  1. What is your Minecraft Account Name? Murdervish

Do you have a Discord account?  You got it

How long have you played on LotC? This is year two or three.

How many hours per day/week are you available? Let's say 20/week

What lore do you hold the most experience with?

Mental magic, cognatism, electric evocation, current Necromancy and updates (we'll see about how that holds up, considering), undead things, the shelved soul puppetry (for all that's worth)

Do you have a solid grasp on the existing lore of our server? Would you be comfortable moderating it in-game?

Pretty solid for what I've read and dealt with, and I already warn people when they're breaking lore more than is probably healthy.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?: Electric Evocation

Summarise the Lore of this magic(s): An electric evocationist summons lightning and electricity from the Void. There are three basic "spells" that they can utilize: Bolts, Spark Streams, and Calldowns. Bolts are first learned at tier 2 and generally take 4 emotes, though more can be done if the bolt is for a long distance or particularly strong. Spark streams are continuous streams of electrical sparks that may be used to burn multiple targets, and are used starting at tier 3 with 5 emotes being needed. Calldowns are a lightning strike from the sky that may be learned and used at tier 4, (though usually inaccurate until tier 5) and causing death on direct hit, needing 6 emotes to cast.

Electrical bolts have a natural attraction to gold or iron and may be directed from intended targets to those metals (if there are more than 3 blocks of either arranged in a continuous line within 15 blocks, shocks are attracted to them instead). They require line of sight to cast and cannot be cast through iron bars. Mages must also keep in mind the distance from themselves and/or the distance between two points for where the lightning strikes or arcs as greater distances are more difficult. More bolts at once also tend to decrease the power of each new spark or bolt.

Write up a lesson that your character would give to a student:

An elven girl fidgits in her seat in front of the skeleton. The skeleton remains standing before her, not needing to take a seat, and not caring about her pupil's discomfort.

The skeleton's voice sounds disconnected, resonating in its skull. "Are you ready?"

"Yes," she lies. The skeleton knows this, but proceeds anyway to raise a bony hand and it's head cricks harshly to one side, disks giving pops in the neck from the violent action.

Sparks of light appear between the skeleton's fingers, casting thin, long shadows from the exposed metacarpels that spin out in short bursts. These shadows gradually become more and more steady in their appearance, though "fuzzy" with the thrumming energy of the light being emitted to create them.

The girl watches with dread and fascination written plainly upon her face, trying to examine the sparks, trying to wrap her mind around how this can be evoked from the very Void she's become adept in connecting to.

The hand, lightning now leaping with electricity, points at her, and the girl feels the impact before she sees the light arching towards her. It comes not like a fire-tingle of her nerves from point to fingertips as she expected. It feels like a punch to her chest, and she feels the air forced out of her as she stumbles backwards in her seat, bewildered even as she was expecting this.

The lich's hand lowers to her side. "Did you feel that?" she asks unnecessarily.

"Uhhh..." the elf answers, pulling herself up with wide eyes, wanting to shoot a glare at her teacher for the sarcasm but unwilling to see where the disobedience might lead. "That was... not what I expected."

"It was but a short bolt; it's important to remember how it feels for later. Let's try again."

What magic(s) will you be teaching?: Mental Magic

Summarise the Lore of this magic(s): A mental mage can read and manipulate minds through the Void. If they are able to see their subject, they can seek their minds and attempt to meld with the mind of the subject, though they may be stopped or slowed by a ward or mental barrier. If the mage is of sufficient experience, they can enter the mind undetected, though a newer mental mage will let out leaks of their own mind and emotions as they seek to meld with the subject that are harder to hide. Once conencted, they can freely view current thoughts and feelings of the subject. They may also, in this state, perform telepathy and more advanced powers. Mental illusions can also be employed, which work much like sensory illusion in that the senses of the subject can be directly affected, and can induce emotions upon the subject as well. These induced illusions and emotions can be used to provoke memories. To get especially deep, the mage may induce "diversion of consciousness", which is a dreamlike state to make the subject completely open to mental magic and allow deep probing of their memories, emotions, and can allow them to edit and remove memories, or even reclaim lost memories.

There are a number of redlines to the powers. The subject must be in sight and not an illusion to be able to find their mind in the Void. Mental mages expose themselves to retaliation of the mind they're connected to if the subject is capable of doing so (i.e. also mental mages). Mental barriers may be used to keep information from being divulged, but they may be broken, and barriers do not prevent illusions or Diversion of Consciousness. Mental illusions must fall in the spectrum of being believable and may chance being broken by unbelievable stimuli presented or if the subject is apt at finding such illusions. Diversion of Consciousness takes great concentration and cannot be done during active combat. Memories can be removed or edited within 30 minutes without consent, but require consent if any longer than that. Restoring memories also require consent and must be done within 7 days of removal if removed with Mental Magic. Mental wards halt mental magic, but the ward may be broken by repeated attempts to reach to the mind. Doing so drains from the mage's mana supply, though the more powerful the mage, the less effort it takes to break some wards.

