  1. Senior Citizen of Beznov, Oksana, had wept for her husband and his ailing health. Only a few saints’ months ago, he had been well, or so the Doctor of the Adrians had written. As she sat beside him, watching him carefully pen the letter, her only remaining palm came to rest upon his shoulder, her voice laden with the weariness that had overtaken her, "You have served them well, kochy," She uttered, her words heavy with sorrow, though a flicker of happiness touched her lips. Their grandchildren, their future, offered a moment of bittersweet comfort as she smiled softly toward him.

GLOSSARY FOREWORD AT THE AGE of one and ten, I was taken as a squire by mine uncle, Lord Glyndwr of Garenbrig; thirteen winters have since passed, marked by toil, honour, and the pursuit of knowledge. Along the path I have tread, from the frozen reaches of Reinmar in the west to the arid deserts of Hyspia in the south; from the heart of the Middenland to the Highlands, many a lesson I have learned, and many a people I have encountered along the way. For seven of these years, I have devoted myself to the study of heraldic shields, gathering wisdom from the most renowned of Houses to those who, though less regaled, are nonetheless nobles in chivalry and virtue. Each of these Houses has left an indelible mark upon the pages of our tomes, for their deeds are etched through time and their ancestors are remembered through them. These families have been the pillars of the lands from which they hail—the very blood that stirs their nations’ hearts, urging them to keep their faith and devotion to the one true GOD. Their crests, colours, and symbols are not simple adornments, but representations of the valour, loyalty, and commitment to the Canonist faith, which binds us under the guidance of His holy word. In the archives of these escutcheons lies the essence of our Canonist realm—the charge passed from father to son, and mother to daughter: to uphold His plan, to stand true to His word, and to ever strive for the glory of His kingdom. It is through the study thereof that we honour our traditions and the symbols that have borne witness to the trials and triumphs of our people. In understanding these arms, we understand not only the past but the duties we carry forward: to protect, to serve, and to believe. Penned by Lady Heledd Glennmaer, c. 200 of the Second Age THE EXILIC KINGDOM OF NÙMENDIL H O U S E A R T H A L I O N A T H DAY HAS COME The arms of House Arthalionath are borne upon a field gules, charged with the Radiant Star of Malchediael argent, the Aengul of Courage and patron of Templars. Encircling this charge are five mullets argent, symbolising the Knights of the restored Adunic realm. At the helm, ensigned by the Crown of Númendil in argent and or stands the mullet of Ser Uther, styled Tar-Númenatar Arthalion, in chief, with his liegemen in flank: dexter, Ser Alwyn Glennmaer of Formindon, Ser Rolvald Thassion, and sinister Ser Mordred Briar and Ser Maerol of Acre, forming the constellation in full. The hues of silver, prominent within the crown and surrounding sigils, depict the sacred flames of Malchediael and Exalted Owyn, an ode to the House’s piety. Below, a field gules represents the blood of Idunia—once thinned, now pooled under the banner of Númendil. Their words, “Day Has Come,” speaks of the rising sun, where the long night yields to the light of dawn, most commonly spoken in High Adunic as “Utúlie’n aurë.” H O U S E G L E N N M A E R DO AND ENDURE The arms of House Glennmaer bear as their chief charge a tower steel, symbolising Brynmor, their ancestral keep, which means "High Hill"—speaking to their Highlander origins. Beneath this, sprawling roots stretch from the tower's base and extend across the field, denoting their ties to this heritage. Issuant from the tower are flames or, representing the purifying light of both Owyn and Malchediael, ever guarding against the darkspawn. The field vert speaks to the House’s humble beginnings, grounded in the soil of Garenbrig beneath GOD's watchful eye. Their words, “Do and Endure,” speak to the martial strength that has long defined House Glennmaer. With bloodlines tracing back to the old realm of Athera, they have faced adversity and change, yet remain steadfast, carrying the proud traditions of their ancestors through time. Their fief in Garenbrig is a continuation of this, reflecting their commitment to both family and realm. H O U S E M A R S Y R GUIDED BY STARS, ANCHORED IN HONOUR The arms of House Marsyr present two intertwined trees argent flanking an anchor or at the heart of the escutcheon. These trees depict the duality of the Adunian heritage, honouring the mingling of bloodlines from both elf and man, a testament to the union of Harren and Sarai. The anchor, centrally placed, symbolises the sea, an ally during the days of Al'ildic when the Marsyr's sought refuge on safer shores. It further reflects the maritime traditions of their forebears, always prepared for the tide of history to turn once more. Displayed alongside these are five mullets or representing the founding Knights of Númendil—a recent addition to the arms. These stars mirror the constellation seen on the shield of House Arthalionath, both a homage to the Knights and as guiding beacons for sailors navigating through uncertain waters, signifying Marsyr’s allegiance to the realm of Númendil. The azure field upon which these symbols rest carries a dual meaning; it represents both the sea and their composed nature that sets them apart from other Houses. Their words, “Guided by Stars, Anchored in Honour,” speaks to both their symbols and history, once associated with darkspawn, the words serve as a reminder to future generations to remain on the path of righteousness. H O U S E O ’ R O U R K E OUR BLOOD OVER ALL The arms of House O’Rourke have evolved through the ages, each generation adding its mark