    Almaris School of Medicine is an organization created to spread the teachings of mundane medicine to any and all who would seek to learn. The School specializes in all Physical and Mental ailments, treating any patients with scientifically researched methods. Methods used come from all cultures and regions, and are improved upon by merging studies and notes from innovative scientists and doctors. ASM constantly does research on how to better handle all physical and mental ailments that may affect patients from any walk of life. Those who seek to become students need only to apply, with free lodgings and no tuition needed. The Sick or injured are welcomed to the school, and will be given the best treatments at no price, all while allowing the next generation of doctors and nurses to learn. Licenses are issued upon the completion of one's study in their chosen field of medicine. 

     


     

    Teachers & Classes

     

    In order to better allow students to learn, ASM assigns all students to an approved teacher. This teacher will hold private one on one lessons with their small class of students, and are in charge of assessing their progress. It is the duty of the teacher to ensure all  core lessons are taught and understood by the student. Throughout their studies, students will have the option to attend group lessons, where another teacher gives a lecture, takes the class on a trip, or has the students do an activity. While these activities are optional, they can speed up the process of graduating.

    Doctor’s Oath

     

    Upon completing their studies at the ASM all Physicians are required to make the Doctoral Oath. The Oath is upheld at the Institution, and breaking of the oath can result in one being removed from the program and/or the revoking of one’s medical license. 

     

    “I swear by all the gods and goddesses making them my witnesses, that I will fulfil according to my ability and judgment this oath and this covenant: [ALT. I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:],

     

    I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.

     

    I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art.

     

    Whatever houses I may visit, I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all intentional injustice.

     

    What I may see or hear in the course of the treatment or even outside of the treatment in regard to the life of men, which on no account one must spread abroad, I will

    keep to myself, holding such things shameful to be spoken about.

    Institution Code of Conduct

     

    I. The Doctor’s Oath must be upheld.
    II. Malicious behavior (i.e provoking a fight, harassment) are not permitted and will cause the offender to be removed.
    III. Discrimination on the basis of one’s identity will not be permitted. This applies to students, and to patients.
    IV. Magic may only be used if directly assisting a patient. Flaunting magic, be it Voidal, Druidic, or Holy, is not permitted. Dark Magic, and the usage thereof, is not permitted at all.
    V. The ASM is a neutral organization, and will not take part in any conflict or war. Licensed Medics and their actions do not reflect on the institution. 
    VI. Any damages to the AMS will result in a fine. If you avoid paying the fine, we will personally come to retrieve it.
    VII. No entering the Laboratory without proper clearance.
    VIII. No theft of property. This includes Medics belongings, and the patient’s belongings.
    IX. If you start a fight, we will end it.
    X. Do not give out medicine to those who seek to misuse it.

     


     

    Roles & Positions

     

    Head Medic
    Cecil Lorenthus

    The current organizer of the organization. They are in charge of organizing group lessons, running licensing exams, awarding licenses, hiring staff, and assigning students to teachers. In the event of the Head Medic resigning a new Head Medic is elected by licensed Medics.

     

    Teachers
    Sana Medii’la

    Instructors to the students. Teachers are assigned a small class that they instruct one on one, and have access to all amenities the School can offer. They may opt in to give group lessons. All Teachers' needs are provided for and they may have a room on the premises. 

     

    Researchers 
    N/A

    Those who seek to do medical research. They are given a space to perform their experiments, and are given a small sum to run them yearly. Students and/or others may offer to be experimented upon for a stipend. Researchers are required to follow the Doctoral Oath.

     

    Licensed Medics 

    Those who have taken the ASM exams and have been awarded their license(s). These Medics will have the option to be employed by the ASM, and will have a stake in the running of the School.

     

    Students

    Students  come from all races and nations, united by the desire to learn medicine. They have yet to pass their Certification Exam, and are actively being taught by a teacher. Anyone 13+ can apply to become a Student.

    The Fiyenmonn’Khell - or Ichorian Seers as they are known in the common tongue spoken most widespread by the denizens of Almaris, are the sect of seers embedded within the Ichorian Path. While not traditional ‘seers’ they use their talents to advise their fellow Ichorians.

