - that being the citizenry. Do those of which that the Empire's recently slaughtered pose any genuine harm or risk to the everyday citizen, much like how the Empire tries to pretend? No. Do the Sedanites, however, pose a threat to the stability of the Empire itself? Surely." he'd shrug his shoulders, letting out a sigh, "Hogwash as usual."

  7. "Oh, the absolute hypocrisy! It's laughable at best how they expect to appeal to the populace with this half-arsed propaganda. Crush the fools who supposedly act as if they're "above" everybody else; are you sure you're not referring to your own selves rather than the Sedanites? The only ones who think of themselves as being above the common folk are the entitled soldiers within the Empire's military, that of which is inarguably true considering the blatant disregard they have for the common folk on a regular day-to-day basis. Hogwash, absolute hogwash!" Ser Gustaven von Halsfield cries out, clearly offended by the subject matter of the poster. Turning his head from side-to-side to scope out the surrounding area to ensure that nobody is paying any attention to him, Gustaven would proceed to lob a rather chunky mouthful of mucus towards the poster in front of him

  8. Lounging about casually within his rented Osanoran room, Ser Gustaven von Halsfield would be delightfully engaging himself in a bit of mid-afternoon "recreational pursuits" as was often dubbed by him - that of which being excessive copious quantities of alcohol consumption coupled with the occasional quarter-dozen cigarettes to compliment the occasion. Quickly he'd arch a brow as a courier passes by Osanora handing out written copies of Countess Ivarielle's declaration.

"Drama in Sutica? Well, it's certainly well-needed, that's for sure! There's hardly much entertainment within their domain, I'm delightfully eager to see how this pans out." He'd declare happily in-between puffs of his Beckham cigarette, a glass of cheap alcohol in his other hand "Let the heads start rolling!"

  9. Ser Gustaven von Halsfield hesitantly reads the notice, a look of great concern across his face. "Outrageous, absolutely outrageous. The Empire is implementing martial law. Soon they'll accuse anyone and everybody of being some type of rebel and execute them right then and there without any sort of trial, let alone proof of their supposed guilt. Oppose the government in any sort of fashion? They'll execute you under the guise that you're a rebel. Voice any criticism against the ISA? Same treatment. Such will be the course of action that will soon follow within the Empire. We must object to such a travesty!"

  10. Ser Gustaven von Halsfield  laughs at news of the recent event, "The Empire prosecuting somebody for a crime without giving them a trial? Ah yes, it's one of their favorite past time activities! Murder. That's what it was, murder; this wasn't a justified death in the slightest."

  11. Ser Gustaven von Halsfield moves his head from side to side while reading the news, visibly disgusted. "Where's the outrage? This is absolute hogwash, another instance of the tyrannical government abusing its powers to limit those that they deem as threats! Soon the Empire will pay for their abuses, that'll be the day."

  13. Ser Gustaven von Halsfield arches a brow while cursorily reading through the missive written by the Father. Midway through the reading he scoffs, by the time that he's finished reading towards the end he's visibly irritated.

"Bah! Corruption within the Empire? What's new! Should we simply sit around and willingly allow such trespasses to continue, or should we finally put our foot down and do something about this injustice! I'm surprised that they only arrested the clergymen involved instead of slaughtering them much as they had done before in the past." he shakes his head, scowling "If this is how they treat their holy men, imagine how they treat their everyday citizen."

  14. Gustaven von Halsfield lies in bed motionlessly, the ongoing chaos brewing within his mind being unwilling to ease enough to allow him the opportunity to sleep. No amount of alcohol consumption would prove to benefit Gustaven much in his attempts to spare himself the mental anguish he had been experiencing, though it certainly didn't mean that attempts hadn't been made; empty bottles lie all over his bedroom, his breath stinking of cheap booze. Next to Gustaven's bed laid a letter, the subject matter pertaining to the death of King Antonio.

"This is all my fault. My hands are stained with the blood of both a holy man and that of a King." the sorrowful being reaches around the table adjacent to his bed in the darkness, trying to feel where the last bottle of liquor was that he had left unfinished from earlier.

"I - I .. I wish I had known in advance that this is what would've came of my actions. I regret them entirely." comments Gustaven as he sighs,

"I will certainly pay for this in the after-life, Creator have mercy on my wretched soul." he quickly downs the remaining liquid from the bedside bottle only to eventually lay back down in his bed. Continuing to stare at the ceiling above him, he eventually passes out from exhaustion.

  15. As the evening approached, the minimal quantities of sunlight that remained peered through the window that Gustaven von Halsfield had situated himself in front of, a gloomy expression across his face. While typically considered to be that of an energetic and upbeat person he would clearly appear to be both physically and mentally drained.

"Did I do the right thing?" he asks himself inquisitively.

"I'm personally held accountable for the events that transpired, I'm who is at fault for such. If I hadn't intervened earlier today and involved myself then none of this would've happened and I wouldn't have a holy man's blood on my hands as a result." he ponders, groaning as he rests his head in his hands.

"Should I be feeling this guilty?"

Gustaven shook his head, withdrawing from his seat in front of the window, "Some things are worth not thinking about. It's water under the bridge at this point. I simply have to accept the fact that it happened and move forward." His words were hardly convincing - not even to his own self.