to the family’s heraldry. Their words, “Our Blood Over All,” speaks to their guiding principles, honouring the sacrifices of their forebears, and the efforts to safeguard their bloodline and a future for their kin. Initially, the shield bore a pecan tree proper, introduced by Oisin ‘John’ O’Rourke, symbolising the family’s unyielding nature—ever-growing. Under the current matriarch, Maerîl O’Rourke, the escutcheon had gained an armed knight steel and a harp or. The knight represents the family’s commitment to chivalry and loyalty, a representation of Maerîl’s own oath of knighthood and the establishment of their fief, Al’ildic. The harp, an instrument played by the matriarch as the Musician of the White Court, of which represents harmony, wisdom, and the arts. The House's colours—vert for renewal and or for generosity. Despite a history marked by pride, the O'Rourkes now dedicate themselves to selfless service to the realm. H O U S E S A R K O Z I C SONS OF THE EAGLE AND CROW The shield of House Sarkozic of Aldersberg was designed by the Count of Aldersberg and his wife; Markus Marie and Oksana Marusya, during their courtship. Their design is drawn from the earliest Sarkozy heraldry borne by St. Adrian of Leuvaarden, founder of Aldersberg. In its original form, the arms featured an eagle argent upon a field gules, accompanied by a sable shield charged with a Lorraine cross or. The Sarkozics of Aldersberg later embellished these arms with new charges, depicting the miracles of the dual saints of Aldersberg—St. Adrian, the House’s founder, and his faithful companion, St. Tobias. St. Adrian is symbolised by a sword or stainless and held in a bloodied hand, recalling his martyrdom. After his murder, his golden sword was stained with his blood, but when his body was later recovered, the blade was found miraculously cleansed, lying upon the open pages of a book. Their words, “Sons of the Eagle and Crow,” were uttered by an apparition, bidding the pair to reckon with their legacy and to embrace their roles within it—a quest. H O U S E E U L E R THE FISH NEEDS A BIKE The arms of House Euler were borne upon the family's elevation to nobility by Duke Heinrik Sarkozic in the town of Veleç, chosen by Baron Stefan Euler to embody the virtues and ideals of their lineage. The shield is charged with a sea turtle vert, basking beneath a radiant sun or upon a field azure. The gold of the sun symbolises wealth, prosperity, and the dawn of a golden age, while the green of the turtle signifies growth and haleness. The azure field, representing water, speaks of tranquillity and serenity. At the heart of the arms, the turtle serves as the chief symbol of Eulerdom—peace, wisdom, patience, and prosperity. While its long life serves as a reflection of their Adunian blood. The sun or further symbolises the joy and positivity expected of every Euler. Altogether, this jovial escutcheon speaks to the uplifting spirit of the Eulers, their dedication to a life of peace, and the pursuit of virtue. Their words, “The Fish Needs a Bike,” fail me. I have no clue what it means, but I yearn to know. H O U S E V O U R K E H A R D T WORK WILTS WEAKNESS The arms of House Vourkehardt are charged with a single horse sable, salient, standing proudly upon a pale or which divides the field gules. The red symbolises strength and loyalty to blood and kin, while the golden pale denotes the wealth gained through their skill as merchants. The horse, harking back to the theft of a pair of steeds by Baldric and Valeksa Vourkehardt during their time in Reinmar—a tradition in Waldenic culture. These horses have become the foundation of the family’s renowned stock, an ode to their boldness. Their words, "Work Wilts Weakness" reflect the House's values; through tireless labour, they overcome all obstacles and ensure the strength of their lineage. H O U S E G W Y N A D A R STAND BEHIND ME The arms of House Gwynadar are charged with a gryphon or, rampant before a blazing pyre, a nod to the sacred flames seen in the escutcheon of Glennmaer. The gryphon, a symbol of brawn and vigilance, holds the family’s ancestral sword in its talons, Caladbolg, a relic of significance to the Gwynadars. The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side is vert, featuring a pale yellow Lorraine cross, symbolising their devotion to the Owynist faith. The sinister side is or, adorned with a sprig of herbs vert, representing St. Amyas, their patron saint of medicine, healing, botany, and wild herbs. Their words, "Stand Behind Me," speak to the House's role as protectors of Garenbrig and their sworn fealty to House Glennmaer. Ser Alteon Gwynadar, along with his wife, Dame Rowena Temesch of the Petra, both Knights, embody the House's commitment to chivalry. THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE PETRA H O U S E T E M E S C H O F T H E P E T R A BLOOD OF MY BLOOD The arms of House Temesch of the Petra feature as their chief charge Saint Emma of Woldzmir, depicted centrally within a wreath vert and crowned by a halo or. St. Emma, Patron Saint of the Schism War, soldiers, loyalty, valour against odds, and Adrians, serves as a symbol of resilience and faith, for it was against all odds that its founder Paul Salvian led his small band of knights to liberate the Petra and found a nation, and from her that they took their inspiration. This escutcheon is supported by a double-headed eagle sable, harking to the House’s Imperial roots. In its sinister talon, it clutches a blade argent, symbolising the Knights as the backbone of the Petra, while in its dexter talon, it bears a scythe argent, a tribute to the peasantry and the Harvest Revolution in which it was born. Between the eagle’s heads lies a mullet sable and or, a nod to the Republican ideals that formed the basis of the Commonwealth. The black of the star signifies the soil darkened by the River Petra, which divided