    To walk the path of Fiyemonn’Khell is to walk one of extreme sacrifice. Born from the desire to better connect to the Balance: the exact foundation of the Ichorian Seers remains, like much of Elven History, a mystery. Considering the lack of written records, most of what is known in their history has been passed down through word of mouth. 

     

    Centuries ago, the Practitioners of Fiyemonn’Khell lived in solitude. They practiced across the continent, though meetings would occur infrequently in locations only ever used once. 

     

    There were two unofficial sects of these practitioners, the Left and Right Path. The difference between the two is vague and changed depending on whose word was being taken. Each side claimed the other to be villainous in their rituals and worship. The Truth to these claims cannot be validated as all of the original members of the two paths long since faded in time.

     

    A Massacre was committed against the practitioners which resulted in only one being spared from each path. The two were drafted into the military of those that destroyed them. 

     

    Two Centuries later, only one true-blooded practitioner remains. Traversing from his home to the mainland of Almarris, the Fiyemonn’Khell were reborn.

    Fiyemonn’Vihai
    The Leader of the Fiyemonn’Khell. They are in charge of organizing events/rites/rituals for the group. In addition, they are able to hold the Rites all Seekers are required to take.

     

    Fiyemonn’Vallum
    Second in command, outside of the Vihai they are the only ones who can lead a Seeker through the Fiyemonn’Khell Rites. At times, they are tasked to organize rituals, but may not lead in them.

     

    Fiyemonn’Khell
    Fully Oathed members of the Fiyemonn’Khell share the name of the organization. They are to partake in rituals, and can request them be done, but may not organize them.

     

    Fiyemonn’Seeker
    The  Seekers of the Path are those interested in the ways of the Practice. They do not need to be Druids, but must be on the path of dedicancy within the Ichorian Faith.

    A Fiyemonn’Khell must pluck their eyes from their skull or otherwise blind themselves. These eyes are not your own, but the Aspects.

    Trial of Balance


    One of the Duties of the Fiyemonn’Khell is to mentor and advise their fellow Ichorians during times of strife. In order to gauge if the Seeker is able to keep their own prejudices out of their judgement, they will undergo a flurry of questions. If the Seeker’s answers are to the satisfaction of their teacher they pass the trial.

     

    Trial of Sight


    The Seeker must accurately read one of their fellow Ichorians using tools of their choice. They may use Fate Cards, Runes, Palms, etc. As long as they correctly predict the past of the Ichorian in question they pass. If the Seeker fails they must spend three Elven days studying their tools and meditating. They may retake the trial afterwards.

     

    Trial of Promise


    As the last Fiyemonn’Khell trial, the Seeker must pluck out their eyes or otherwise blind themselves. This does not need to be a permanent disfigurement as long as a thick cloth covers their eyes from then on. Removing this cloth will only be done in front of partners, and is a sign of dedication. Taking this cloth off in front of anyone else is a sign of breaking their promise to the Fiyemonn’Khel.

    Balance

     

    The Ritual of Balance is undergone every Three Elven Weeks in order to detect the current status of the Balance. The Ritual requires at minimum of two Fiyemonn’Khell to be performed. The ritual is held around a man-made Fae Ring (aka planted Mushrooms, with no ties to the Fae realm and no magic) in a clearing. 

    Each Member partaking in the rite must use a bone dagger to slice through their palm, dribbling the blood into the center of the ring. This act shows the Aspects of the willingness to sacrifice to the balance. 

     

    Shortly after, a bowl filled with hallucinogenic mushrooms is spread to each participant, where they take two of the mushrooms and eat them. This shows the Aspects that the Fiyemonn’Khell are attempting to become one with nature.

     

    While waiting for the Hallucinogens to draw an effect within each member participating in the rite, the gathered must utter a prayer to the Aspects aloud. This varies from each participant and may be whatever length desired.

     

    When the final prayer is uttered, the mushrooms will have kicked in. Inside of the ring will tell the fate of the balance. Good or bad must be deciphered by those holding the ritual. All participants must wait until the drugs wear off, where they then return to their lands to speak and interpret what they saw.