Write up a lesson that your character would give to a student:

Ghoruub brings more noise than usual she enters the stone chamber, luckily unable to breath in the air of stale incense over incessant mold and rot that hangs thick in the entire complex.

"Can you connect to the Void well?"

The smaller skeleton in the room, it's large, white canines glistening under the dull light from the torches, nods. "It's been a long week. It's hard to tell when I'm out of mana."

"In your state, starting from the beginning as you are, that will be such," she says, and comes to stand before the other lich, pulling up before them the source of the extra noise: a freightened snow hare, held by one leg in her bony grasp as it thrashes.

"That's... not really what I expected. I thought you'd be..." He gives a vague gesture towards Ghoruub.

"We'd be a poor first subject," she says, letting the "we" hang heavy to innotate her reasoning. "And animals have minds. Much stranger minds--alien, even-- but much easier to enter without danger or trouble. My teacher had started me not too differently from this."

"Was the animal fearing for it's life as this one?"

"No. It'd already come to terms with it's death." The lich brings it into both hands, one running down its back in an attempt to soothe it. The relentless, digging grasp of the other hand into its twitching fur indicates it's not working.

"Well, what am I to do? It'd be too easy to tell it's scared, isn't it?"

"Then it follows the lesson comes with that assumption, yes? You're going to connect with its mind to find out where it intends to run when I let go. And then... you catch it."

  8. Haria lacks competent leadership (as most/all have left, largely to go back to their own lives) and any sort of framing to it that makes it an interesting place to roleplay and not just a giant, sandstone meme in the middle of a manufactured desert.

A lot of the community tends to make branches and forget or lose what makes their branch unique and offer something to the server. Haria is one of those branches that forgot. This is what I mean by "framing"; where you might expect, say, Geoffrey Chaucer to (ideally) tell the stories of Orenners or the Brothers Grimm to tell some of the higher-fantasy stuff, the Qalasheen would see their stories told by the likes of Scheherazade. It should still be fantasy, but a different fantasy with a different flavor.

    Creator's MC Name: _Drak3_ , Orsul , FlyingHalfMast

Creator's RP Name: Vex , Orsul , Selrik

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

These creatures of bone have become powerful mages among their undead kin, with (largely) independent lives and goals. They are capable of using and learning magic and, though their mana pool isn't necessarily extended, they do not feel fatigue from mana expenditure (though that lack of feeling can cause trouble for younger liches, finding their magic suddenly fizzling), and also have a minor life drain in order to feed lifeforce to themselves. As bones, they are fairly fragile, but do not feel physical pain save for what gold and holy magic inflicts. Crushing the skull may demanifest them, though simply removing the skull would only make the other bones collapse and give you a Morty talking skull. They are also weak to lifedrain inflicted upon them, and loss of their phylactery can spell possible doom that they would attempt to avoid by all means possible, as the item contains their soul.

  10. Your new grinding plugin eats buckets when you do any chef craft that uses buckets, at a rate of one bucket per "batch" (so, if you have an inventory full of buckets and shift craft, you can lose only one, but if you try to just make single things, you're out a very expensive piece of equipment, made more expensive now since they cost 3 iron to make and now give no xp). I've lost at this point 30 buckets.

    Transformed form: Ghoul

    Creator's MC Name: Parkins

    Creator's RP Name: Gravelord Adremeich

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature: The soulless, undead body with their "second-second chance" at continuing their existence, the ghoul is a creature that which subsists on lifeforce to survive. Their shadow souls and bodies ruined by death and decay may be damaged and certainly not work with the knowing fluidity of their prior selves, but they work without the pain and fatigue of Life, making them paradoxically more resilient to the feelings that slow down a mortal, yet, in pure structure, they are more fragile beings. They are hollow shells of their past lives, unable to remember many things and slow to think. They will physically and mentally degrade without feeding on lifeforce. An exception to the painlessness of undeath in combat is when gold is used, which can cause great pain to them, and holy magic can do massive damage to them as well.

  13. I used up my rep for today giving it out in this thread, because I'm very glad so many of you are taking this seriously.

This is an important issue, and it's not something you can simply ignore if you're not an American; any service you use that has to deal with an American ISP at any point will be affected negatively. The internet is a broad, international community, but it has a lot of heft in the USA, and all of the companies who are pushing these measures have their influences in more than one continent.

You should all stay vigilant on these attacks by telecomm companies and do everything you can when it's necessary, because they are not going to back down and are hoping they can just wait you and your outrage out. Support and continue to support upholding net neutrality.

Here is the key to be a psychopath. LOSE! LOSE! LOSE! All you have to do is act crazy, and LOSE! That’s it!

ᵐᵒᵒ This isn't the key to being a psychopath so much as the key to playing a largely inconsequential character whose only purpose is to move the plot along. Honestly, most of the advice feels like you're making tips for disposable ET characters rather than player characters. A psychopath doesn't just "act crazy and lose"; it's beyond me why you'd play someone that was so arrested by their disorder that they can't even function in life. If it's just a character you have on the side because you're bored, that's nice I guess, but that seems like a terribly dull character to play after like three encounters.
