    Redmont

Redmont is a smoldering landscape in stark contrast to the frozen wastes of the Ailmere it is tucked behind. Volcanic heights with sprawling lakes of magma decorate its north with massive archways and formations of stone that indicate an unnatural phenomenon. Great pillars and cavernous entrances lead into the labyrinth hidden within, and ruins of what once was can be encountered. At the foot of the volcano once was a sprawling forest whose flora and fauna were stripped in a blaze leaving only a Burnt Forest, hot pools of melted snow scattering the grounds.

    The Furnace

In those ancient days when the Spire was still a prosperous metropolis, the Bohra discovered hidden beneath the volcanic peaks of the Redmont a labyrinthine cavern system with a great magical stone at its center in a lake of magma, with heat even more intense than that of the surface. The Bohra empire at its peak was distinguished with sorcerers and artificers who were unable to discern the meaning and origins of the stone, though still they sought to use its great power. They erected about it a construction called the Red Ring which through their enchantments made the volcanic cavern habitable and harnessed that intense magical heat instead for an elaborate workshop. Thus the great cavern system was turned into a Furnace and named so. Eventually the Bohra Empire would fall to a catastrophe, diminishing violently from the realm of Aevos. Over the course of centuries, the Furnace fell into disrepair and ruin. During the catastrophe, many of the tunnels overloaded and collapsed or imploded on themselves, though certain tunnels remained mostly intact, albeit very unstable.

Centuries later a dwarf sorceress and Runelord named Ynna would arrive in Aevos with a host of dwarven refugees and kindred. They hailed from the Halls of Urguan, cave dwarves of the truest variety who had not known the surface world beyond the tales from their other kin. They had fled the onset of the dwarven Blood Age, where one clan began to assume total totalitarian control of the mountainhome and its guilds, especially that of the Runesmiths. Ynna and her host had come for the Furnace, and set about reconstructing the Red Ring to the best of their abilities. It required runic equipment and incredible effort to send dwarves in to repair the dilapidated construction and withstand the heat.

The Red Ring and the broader Furnace’s main quality in both its peak during Bohra control and the later diminished dwarven era was not just tapping into the energy of the sealed stone for a single purpose but production of an enchanted fuel which was then able to be used to make special alloys and bolster the artifice both magical and mundane of the workshop. The most notable and widespread production was that of an enchanted metal called by the dwarves Kharvul Steel, used in their enchantments to retain more mana and alloyed with other rare metals. With the restoration of the Red Ring, they were not able to make the metal to the same pure qualities as their Bohra predecessors, but a more diluted version.

    The Eight Gates

Even in its depleted state, the Furnace was still able to be used by the dwarves to create powerful relics, and Ynna had a purpose to risk her kin in its rekindling. Using sorcery and runecraft bolstered by the Furnace, Ynna began the construction of eight great runic seals to be placed across Aevos for some greater scheme, but such would take many years of effort. As they continued to operate the Furnace, Ynna ordered her kindred to begin to make preparations to secure footings across Aevos.

Ynna’s dwarves would begin the construction of dwarven deep-roads, encountering the remnants of Bohra pathways and structures as they spread across the depths of Aevos. Frequently, they would set up outposts and holds in prospective locations of great wealth or in strategic positions which were important to defend their deep-roads. It was not uncommon to face conflict with the occasional band of Mori’quessir, specters, goblins and other forgotten beasts which hid beneath the earth.

With her enchantments completed and her kin settling in small outposts across Aevos, Ynna constructed Eight Gates and sought to establish a dwarven presence over each to ensure their maintenance, however the folk were spread too thin. The dwarves began to be overwhelmed by their foes beneath the earth, and soon their civilization fell to disrepair, Ynna herself disappearing. Little more than ruins remain of their infrastructure, and what remnants of the kin survived the collapse scattered and hid beneath Aevos committed themselves to fulfilling the purpose of the Eight Gates; “Atta Edhekalmar” in their ancient tongue.

    OOC Information:

Redmont is a maplore piece to offer resources for Story Team actors and players to build off of, as well as offering a greater story behind the typical ashlands aesthetic. It’s a consistent theme that dwarven ruins are scattered across maps, part of this Lore’s purpose is to offer an excuse to that as well lay a foundation of Deeproads events that both players and ET could explore. The story of the Furnace, Ynna and her Eight Gates will be developed by eventlines that will open up more of the lore to be used.