     

    Restoration

     

    Usually held a few Elven Days after the Ritual of Balance, the Ritual of Restoration is done immediately upon seeing that the Balance is compromised in any way. Restoration is treated as a funeral - of a failing. It is done only when the Ichorians, and by proxy the Fiyemonn’Khel, fail in their duties. The Restoration Ritual is the only one which allows outsiders (i.e other Ichorians) to be involved. Three people at minimum are required to participate.

     

    The Ritual takes place in a dimly lit cave or cavern. A circle is painted on the ground using the participants willingly offered blood. The following is then uttered by those taking part, spoken out loud three times.

     

    “Mother and Father, we plead to you this day,
    Forgive our error, and let us repay,
    With this offering we bear our souls,
    Allow us to restore the Balance we stole.”

     

    Upon completion, a preselected and willing participant steps into the circle. They take a specially crafted bone Dagger and remove a part of their body. This can be a finger or an ear, or something bigger if the Balance is too out of balance. This object may be regrown/healed once the Ritual is completed.

     

    Following the sacrifice, the above rite is repeated until the willing sacrifice passes out from blood loss. At that point, the other Participants pull out the sacrifice and give them medical attention. The ritual is deemed as complete after this, and the body part is then given to Fiyemonn’Vihai to be disposed of at their discretion. 

    After the Ritual’s completion, the Balance Ritual is again held within an Elven Week. Repeat until the Balance has righted itself.

     

    Blessing of Marriage

     

    The Union between two is always a happy thing. This Blessing is done shortly before a marriage. Those to be wedded do not need to take part in the Ritual. Usually done for relatives, the Ritual of Marriage requires at least two to take part.

     

    Much simpler than the other rites, all that is needed is a fire. Sage Incense is to be burnt, and the names of those to be wedded are written on a piece of paper. Together, all participants utter the following thrice.

     

    “Through Life till Death,
    Glory and Defeat,
    [Names] will remain strong throughout,
    And the Fires of their emotions will burn on,
    Forevermore.”

     

    The Paper is then thrown into the fire. All participants must remain quiet till the paper turns to ash, thereafter the ritual is completed.

    “I think the real trial is leaving you for a year.” The Seer would say sleepily, curled up against the side of his mate. 

    Lysanthir only hummed in response, thin fingers running through Cecil’s hair. He paused for a moment and allowed his hand to lace with Cecil’s own, giving a small squeeze. “It will be fine.” The Elf says in a low rumble.


    Cecil responded with a small noise in the back of his throat, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with his mate’s words.

    Cecil immediately began to regret his decision. He let out a small wheeze as he collapsed backwards against a tree, silently praying that whatever had been chasing him would scurry on. The ‘Ame let out a small breath, attempting to regulate his breathing. There was a ‘thunk’ as his head hit the back of the tree, ears twitching as the sounds of the forest began to grow louder.

    Day 6, Month 1

     

    To say he was starving would be an understatement. Cecil had found a small river to set camp up by, but he had yet to catch anything from it. Ignoring the weakness in his arms and the rumble in his gut, the ‘ame was nearly done with the makeshift wooden spear in his lap. Placing his sharpening rock to the side, his hand curls around the stick. Grinning widely, he rises smoothly - approaching the river.

     

    He would be eating tonight.

    Month 2

     

    If asked later on, Cecil would have said the second month was the most difficult. The ‘ame was unaccustomed to the silence, the loneliness that came with complete solitude. For the first time in many moons he was completely and wholly alone with only his thoughts to keep him company. Outside of hunts and short breaks to get water, he remained mostly in the makeshift hut he had assembled with loose branches and twigs.

    Month 3

     

    When the third month rolled around, Cecil had come to rely wholly on Amura. The massive vulture took it’s time to find out where it’s master resided, but refused to leave after it landed on his makeshift hut. Amura would loudly demand his attention when his thoughts strayed too far, keeping his sanity and wellbeing in check. Although she could hunt fine on her own, he made it a point to fetch an extra rabbit or fish for her.

    Month 4

     

    It was in the middle of his fourth month of the trial did everything truly go belly-side up. When asked, Cecil would have no clue how it happened, just that he had been in the middle of a hunt. One moment he was rushing towards a rabbit and the next he found himself on his back with nothing but black filling his vision. Despite the panic that filled his veins - he managed to assemble a crown of bramble and vines to then wear around his eyes, granting vision once more. This time, however, Cecil ensured it would be more difficult to remove.