the Heartlands. Atop the star is a floating circlet or, denoting the old regime’s role as sponsors of the Republic while also representing their original sovereignty over the Archduchy of the Petra, and the vert laurel wreath reinforces the martial nature of the Petra as a state of knights. The field gules upon which these symbols rest signifies the blood spilt in defence of Imperial democracy, a tribute to the sacrifices made in the preservation of their ideals. Their House words, "Blood of my Blood," or in the Petran tongue, "Soung de mo Sang," speak to the essence of kinship, the loyalty that binds them, and the blood shed to ensure its longevity. H O U S E T H E O N U S UNWAVERING UNDER THE SUN The arms of House Theonus remain faithful to their origins, evolving as their influence within the Commonwealth grew. The shield is azure, charged with an eagle gripping a steel blade in both talons, poised in a resting position. In the dexter chief is a sun or shining over the House, the eagle argent, a symbol shared by many Waldenian Houses, represents courage and strength, while the sword reflects the family’s heritage as guards, mercenaries, and swords for hire—always seeking fortune through contract work. Their words, “Unwavering Under the Sun,” signify the hope and new opportunities each day brings, a testament to their ambition. H O U S E A U G U S T E N THE LORD CROSS BE WITH YOU The arms of House Augusten, in their secondary rendition, too reflect the lineage’s transition from the Kingdom of Aaun to their current place in the Commonwealth, embracing their ties to House Azor during the days of the Empire. In the first and fourth quarters, an eagle argent is positioned on an azure field, denoting their Waldenian heritage. This eagle stands in stark contrast to the sable eagle, symbolic of the true Waldenians, instead paying homage to the Aurentania Alps, where their forebears first settled. In the second quarter, a castle argent rises upon azure mountains, set against a sable field, with a sun or shining above, representing their keep of Rikardsburg. In the third quarter, a sable field bordered by chains or encases their House words, “Crux Dominus Vobiscum,” inscribed in the Flexio tongue, translating to “Becrossed by the Almighty” or “The Lord Cross be with You”. Central to this is a tome or with a Lorraine cross upon its cover, depicting the scrolls, flanked by a bushel of grapes or, speaking to their work as vintners. These grapes signify their connection to the earth, diligent labour of their hands and devout service to GOD’s creation through stewardship and cultivation. The or featured in the escutcheon signifies their noble blood, tying them to both Azor and the bloodlines of their consorts. H O U S E R E I N H O L D IN WAR, DILIGENCE—IN PEACE, CHARITY The arms of House Reinhold are divided per pale, azure and gules, charged with a stag rampant argent. In the sinister chief rests a crescent moon argent beneath a full moon argent, while in the dexter chief lies a small estoile or of six points beneath a twelve-pointed estoile or. Above the stag's head is a sun parted sable and or, pierced by a spear or, pointing to the sinister. The colours reflect the founding heads of the family—red for Atticus Reinhold and blue for Wilford Reinhold. The celestial symbols follow suit, with the moon representing Wilford and the sun signifying Atticus. The escutcheon is bordered argent, and beneath it, a scroll inscribed: “Ann an Cogadh, Dìcheall—Rè sìth, Carthannas”—or in common “In War, Diligence—In Peace, Charity.” H O U S E S T A F Y R LAW, HONOUR, LOYALTY The arms of House Stafyr are charged with a Lorraine cross or on a field vert, symbolising their devotion to the Canonist Faith. Below, a mound of flowers gules and trefoils. Flanking the shield, two falcons proper stand vigilant, representing the House’s ancient rite of maturity, wherein each young Stafyr selects a falcon to rear—a tradition that traces back to the days of Beorn Stafyr. Cresting the helm is a tilting helmet steel, adorned with mantling vert and or, a nod to the House’s proud martial tradition of jousts and tournaments and the oaths of Knighthood taken by many of its members. The scroll beneath the escutcheon bears the House’s words, “Licent, Honorem, Pietas,”—or in common “Law, Honor, Loyalty,” these virtues define the Stafyr identity, with members striving to live by them, as shown by those who follow the example of Saint Godwein of Huntshill. H O U S E A S T O R NO BOW, NO BEND, NO BREAK The arms of House Astor display a cat’s claw sable, centrally charged upon a shield or, encircled by an indented border of sable. The founder, Frey Astor, chose these colours as a tribute to the mercenary company of which he was once a part. The cat’s claw symbolises the first patriarch, Sir Aimo of Astor, known as “The Eccentric” among his many titles. Their House words, “No Bow, No Bend, No break” proclaim to bow before none unworthy, to bend the knee only to honour, lest they face ruin. Thus, they pledge to uphold their dignity and defiance in the face of adversity. H O U S E A U C L A I R SACRED DUTY The arms of House Auclair are charged with a central flamberge blade, dividing the escutcheon into two fields: azure and argent on the dexter, and scarlet and or on the sinister. This blade, both symbolic and literal, represents the House’s commitment to chivalric duty, embodying their virtues, convictions, and the heart of their lineage. The flamberge not only signifies martial prowess, yet also signifies the importance of wielding both sword and word, with the blade's dexter half in or symbolising the pursuit of peace, and its sinister half in argent representing the purity of their intentions. The shield’s division reflects this duality—azure and scarlet recall the House's origins as the noble House of Valois, whose ancestral colours were retained when