Biography (Please make it a decent two paragraphs long. Remember to add server lore, and events that happened to your character so that they don’t contradict history.):
Kate Valfyre was born to Jasper and Amata Valfyre, proud owners of the Fyre Troupe Travelling Circus. Though her mother died in childbirth, Kate had a nurturing and auspicious childhood. Though almost constantly on the move, she was raised with great care by her father and the other members of the circus, spending the majority of her younger years travelling back and forth across the King’s Road, always spending summer in Petrus and winter in Gimblewood. The Fyre troupe visited many towns and villages in between, making regular visits to the capitals in order to make as much money as they could to keep their performances going, though avoiding the other races in times of war. Kate grew up in this environment, and at a young age began participating in the shows herself, first as a small jester, and later - once her father felt she had trained enough - as a talented acrobat.
Though many might have dreamed of joining a circus, and though she enjoyed her performances, Kate found her life of training and travel too strict, wishing to rise from her bed when and where she wanted to. She daydreamed of settling in a singular city, living her days without the strict routines she had known her entire life. It was at this age that Kate’s mental state began to falter. She began obsessing over the possibilities of a life that could’ve been, and even held fast to the delusion that if she were to stay, she might find herself killed by that shifty looking juggler. Nevermind he’d never raised his voice, never mind he seemed to be one of the friendliest men in the troupe. Kate knew he was up to no good. And so, when her father passed away in his sleep (likely due to the stress of the troupe’s recent narrow-avoidance of an orcish warband) , she ‘knew’ without a doubt that it was the juggler that had done it. Sneaking into the man’s tent under the light of a torch, Kate woke him with a knife to his neck, and a clammy hand pressed against his mouth. “This is for my father, hear me?” She spoke softly, cutting the man’s throat. And although his face was filled with fear and confusion, Kate knew he was grinning beneath her hand.
After the death of her father and the poor juggler, Kate left the circus to recover from it’s losses, instead travelling to Godfrey’s peaks with the intention of settling down. Unfortunately, she had failed to think ahead. Despite her impressive contortions and enviable handstands, Kate found that her circus tricks failed to earn her more than a couple of minas a day, and even less once the populace had grown use to her skills. It was shortly after she began starving that she finally disregarded the morals she had been taught, and began using her stealth as a means of petty thievery. Although caught once or twice, she had been incredibly lucky and by the time a couple of years had passed, Kate fancied herself rather adept at her trade. Becoming more and more confident, she began stealing jewellery and satchels, selling them on to earn herself the coin to purchase food.
After spotting a particularly wealthy looking woman, Kate wasted no time in ‘accidentally’ bumping into her, patting the lady’s arm in apology - much to said lady’s disgust. Strolling off happily, she decided to don her newly acquired bracelet. Though she still intended to sell it on, it didn’t hurt to imagine what it would be like to afford such things. As it happened, waving the thing about was a bad idea. As she passed a darkened alley, Kate was dragged backwards, hand across her mouth before she was thrown forward. Managing to secure her balance, she turned to notice two rather large men blocking her exit. “Tha’s a nice bit o’ gold you got there”. The one with the least amount of hair commented, gesturing to the bracelet. “You go’ anymore o’ that about?” Kate took a moment to appreciate the irony that someone was about to steal from her, laughing so hard that she had to clutch at her stomach. This was apparently not the shriek of fear the men had been expecting, and she took the moment to swiftly turn away, managing to find herself half way up a windowsill before they tried - and failed - to grab at her.
Kate now spends her time in Human cities, narrowly avoiding major trouble, and with little concern for her own mental state. She steals where she can and performs honest work when she can’t, all the while under the delusion that she’s a master thief, though she has yet to pull off anything more impressive than a burglary through an open door. Kate remains unstable and volatile, but the cities provide her an opportunity to be bettered (or worsened) by those around her.
Personality Traits:
Chaotic - With little regard for conventional rules and morals, a simple description of Kate would be ‘chaotic’. However, the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of her chaotic lifestyle is much more complex and interesting than this basic trait. Kate has an intense love of the concept of freedom, and is constantly striving to reach her idea of a fulfilled life, and will do this through any means necessary. Through her skewed logic, she feels she is only free when going completely against any and all forms of constraint, not allowing societal norms to dictate her actions.
Obsessive - As a result of Kate’s instability, she’s developed a tendency towards obsessing over people, things, and goals. She then uses these things as a means of defining herself, which for Kate is a very precious thing. She struggles with a nearly constant identity crisis, and obsessing over certain things allows her to tell herself; ‘I am someone who likes this’. These tendencies often end badly for her, for instance obsessing over something she can’t have may result in simply trying to take it, or obsessing over someone who wishes to harm her will mean she’ll let them do exactly that. Luckily these infatuations come few and far between, as she tends to hold on to a few at a time for as long as possible.