  2. The line to be drawn, in my opinion, is as simple as if you would feel that the Roleplay is uncomfortable if it was between a 18yo and a 14yo OOCly then it shouldn't be on the server because that's often enough the situation.

Another way of wording that is against Intimate Romance RP. Anything more than a peck on the cheek should be disallowed, and even intimate conversations I think ought be put to scrutiny. Relationships are obviously a big part of Character Roleplay, but you don't need to delve into many details to get the aesthetic/narrative of a Relationship.

Taking it to another medium should also be seriously bannable 100%

  3. A courier arrives from to the pit-town and tells the news to the Raevir count. He waves over his betrothed, and some nearby levies. They discuss plans to visit the Failor Feast. "It will be good to meet with Arnaud e tell him our progress," Markus remarks optimistically.@milkyi

  4. Markus Marie smiles after a successful crusade, his oaths to the Crossed Claw Band and Redclyf fulfilled. He returns home to his summit camp and approached his betrothed. "I have achieved glory for Godanistan- I am ready to leave Failor."

Many years ago the hosts of Redclyf were without home, and would frequent the streets of Velec. They participated in the Trophies of Aldersberg, hunting great beasts of Almaris together. However, it was quickly revealed by other frequent visitors of Velec- Hunters from the Band of the Crossed Claw- as well as members of Redclyf itself that there were dishonorable brigands among the ranks of Redclyf, notably one Adaranth of Redclyf. He had participated in the assailing of members of the Band of the Crossed Claw without provocation, as well the assault of members of Redclyf.

Markus Marie Sarkozic hosted representatives of this ordeal in the palace of Adria, acting as Count of Aldersberg and a virtuous Canonist to ensure a just resolution of the conflict at the request of both those wronged among the Band of the Crossed Claw as well as the leader of Redclyf; Pyeter. Pyeter had been witness to the dishonorable acts of Adaranth, and requested Markus’ aid to arrest him. However, upon discussion Pyeter made it clear he did not want Adaranth to face consequences until he had gotten more out of Adaranth in political favors regarding their vassalization to Petra. Pyeter quickly refused to allow the Count of Aldersberg to settle the dispute, insisting that he would deal with it himself and promising justice for Adaranth.

Pyeter of Redclyf was warned to settle the dispute. To this day, Pyeter has refused to ensure the virtue of his people and keep his promise; failure as a leader. This spurred me to action, and the levy of Aldersberg would prepare to confront Pyeter on this matter. During this time they have escalated their wrongdoing, acting not only as rampant brigands but even stooping to the level of lunatics, enacting godless atrocities upon the Wee Folk of Failor, and erecting heads on spikes before their gates.

Adaranth- your own people do not protect you, but only seek to use you to their advantage. Turn yourself into the host of Aldersberg and you will be given a trial. Resist our arrest and you shall be crucified.

Pyeter- you cannot outmatch the righteous fury of any single party which has declared their fury with you, much less all of them working together. Turn yourself in for a swift and honorable end.

To the leaders of Petra, I encourage you to rebuke your vassal who has acted in bloodlust and atrocity.

Let it be known that those of Aldersberg shall rally to the aid of the Loyal, Good, Brave, Triumphant and Qualified peoples of Failor against the brigands of Redclyf, especially for the capture of Pyeter and Adaranth to finally ensure the justice of Godanistan.

  6. not a fan of how people are getting so smug about a disagreement. I think better question is why did they make the entire server an Anarchy server then be surprised PvPers started killing everyone?

Imma be real I would probably be defending the people PvPIng if their response to people complaining wasn't just "cope"

cmon guys be mature the whole telling people to cope and seethe sh*t is meant to be ironic lmfao

  7. I do think it's funny as it seems people almost want to be upset at Staff and assume the worst. Why not just ask if they are sure they had specific permission beyond paying $5 if you're concerned about it than assume they didn't and argue.

I'm v disappointed in people's ability to critically think and ask questions, including my own.

If you have any questions/concerns about how this was handled, then ask for the specifics and observe the answer; THEN make conclusions.

  8. As he often does, the Count of Aldersberg contemplates the Tapestry of Man with Oksana. He recalls the long history of principled Raevir stock and the many saints whose legacy he sought to honor. "It is of great importance that if we are to do anything, we are to do it in virtue. It'd be a disgrace to the legacy of SIgismund to do anything else."