    “Get the goods, we only need the furs. Leave everythin’ else.” Hissed a Human man, completely oblivious to the ‘Ame crouched in the nearby bushes. 

     

    Cecil’s knuckles went white, clutching the spear at his side. Anger, red and hot ignited in his veins. Without the thought he would normally wield, he sprung forward - spear arcing dangerously in an unwieldy manner. He wouldn’t be able to beat them, but Aspects, he could at least scare them off.

    Month 6

     

    The Sixth Month was one of healing and contemplation. Rewarded from a new scar on his side from his behavior the previous month, Cecil spent most of the Sixth high with fever from the poorly treated wound. Cecil’s reserve of food and water went quickly. He spent days delirious, pleading for someone - Lysanthir, Quillian, Hareven, to come - to speak with him after months of silence. Amura attempted to aid in what little way she could, fetching small animals and attempting to feed her companion. 

     

    When the fever finally broke, Cecil was on the cusp of starvation. Only the blessing of the Aspects allowed my survival, He thought.

    Month 7


    Despite the near conclusion of the Trial, Cecil resumed the near daily routine. There was a calmness to the man as he worked throughout the day, filling his time with wood carving and daydreams. It wasn’t until mid-way into the month that it dawned on him that his trial was nearing its end. 

     

    The rest of the month was spent in silent celebration. His cheeks ached from smiling so much, but that did not deter him. From then on, his time was spent working on a single piece. Made from collected vines, sticks, branches, and thorns - Cecil was content with his creation.

    Arriving at the agreed upon meeting spot was surreal. Cecil was several days early, as he was unaware of the exact date of the end of the Trial, but that did not keep his attitude in check. 

     

    It wasn’t the dawn that rose him form his slumber, but two firm hands on his shoulder. Gasping, he fung himself into the chest of his partner, clinging to Lysanthir as if the other would vanish should he not hold him down.

     

    “Mayilu,” He breathed out, voice raw and hoarse from disuse. 

     

    Finally, it was over.

    The Deck of Fate is a deck of cards used by Seers and Diviners to connect with the energies of their surroundings and answer questions, see the future, and connect with energies around them. Of course, the legitimacy of the cards are entirely up for debate - but that does not stop those that use them. The deck is made up of 78 cards, each representing something both in the upright and in the reverse.

  16. Cloverwood Family

    History

     

    Never the biggest, brightest, or oldest, the Cloverwood family was born when it’s founder, a man known only as Mr. Cloverwood, was estranged from his family. After this estrangement he found himself quick to marry a Proper Halfling woman who lived on her family’s farm. Ms. Cloverwood was a skilled farmer, harvesting their goods and allowing Mr. Cloverwood to turn it into a variety of drinks, jams, soaps, and so on. They were a formidable pair, and were sickeningly in love. Together they have numerous children. Said children adopted the humble life of their parents and continued to aid them on the family farm.

     

    Unbeknownst to the family, Mr. Cloverwood had a secret. Once a year he travelled into the village to trade the family’s wares. This, however, was a front. When he visited the village, he was secretly meeting with a woman known as “Ms. Tippens”. Their affair was long lasting, and resulted in a son. Ms. Tippens fledged shortly after her son’s birth, leaving him with Mr. Cloverwood.

     

    Mr. Cloverwood claimed the child to be his ‘sister's son’ and was adopted into the family. Life was peaceful for over a decade, before the truth was revealed when Ms. Tippens stood on their doorstep demanding food. Mrs. Cloverwood immediately demanded her husband leave, and began the proceedings of divorce.

     

    Unfortunately, this turned messy. Every day was met with shouting, demanding their children take sides, and items being destroyed or thrown at each other. 

     

    Fed up, the eldest of the bunch, Maple Cloverwood, took their siblings and began to make the move to the village.

     

     


     

    Appearance

     

    Cloverwoods tend to have tanned to dark skin, with the exception of those descended from Ms. Tippens who have fair skin. Most of the family have dark reddish-brown eyes and ginger or brownish hair. As a rule, most of the family have the build of farmers and craftsmen. Bulky (for a Halfling, anyway). Heights of the Cloverwoods range between 2’3-3ft, with some going above or beneath depending on the Halfling.