the family adopted the name Auclair in 1714. With this renaming came their House words, “Le Devoir Sacre”—or in common “Sacred Duty” stands as a constant reminder of their solemn responsibility to uphold honour in all endeavours. THE KINGDOM OF HANSETI-RUSKA H O U S E B A R B A N O V - B I H A R WE COME AS CROWS The arms of House Barbanov-Bihar are charged on an escutcheon sable, featuring a crow or crowned positioned dexter. The crow's intelligence draws a parallel to Exalted Sigismund, renowned for his foresight and premonitions, much like the bird itself, whose black plumage is a nod to the distinctive tresses of the Carrion line from which they descend. The title Crowsmarch which Sigismund held at the time of the heraldry's establishment, further solidifies the bond between House Barbanov-Bihar and the noble bird. Saint Karl too adopted the crow as his personal crest, and it has since become a hallmark of all cadet branches of Barbanov, be they royal, bastard, or otherwise. The crown adorning the crow’s head denotes their sovereignty, while the golden ring clasped within its beak, inlaid with an argent gem, speaks to the tradition of piercing the King’s nipple during coronation—a testament to the closeness of the Kingdom to the King's heart. In the sinister canton, a gules square bears five argent Bulavas, or maces, symbolising the positions of responsibility within the King’s council. The five maces represent the original five roles, corresponding to the five Palatines of Hanseti-Ruska from the line of Bihar before their ascent to the Royal Dynasty. Beneath this canton lie three piles issuing from dexter base argent, representing the Greyspine Mountains, where the forces of Haense triumphed over Courland in a decisive battle to reclaim their land. This victory marked a pivotal moment in Haense’s history, heralding the restoration of the Kingdom after its occupation during the last war, and is celebrated as one of the most renowned battles ever fought. Their words, “We Come as Crows,” are a war cry of House Carrion and by extension Barbanov. H O U S E R U T H E R N BY BONES AND BARROWS The arms of House Ruthern are quarterly, featuring a black hammerhead shark bendwise across the centre, representing Ruther Barrow and his hammer, the House’s most ancient relic. This charge reflects the Ruthern history of pillaging and their primitive ways. In the first quarter, on a field sable, is a grey Hussariyan cross, symbolising their steadfast Canonist faith. In the fourth quarter, also on a field sable, is a red bird, representing Carrion, the House from which their founder descends. The sable too signifies Carrion, while the grey denotes their morally dubious lineage and their acceptance of bastards. Their words, “By Bones and Barrows,” pay homage to their founder, a bastard of House Carrion. The family’s tradition embraces bastards, leading to the title of Lord or Lady of Barrows bestowed upon them by the King of Haense. The phrase “Of Bones” references Ruther Barrow, known as the “Bonebreaker,” who terrorised foes by shattering their bones instead of spilling blood. House Ruthern also proudly adorns itself with bone jewellery, honouring their unique heritage. H O U S E L U D O V A R WE COME AS CROWS The arms of House Ludovar have undergone various changes through the generations, yet each charge within the crest holds significance to their lineage. The most prominent feature is the crow or, denoting their ties to House Barbanov, marking their place as a cadet branch of the Royal line. This crow, an emblem of vigilance and wisdom, is placed atop a front-facing helm argent, of which alludes to the Ludovars’ martial prowess and their heritage of fearsome warriors. The helm also signifies their role as stalwart defenders of the Crown, forever pledged to protect and serve it. In the crow’s beak rests a ring or, adorned with an emerald vert. This piece signifies the ring once belonging to Stephen ‘the Green,’ King of Haense, from whom the Ludovar line descends. Notably, Stephen bore green eyes, an uncommon trait among the Carrion-Barbanov bloodline, which has since become a distinctive characteristic of House Ludovar, being a branch born from the bastardy of that lineage. Beneath these charges lies an escutcheon sable, unadorned save for the crow and helm, which emphasises the solemnity of their noble duty. Their words, are the war cry “We Come as Crows,” shared with their royal kin. H O U S E C O L B O R N FAMILY THROUGH FIRE The arms of House Colborn are charged with a tree argent, set against a field sable, representing the Carrsten tree, revered for its miraculous healing properties, whose sap was said to bring solace and recovery in the harsh, unforgiving highlands of Aegis. In a time when medicine was scarce and the northern climate offered little reprieve, this tree became a symbol of life and hope. The sable field beneath the tree represents the black earth of their homeland—fertile despite its harsh surroundings—connecting the family to the soil from which they draw both their name and their identity. “Colborn” derived from the Scyfen word “Kolburanaz,” which translates to “Born from the Black Earth,” signifying their deep ties to the land. This earth also reflects the House’s belief that all, regardless of birthright, share a common origin. Thus, bastards within House Colborn are treated as equals, with the surname "Black" tying them back to the very soil from which all Colborns arise, legitimate or otherwise. Saint Carolus, or St. Carr, takes his name from the sacred Carrsten tree. His prominence within Colborn history strengthens their enduring Scyfling traditions, underlining their reverence for both kin and the land. The House words, “Family Through Fire,” speak to their belief that family—whether bound by blood, realm, or chosen ties—is sacred above all else. H O U S E B A R U C H BY RIVER, MOUNTAIN, AND