    The Tobias Summons

    17th of Harren’s Folly, 1923

    screenshot-1682896464881.png

It was in the realm of Anthos from the prosperous city of Aldersberg that Szent Tobias, born Toveah Goldman, created his bounty; a wealth so vast that it is forever immortalized in the final months of the year. It is this same sense of industry that the ancient city of Aldersberg was known for that must be channeled in this time of crisis.

Many of the cities across the realm have been sieged and sacked by the Mori’Quessir, though Veleƈ still stands. Just as it has stood firm against the might of a vast coalition hellbent on its destruction, Duke Johanes van Aert has declared Veleƈ shall stand every last minute against the Mori’Quessir. For such ends, a Summons is made for the legacy of Aldersberg.

First Call: The Craftsfolk of Almaris

The Duchy of Adria does not have the same unsevered legacy as many cities, and is in desperate need of siege masters, alchemists, shipwrights and more to further fortify the city in the intense battle undoubtedly to come. Of special request are those veterans who have survived the last sieges, and are willing to offer their insight on combating Mori’quessir.

    Second Call: The Displaced Raevir

As the realm is plundered by the legions of Mori’quessir, many Raevir streltfolk are displaced from their homes, both from the outskirts of Canondom and the farmlands beyond city limits. I summon all displaced towards Adria, to the city of Veleƈ to be offered purpose and home within the County of Aldersberg.

    Preparation Day

On the 16th of Horen’s Calling [Wednesday the 10th, 4 PM EST], rallied in the square of Veleƈ we will begin placing fortifications, forging cannons and other equipment in preparation of the inevitable siege of Veleƈ. As Count of Aldersberg, I assure that in this realm or the next all services shall be properly rewarded.

May Szent Tobias be advocate for the good graces he had in his service to Aldersberg and Godanistan to return to the heirs of the city’s legacy.

  10. The young Count of Aldersberg had just seen Allessandra on her way out of Velec. Markus lets out a deep sigh as he lifted his gaze upwards. He gave a prayer to Godanistan, and held hope that the virtue of Adrians might shine once more.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Alchemy is the collective of knowledge and techniques for the processing and manipulation of reagents for the creation of potions, oils, and other applications. Alchemy is fundamentally neutral, widely compatible, and used in a variety of cultures in a variety of ways.

Alchemy functions through the collection of reagents from botanical and other sources, which each have associated signs and symbols. The different signs are Fire, Earth, Air, Water, Mundane*, and Aether. The symbols range from a wide range of concepts, be it Wrath, Strength, Swiftness, Darkness, Light, etc. Each symbol will have a sign, with the caveat that Mundane is moreso the lack of a sign.

These are extracted through alchemical processes (varying based on the sign) and then brewed together in specific common and rare recipes. Often recipes will require more than just a combination of signs and symbols, requiring as well a base solution, or just random details. These are often tied to the aesthetic and theme of the lore piece the potion is submitted with.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Typically potions exist in "packs", submitted multiple potions at a time with a common theme, purpose- or sometimes it's purely miscellaneous. Technically speaking, very often there is no actual official rule tying the potions of these packs together, allowing the recipes to be exchanged individually. An example of this could be Lector Alchemy which has potions both common and rare as contents. Where coherent subsections of the magic exist moreso in are in its additional feats, such as Smoggers which allows for the construction of alchemical based machinery fueled by a brew called Red Oil, or perhaps Tawkins which allows for the creation of klones and mutations.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

[I am going to give an example of brewing a potion, as I would wager most potions aren't active but rather consumed or applied.]

The elder dwarf entered his alchemical study, and pried a hefty journal decorated with dark aqua, gray, and a red ruby set into the center of the cover. He turned several pages until he found the recipe of his choosing.

Norli reached to retrieve a single extracted Mundane measure of Chaos and of Death each, and would pour both symbols into a bowl, stirring the two together carefully until they were evenly mixed together.

Norli sets down the stirring instrument down, and prepares a base of water in a glass. He carefully adds two measures of Mundane Light, stirring vigorously until examining the reflecting light within the glass that it was mixed.

Norli opens a drawer then with a slam, drumming his fingers on his edge as he shifts his gaze across numerous containers of different dyes. After some deliberation, he chooses a bright blue coloring, adding it to the light-infused base.

The blow color slowly seeps across the base solution before the mixed powder of Chaos and Death is added in, absorbing the liquid and becoming a dense Flash Powder to be used in dwarven rituals and showmanship.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

The master alchemist questions his apprentice. "Have you gotten what I asked for?" Although the teacher, Norli was far too greedy to ready the supplies for his apprentice.