Playful - Kate is a passionate person, and despite her shortcomings has a strong appreciation of life and the joy that it can bring. Despite finding joy in some things that might be considered criminal or inappropriate, Kate is almost always jovial, and seemingly carefree, even in situations that would logically result in stress and worry. Beneath her sporadic and sometimes volatile mental state, Kate is by nature a kind and compassionate person, though these traits are rarely exhibited due to the fact that she cannot tell when or where they would be appropriate.
Delusional - Kate will often harbor bizarre delusions that she herself believes to be completely true and without fault. These can vary, but are often regarding her aforementioned obsessions. She can believe wholeheartedly that somebody is in love with her, that somebody wishes to kill her, or that she is being persecuted without reason. She can believe all of these things without a shred of evidence, and even despite evidence to the contrary. These delusions combined with her obsessions make her unstable, but predictable once the delusions have been defined.
Loyal - Despite (and perhaps to some extent because of) Kate’s mental issues, she is incredibly loyal and compassionate towards those she considers friends. Though sometimes she may struggle to understand if they are hurting or in need of assistance, upon realising this she will do her best to support them, even at personal costs to herself. Kate will go out of her way to make sure the people she cares about are safe and getting what they want. Unfortunately, she can sometimes take ‘what they want’ the wrong way, and fight tooth and claw to get something she thinks they might like, but in fact they don’t particularly care about.
Ambitions:
To Live a Fulfilled Life - Although this could be seen as an ambition that everybody holds, Kate takes this to the extreme. The majority of her actions (even those swayed by her mental state) are a result of truly wanting to enjoy life, and find her place in it. This makes Kate a natural optimist despite her situation, and keeps her on her toes looking for the next ‘big adventure’.
Other - Kate’s other ambitions change depending on who or what she is obsessed with at any given time, but can be narrowed down to either; getting something she desperately wants, or helping someone she cares about achieve their own ambitions.
Strengths/Talents:
Athletic - From her childhood to early adulthood, Kate regularly trained as an acrobat for her father’s circus. This has made her flexible, quick-footed, and quite athletic for her size and stature. She uses this to her advantage when participating in thievery, and also makes for a great means of escape (when she has the sense enough to make a hasty exit). However, her athletic nature also plays into her idea of adventure, oftentimes climbing as high as she can on buildings and trees merely as a form of childlike entertainment.
Intuitive - While her obsessions and delusions blind her in certain instances, and though she has a tendency to present herself as an idiot, Kate actually has a great deal of common sense. Though unable to read and write, Kate has incredible decision making skills and intuition, and could to some degree be considered smart. Unfortunately for her this is often buried beneath the layers of crazy, and even when she can tell something is the worst option, she may delude herself into thinking it best, or simply not care as to the outcome.
Humour - Even in the worst of circumstances, Kate can always hold on to a sense of optimism and humour. Though usually inappropriate and can sometimes result in more trouble than it’s worth, Kate has a penchant for finding the brighter side of things. This can lighten the mood in certain circumstances, but at all times it makes Kate somewhat unpredictable. Even in a dangerous situation, Kate will find happiness and be overjoyed to be there. Although this could lead to potentially negative consequences, it does at the very least make Kate herself happy, and when appropriate can amuse those around her.
Weaknesses/Inabilities:
Mental Health - Obsessive, delusional, and all around skewed; Kate’s mental health is not only damaging to her character, but also to her physical well being. Stemming from a chemical imbalance in her mind, Kate suffers from a number of psychological conditions, which would likely get her institutionalised in a modern setting. As it is, Kate is almost constantly at risk from some sort of trouble, usually something she has walked into herself. Between her obsession with abusive leaders and amusement at anything that seems vaguely threatening, Kate would be better off staying inside.
Weak - Kate really only has enough strength to hold herself up, and being rather small, this is not much. Despite her athleticism Kate could be considered quite weak. Though stronger than the average peasant and her hits would certainly bruise a little, Kate would have little advantage in combat other than her stealth. This means she would likely not be able to wear anything more than leather armour, and would struggle to swing particularly heavy swords. It also somewhat negatively impacts her choice of jobs, since any form of hard labour is practically out of the question.
Chaotic, Obsessive, Delusional - Several of Kate’s personality traits can be considered rather large weaknesses, and can be found above.