COAL The arms of the House are charged with a sable bear rampant, embodying the virtues of strength, grit, and resilience. The bear's stance signifies its readiness to defend both kin and Kingdom, an ever-watchful guardian against the threats of the harsh northern climes. Behind the bear lies a field sable adorned with a chequered pattern of argent and grey lozenges, each representing the cold, wintry landscapes of the north. The alternating shades depict both the stark desolation of the wilderness and its austere beauty, symbolic of the family's perseverance amidst such unforgiving conditions. The pattern serves not only as a tribute to their enduring presence in the north but also reflects the precision with which the House has navigated challenges, much like a well-planned strategy. Though a common feature, the helm atop the escutcheon upholds the ideals of chivalry, respect, and steadfastness, qualities deeply ingrained in the House’s identity. Their words, “By River, Mountain, and Coal,” are an ode to the origins of the House, nestled beneath the towering Greyspine Mountains and by a river, a reminder of their humble beginnings as coal miners and fishermen. H O U S E A M A D O R FROM ASHES, WE RISE The arms of House Amador are characterised by a field azure, charged with a cross of Lorraine argent, symbolising their devotion to the faith. Since its founding in ages past across various realms, the azure hue has remained a constant element of their heraldry, though the reason for this choice is unknown. Their words, “From Ashes, We Rise,” reflect the House's resilience, having lost its peerage on multiple occasions yet consistently managing to reclaim its title and rise anew. H O U S E W E I S S TO THE LAST The arms of House Weiss are charged with a lion rampant argent, an emblem chosen in honour of the House's founder, Felix Weiss, known as the "White Cat." The lion, long a heraldic symbol of courage, stands as a testament to the House’s bravery. Its claws gules further emphasise their readiness for combat and willingness to slay their foes. Behind the lion, a sun or shines, representing both majesty and righteousness. Beneath these charges lies a field azure, symbolising loyalty, duty, and the family's enduring commitment to military service. Their words, “Va Ve Maan” or in the common tongue, “To The Last” means to fight without surrender, standing firm until the final man. H O U S E K O R T R E V I C H WITH DUTY, COMES HONOUR The arms of House Kortrevich are charged with a sable bull rampant, symbolising the House’s origins among the hardworking Koravian people, reminiscent of a well-fed bull grazing in the fields. The cultural significance of the bull has grown over time, becoming integral to the identity of the Koravians, the lineage of House Kortrevich. Their traditional methods of slaughtering cattle are shrouded in ceremony and respect, and they abstain from taking milk from cows for their calves, choosing instead to drink only goat’s milk. When their founder, Baron Otto I, alongside his brothers and cousins, attained noble status, the histories recount that House Kortrevich held dominion over a substantial portion of the Kingdom’s military. This is reflected in the escutcheon by the diagonal stripes of or and sable across the field, representing the brotherhood of Saint Karl. Their words, “With Duty, Comes Honour,” is a nod to their commitment to hard work; in their humble beginnings, slacking meant certain death. House Kortrevich takes pride in their obligations, valuing the honour derived from their diligence above all else. H O U S E G O D U N O V FLAME, FAMILY, AND FAITH The arms of House Godunov are quarterly, each bearing symbols of significance to their history. In the first quarter, a cavalry knight bears an escutcheon sable with an argent cross of Lorraine, wielding a sword on a field or a cross gules—noting their militant origins under Baron Sviatoslav I of Verskaya, who rose to Lord Marshal of the Brotherhood of Saint Karl. The second quarter features a sable gauntlet on a field gules, reflecting their strength in arms. An eagle sable on a field gules occupies the third quarter, representing courage, while the fourth quarter displays a black castle on a field or, denoting their keep of Verskaya. A helm proper, draped in a sable and or mantle, tops the shield, a nod to the colours of the Brotherhood of Saint Karl. Their words, “Flame, Family, and Faith,” embody loyalty to kin, the protective strength of family, and their devotion to Canonism. H O U S E K O V A C H E V BY RIGHT OF FLAME The arms of House Kovachev are borne upon a shield sable, charged with a seated gryphon gules, facing sinister, symbolising their strength, courage, and majesty. The ornate filigree or bordering the escutcheon reflects the House's noble lineage and ties to the realm. Subtle within the filigree lies a tower or crowned by a flaming pyre, symbolising their ancestral seat of Kovgrad, where the towering pyres lining the walls serve as beacons over the Midland Pass. The House's colours of gules, or, and sable too recall the imagery of fire—revering the flame as their bold spirit. House Kovachev traces its lineage to the ancient Kings of Raev and stands as a cadet branch of the exalted House Carrion. However, it earned distinction in its own right, ruling as monarchs of Akovia and playing a key role in the founding of the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. Duke Jan Kovachev notably ceded his title to Petyr Barbanov, laying the foundation from which Haense would grow. Jan’s legitimised baseborn son, Sergei, was granted the Barony of Turov, which was later elevated to the County of Turov by King Petyr I in 1570, solidifying the Kovachevs as one of the Kingdom’s first and oldest vassals. Their words, “By Right of Flame,” reflect their belief in enduring hardship and rising stronger from