[The Student says yes, providing a parcel of Ant's Blight.]

Norli bobs his head, and gestures the student to place it on the counter. The teacher lists out a list of tools and equipment needed, and as the apprentice ran about familiarizing himself with the lab, Norli began his characteristic rambling. "Before you can understand the signs and symbols of a Reagent, you must understand the Rhun. The divine design of Yemekar instills meaning in all things, through alchemy we participate in a surface-level Rhuncraft- just barely deeper in potency than that of common forgework."

[The Student would be forced to participate in a cultural understanding of the magic, though one carefully designed to fit with the Roleplay reality.]

"Through alchemy we are able to draw vague concepts, parts of the Rhun out of these Reagents. We do this through extraction. Depending on how we want to use this meaning, we extract in different ways," he would explain.

[The student would be made to do the physical brunt work for Norli, who would then step up to do the actual more precise work and brewing.]

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

With alchemy, I think the only way to powergame the actual feat would be glossing over details or just straight up doing the Roleplay wrong but emoting the correct result. The way I would reprimand them is first to force consequences for their mistake, have them commit to losing the materials, and have to go through the process to get them again. Secondly, I would advise them on their mistake, correct it and explain why the detail matters. I would tell them to read the lore, and if it became a continuous issue I would doubt that they actually read the lore, and potentially drop them as a student. In my experience, you need to have a standard of "too far" and force consequences for that, or else people don't learn. That way they know to be more careful with their next time learning, or otherwise if they are given another chance by me and are added back to my TA they take it more seriously.

Do you have a magic(s) you are dropping due to this app? If so, link it:

             No.

Do you agree to keep the ST updated on the status of your magic app?:

             Yes.

Have you applied to teach this magic on this character before, and had it denied? If so, link the app.

“And Ishtar calls forth three deceivers in the guise of servants, and their wings are of obscuring smoke. They are called Famine, and Toil, and Defeat. And before the commoners, the first condemns temperance, and gluttony is exalted. And the second condemns diligence, and sloth is exalted. And the last condemns faith, and doubt is exalted. So the world is a pit of suffering. But there are yet faithful.”

In recent years, one could be forgiven for forgetting to stop and take a moment to enjoy the simpler pleasures life bears. Throughout war and impending doom, the graces of life can fall by the wayside. It is important to declare when a joyous occasion is at hand, especially so in turbulent times, so that we might remember Godani jest Weizki.

For the past four years, Markus Marie Sarkozic has been on a quest across the lands. His work and diligence, a bastion of Adrian principles in these troubled times. He has endeavored to remember virtue and joy in spite of the multitude of perversions. Thus he has chosen to extend his hand to his beloved, Oksana Marusya Ivanovich, to join him in completing the noble work of restoring Raevir-Carrion culture in Adria.

For their unbreakable bond has flourished greatly over these past years, and they rejoice in announcing their forthcoming marriage, to be held after the war's end.

The couple beckons the folk of Adria and companions of the pair to a grand revelry within the Castle Emalinhrad of Veletzia, a celebration of their love's betrothal, with merriment aplenty and celebration of their shared Raevir roots for all to join.

It is no secret to my comrades within Adria that in the onset of the war, I held doubts on whether it was a just cause. It seemed to me at the time that bloodshed had erupted out of nowhere, where once there was a strong unity and peace. I was young, and in youthful foolishness was tempted into the lie of Neutrality

This shadow of doubt was broken by the specter of Adria’s past, which challenged me to a quest in pursuit of truth. I was ushered to learn the history of my people, realizing the threads woven within the Tapestry of Man and the greater context of the four Holy Scrolls. I was commanded to respect my fellow Man as he is due, and to learn the ways of piety and wisdom.

I am a virtuous Canonist, and seek before all else the Glory of God. It is for this reason that I rebuke neutrality, and take up instead the grueling challenge of confronting reality head on. The position of the Coalition to insist on continuing a war on the basis of Canondom and Virtue yet overtly ignore and deny offers of peace or any diplomatic talks for that matter is utterly indefensible. Generous terms of a Ceasefire have been eagerly offered, an invitation for clerical inquisition extended and a request to cooperate against the Ibleesian Mori’quessir; but still the deceiver ‘Justice’ has seduced them to its cause!