the ashes of strife. H OU S E K O R V A C Z TOGETHER, WE PROSPER The arms of House Korvacz are displayed on a shield murrey, a reference to their Renatian heritage. Charging the escutcheon is a double-headed eagle or representing their loyalty and past service to Renatus and the Kingdom of Ruska. The eagle, a recurring symbol of imperial authority, also denotes the House's military prowess and noble lineage. Behind the eagle, drops of gules are scattered, representing the blood of their Cossack forebears, who lived as mercenaries, frontiersmen, and soldiers. These drops pay homage to their origins and history as defenders of the frontier. Their words “Together, We Prosper,” speak to the House's strong belief in familial unity, symbolising how strength and success arise through kinship. It also reflects Highlander unity, subtly referencing the eagle’s nature as a family-oriented bird. H O U S E L E U V E N THE SINS OF OUR FATHERS ARE NOT OURS The arms of House Leuven are borne upon a field azure, prominently featuring a Lorraine cross or, symbolising their devotion to the Church and their piety. Above the cross stands a stag, depicted in profile, representing knowledge and wisdom. The antlers of the stag cradle a sword argent with a hilt or, representing both strength and loyalty, speaking to their ties within Hanseti-Ruska and their martial skill. In the stag's eye, a sun or is placed as a tribute to the family's Ashford blood and the significance of the sun in Savoyard culture, representing enlightenment and leadership, binding both their heritage with their present loyalties. Their words, “Scelera non Nostrorum,” meaning “The sins of our fathers are not ours,” speak to the family’s departure from the Orenian branch of their Ashford lineage, marking their separation from the past. House Leuven, originally Ashford de Falstaff, took this name after members severed ties with the Ashford de Falstaffs, distancing themselves from the transgressions of their forebears as they established themselves in Hanseti-Ruska. H O U S E I V A N O V I C H The arms of House Ivanovich are charged with an eagle argent, known as "Sigismund's Eagle," upon a chequered field of gules and sable. The eagle signifies the House’s ties to House Carrion through Ivan Barrow, the wayward son of Yakov Carrion, who established the Ivanovich line. The chequered red and black field represents their Ruskan heritage, symbolising both the hardships and the strength that arise from their homeland. This crest was originally devised by the Cossacks of "Ivan’s Host," a paramilitary force commanded by Ivan Barrow in the old realm of Vailor. THE PRINCIPALITY OF REINMAR H O U S E B A R C L A Y WHO RESTS, RUSTS The arms of House Barclay are steeped in history, with their senior line having served as vassals in the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska for generations. Over time, cadet branches emerged, most notably settling in Sutica and later in Savoy, while the Minitz branch found its home within the Kingdom of Aaun. Once freed from their feudal bonds, these two primary branches united, giving rise to the Principality of Reinmar, ruled jointly by Prince Alfred I of Sutica and Prince Leon II of Minitz. On the dexter side of the shield, the heraldry of House Barclay von Sutica displays the arms associated with their senior titles: the Duchy of Reinmar, the Counties of Freimark and Kretzen, the Baronies of Madvon and Freising, and the Lordships of Sankt Johannsburg, Willheburg, Erwinsburg, Freiburg, and Rozenfeld. Above these charges rests the Crown of Sutica, claimed by King Georg I Barclay. The sable eagle, a prominent symbol of Waldenian culture, is also depicted, tying the family to its forebears. While a sable lion supports the heraldry of Minitz, the symbol of Freimark. On the sinister side of their shield lies the heraldry of House Barclay von Minitz. The three golden gauntlets on a sable field represent the Lordship of Durres, while a helmed lion wielding an axe on a gules field signifies the Barony of Brandthof. The broken sword above pine trees on a field argent denotes the Barony of Borienwald, and a black eagle within a white castle on a red field represents the County of Neu Brandthof. At the centre of the shield, a spear encircled by wings serves as the emblem of the Duchy of Minitz, crowned by the ducal coronet of Minitz. The escutcheon also features stallions, a nod to the Reinmaren people’s long-standing tradition of horse-rearing and riding, a practice that dates back to their days as migratory horse lords. The family colours, azure and vert, symbolise the rivers and forests that once sheltered the early tribes of Reinmar. Their words, “Wer Rastet, Der Rostet,” translated as “Who rests, rusts,” reflect their enduring spirit, rejecting idleness and embracing perseverance and diligence. H O U S E K A N U N S B E R G GOD IS WITH US The arms of House Kanunsberg are composed of several quarters, the first of which is itself quartered. In the first and fourth quarters, a field is divided vertically, with azure on the sinister side and vert on the dexter, flanked by wings argent and centred with a spear sable, symbolising the Minitz Branch of the Barclay dynasty. The second and third quarters showcase two eagles argent, their wings displayed and stacked upon one another, set against a field chequered in vert and or. This pattern of quartering is mirrored in the fourth quarter. Within the second and third quarters, a saltire argent is featured on a field sable, with four mullets argent positioned in the open spaces, signifying the title of the Barony of Fernweh and the four books of the Kanun. The shield is supported by an eagle sable, crowned in or and encircled by a halo or, representing the traditional Waldenian bird and the noble lineage of House Kanunsberg. Their words, “God is with Us.” H O U S E B R A N D T H O F The arms of House Brandthof are borne upon an escutcheon gules, charged with a lion sable rampant, grasping an axe argent, and adorned by a tilted helm argent. This lion, steeped in the title's heritage from the Principality of Minitz, denotes their ties to the Barony of Freimark, their first landed vassal in the old realm of Almaris. It traces its lineage to the first Baron of Minitz, Dietrich Lothar Barclay, whose father, Ernst, held the title of Count of Freimark. Following the fall of the Principality of Savoy, the realm in which Freimark was settled, Dietrich chose not to inherit Freimark after his father’s passing. Instead, he journeyed to the Kingdom of Oren and founded Minitz. With no heirs of his own, Dietrich bequeathed the title of Freimark to his younger brother, Karl Amadeus Barclay, while Minitz was passed to his cousin, Leon Brandt Barclay, who became its Duke, thereby fathering generations that would endure through the ages. Thus, this shield serves as a proud symbol of the Tylosian lineage. H O U S E S T R O H E I M OURS IS THE FURY The arms of House Stroheim are charged with a rampant stag sable ascending a rocky hillside, also sable, upon a field of or. The stag serves as the patron animal of House Stroheim, a symbol bestowed upon Robert Stroheim following his valorous fall in battle against the dragon known as Cloudbreaker in the southern lands of Balian. The sable stag represents rebirth through flames, a poignant reminder of the trials faced by the Stroheim lineage, as many of its members bear the marks of flame and disfigurement. The field of gold signifies the fertile fields of Reinmar, embodying the prosperity and resilience of the House. Their House words, “Unsere ist die Wut,”—or in common “Ours is the Fury,” serve as their war cry. H O U S E S T U R M W E B E R ALWAYS READY The arms of House Sturmweber are charged by a central grey tower, flanked on either side by keys or. The tower signifies unyielding fortitude and vigilance, while the keys symbolise access to both knowledge and power. These charges are set upon a field divided per saltire, with the flanks on either side bearing azure, the chief argent, and the base sable. The heraldry reflects the history of House Sturmweber, founded in 1945 when its members gathered in Minitz's moothall. The first patriarch, Roland Sturmweber, drew inspiration from the Rook, a symbol of steadfastness and loyalty, vowing to serve Minitz and later Reinmar with unwavering faith. Their House words, "Immer Bereit," or in the common tongue, "Always Ready," capture their enduring readiness and commitment. THE SOVEREIGNTY OF HYSPIA H O U S E P E L E A R The arms of House Pelear are charged with a horse proper, ridden by a cavalry knight bearing a shield steel and sword, symbolising the House’s martial might and leadership. The field is azure, featuring a sable chevron at the base, encircled by an azure belt, representing the unity and loyalty of the House. Supporting the escutcheon are two bulls sable rampant, denoting their strength and relentless fighting spirit. Atop the crest rests the argent crown of Hyspia, inset with rubies, signifying their rule by the will of the people. Originally a Barony, then a Viceroyalty, House Pelear has now ascended to sovereignty, marking the dawn of Hyspia's second era, succeeding the rule of the de Riveras. The House’s name, “Pelear,” meaning “of fighting,” speaks to their commitment to stand in defence of their people. Their chosen colours, royal blue and obsidian black are shared among many Hyspian Houses but reflect the Pelears’ unique combination of wisdom and caution, symbolised by the horse, and their resolve, represented by the bulls. As sovereign Xiomara I once said, this is “the Hyspian way.” H O U S E S A L A Z A R MESS WITH THE BULL, YOU GET THE HORNS The arms of House Salazar display a grey bull's head, positioned centrally upon a field divided vertically, the sinister side azure and the dexter side bronze. Beneath the shield rests a scroll inscribed with the words “La Familia Salazar.” Atop the escutcheon is a traditional Hyspian morion helm adorned with two feathers—one azure and one bronze—emerging from its left side. As a martial House within the sovereign state, the Salazars embrace the symbolism of the bull, having produced two military colonels and boasting the youngest knight in Hyspia's history. Their Barony is deeply rooted in cattle and rodeos. Their House words, “Mess with the Bull and You Get the Horns,” reflect their intolerance for nonsense and tomfoolery. H O U S E M A R A V I L L A OUR WEAPONS BLOOM The arms of House Maravilla feature three marigolds or, positioned above three broken swords argent, all set upon a field of bright azure. Across the top of the field flow waves of purpure, beneath which rests a morion helm, crested with a mantle of pale vert and deep azure. Flanking the shield are two felines, supporters that embody the virtues of the twins who founded the family lineage: strength, wisdom, and intelligence. One cat is sable and the other a pale or, symbolising their shared essence yet distinct natures. The royal hues of purple and blue speak to their noble heritage. Beneath the escutcheon is a scroll bearing the House words, “Arma Nostre Flore,” which translates to “Our Weapons Bloom” in the common tongue. H O U S E D E N O D A D O ACTIONS, NOT WORDS The arms of House Denodado are displayed with an argent ram’s head at the centre of a field divided horizontally; the upper half is azure, while the lower half is gules. The shield is encircled by argent leaves, and from its top emerge delicate strands of gradient azure and gules filigree. Once known as the Novikovs, their lineage traces back to the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. Upon Hyspia's quest for independence from the Dual Kingdom, the Novikovs declined offers of peerage from them, choosing instead to