Beware, numerable hosts of the enemy: Do not mistake the pursuit of peace for weakness! Virtues such as Temperance and Patience strengthen our resolve, and the Greycloaks shall fight for every last inch so long as the grace of Godanistan remains on their side, and continue to win.

I will humbly submit one correction to the righteous Caius Godwin; Not a single Adrian has contested nor lambasted me for signing the commitment to discuss matters of Aldersberg with Cressida Marie with scribes of Aaun present. The only regret shared between me and my comrades has been that I did not plaster the proud Sarkozic Coat of Arms on the top of the document, and for traveling so dangerously in the first place.

Let there be Peace; else may God damn you by our sabre.

The Right Honorable, Markus Marie Sarkozic

    Count of Aldersberg

  15. A tower looms over the roads of Adria, warm yellow light spilling from its windows and battlements as Greycloaks within share a drink. They had monitored their territory with great success, meeting new friends from across the Heartlands and sharing stories about the terrible War. With some encouragement, James agreed to make a publication in the Heartlands.

I am James, son of Cosima and Peter von Augusten. I am a proud patriot of the County of Hohengarten and the United Kingdom of Aaun, of which my family is tied. I am a virtuous Canonist, and seek before all else the Glory of God. The Glory of God is not in this war. The Duchy of Adria has not acted unreasonably given the course of War, and having submitted itself to penance of the Church of Canon. Despite this, war escalated- but the Duchy of Adria was able defend itself and through victory achieve independence. Since then, they have offered terms of peace that are reasonable.

There is no justifiable feud that is in the interests of Aaun and her vassals. It would be in the best interests of Aaun and her vassals to pursue peace.

Arby’s forums are broken right now (Techs, get on that!) so I am posting on their behalf. Absolute props to them and the good Roleplay they provided, I was constantly hearing in VC people compliment the RP and say it was fun. I won’t publish screenshots of RP as I find that lame, but just proof that I’m not breaking rules with his signature:

“Attend, brothers, and record my revelation: Behold, and the shadow of GOD is cast thrice upon the land, and thrice the light of instruction is obscured, and men tread the sea in its wake.” ~Ex. Sigismund Carrion

The Heartlands burn, its smoke casting a darkness across the lands that obscures the noble traditions of Velec. In the intense struggle against an existential threat to the Duchy of Adria and her folk, many are so exasperated that they doubt the obligation of Raev piety. Why care for a Heartland which has forsaken us? Let us not plunder it as Bandits and take the spoils as Reward!

    Such interpretations are not entertained.

Fritjof Maor was an international mercenary, a Westron outsider hired into the ranks of the Greycloaks for a chance of honor, redemption and resolution for his own personal grudges. His tongue swore himself to Adria, and he donned himself in the proud colors of the Greycloaks, but his hand did not follow. This renegade guided his actions not according to the history of Adria and its principles but instead acted in pursuit of radical violence. This made him a skilled combatant, achieving great Glory in many battles; but untempered bloodlust leads only to ruin.

It was reported that Fritjof Maor violated the Duke’s conduct of war, attacking a member of the cloth who interfered in a road arrest. He was immediately crucified. Let it be known to all of the Duchy of Adria, the Heartlands and beyond that such acts of uncontrolled wroth will never be tolerated. The Ducal Coronet of Johanes is committed to the righteous culture of Adria, especially in times where it is challenged from within and abroad.

  17. In a study within St. Emalyne Castle, a young Raev read through piles of books, maps and scrolls. Occasionally he would scribble some new notes to his own journal, and reference what he had already jotted down. Glancing over his notes, Markus Marie Sarkozic taps his pen on a name of interest as he contemplates a plan. "That Greycloak sure did well on the first hunt."

  18. From the examples you gave, I would say no. Fundamentally though, the answer is yes in that obviously any Roleplay choice made is the choice of the player to Roleplay in that way. The key difference is that people need to make a judgement on separating Roleplay from OOC.

I think it's certainly a far too prevalent problem that people will justify their character goals and actions based off of OOC, and although I like to presume this doesn't relate to topics like their characters being explicitly oppressive of other groups, I do think it sometimes begs questioning if someone can't separate a minecraft war from genuine OOC vitriol, are they mature enough to separate their other Roleplay?

I'm with critter that you need to presume people aren't acting on OOC vitriol, and I'd go further to say it is fundamentally just as much OOC projection to accuse someone of acting OOCly to justify not responding to their Roleplay normally as it is to act OOCly in the first place.