align with the Hyspians and subsequently adopting the name Denodado. They style themselves as rams, embodying the qualities of stubbornness and courage, as reflected in their heraldry. Their House words, “Actions, not Words,” further exemplify their commitment to deeds over mere promises. H O U S E M U R I E T T A The arms of House Murietta are simple, featuring a bushel of wheat displayed upon a field of verdant green, symbolising their stewardship over the fields and livestock of the Hyspian city and the farming village beyond its walls. As the most recent peers of Hyspia, they had received numerous offers of nobility, which they had consistently declined until the tragic events of the Blue Night Massacre—a harrowing incident in which the Princess was assassinated by poisoning. On that fateful night, the Muriettas bravely escorted the royal family to safety, preserving the succession for the Hyspian people. As a testament to their loyalty and valour, they now bear the title of Barony within the sovereign state. THE TOWN OF GRENSE H O U S E A E R T TO CONQUER IS TO LIVE The arms of House Aert were established through the union of Avgust Vilac and Elize of the Middelan, a lass from Lodenland. Avgust’s great-grandfather, the esteemed Emperor Aurelius, is a significant figure in their lineage. The escutcheon presents a field of murrey, a hue reminiscent of the Imperial purpure of old; the tint of red remains unknown, with some attributing it to their Vilac heritage. Traditionally, the family has favoured an Imperial cross or, a homage to the Renatian ideals cherished by their forebears. At the midst of the shield rests a hound sable and rampant, representing the van Aert’s mercenary trade as “dogs of war.” This hound is adorned with a crown or around its neck, symbolising the House’s past sovereignty. Their words, “Vincere est vivere”—or in common “To conquer is to live”—speak to their livelihood, earned through victories in battle. Though their loyalty could once be bought, as long as coin flowed, so too did their commitment to the cause. H O U S E M A R E N O The arms of House Mareno trace their origins to Balthazar I, a renowned seafarer, with legend claiming his marriage to a mermaiden—half-human, half-fish. Though the House has since remained landlocked, the anchor sable forming the base of their escutcheon stands as a testament to their seafaring legacy. The chain or entwined around the anchor signifies their mercantile prowess, reflecting both trade and maritime expertise. The shield itself bears a field of argent, upon which a teal dolphin leaps from azure waves, symbolising their ties to the sea. Originally, House Mareno established their fief of Myrine under the Princedom of Savoy, with Balthazar’s eldest son, Cyrus, continuing the line. Under Balthazar III, the men of Myrine rallied to support Prince Lucien of Savoy in his war efforts. Though unlanded since those days, House Mareno has remained active within the realms of humanity, lending their support to various causes over the years. 3. c. 197 of the Second Age TO THE HOUSES OF THE CANONIST REALM, S A SQUIRE striving toward Knighthood, I have been entrusted with many tasks along the way. Among the last of these is a study of the heraldic arms of all Houses that stand in our age, not of those long-defunct or outside the Canonist fold, but of the faithful, be they noble or commoner. In my travels across nations, I have gathered many crests, yet the stories behind them often remain hidden. Few have been able to share the history or meaning behind their arms, and thus I write to you now, seeking your knowledge to aid my study. If your House bears a unique crest and follows the Canonist faith, I kindly ask you to send a reply in haste with a description of your shield— its symbolism, colours, and history. Even if there is little or no known meaning, such information is still of value. I also request that you include the words of your House, your motto, and the significance they carry. Please send any replies or inquiries to the Fief of Garenbrig, addressed to Lady Heledd Glennmaer. IN FAITHFUL SERVICE, Lady Heledd Glennmaer, Squire of Lord Glyndwr of Garenbrig
  4. Carys-Athíl dwelled within the confines of Ilumrín, honing her performance upon the harp in preparation for the forthcoming ball.
  5. A battle-worn Oksana embarked on her journey from the Fields of Blood, her form stained with gore—her arm, once the bearer of a shield, now rent asunder. With a scarred eye, she returned to the High City of Winburgh, the Fortress she vowed to preserve. Yet, her visage, marred yet concealed, lay behind a steel faceplate. To the Captain alone, she unveiled the countenance that betrayed her oath to the church. For him, she had fought, a boy she had nurtured, THE ANATHEMA. . .

  7. Enide de Weit, known to some in the courts of Winburgh as both trumpeter and cupbearer, of late delved into a far more expressive pastime. Her artistic talents might not be deemed remarkable, yet her work held deeper significance to the recently anathematized and excommunicated Captain-General Sir Gaspard. She painted into the late hours, capturing the Bull of Middelan crouched amid Vallagne's once-ivory chapel, his gaze almost contemplative. On one side, a depiction replicated from Cardinal Stanislaw's audit, while the other featured the shield of the Burgundian Bull.

  9. ℑ spent months in strange temples, water was scarce, and when I did not labour to unearth a hidden puddle from the arid clay, I would descend into delirium. The nature of my visions haunted me, and I questioned if they were mere illusions, figments of my mind, or a muddled reality. Out of the dark—out of the unknown—came a serpent slithering along the temple's catacombs and pillars, dancing upon the wall amidst the smoky tendrils that billowed from my torch, as if the flames themselves had charmed the creature. It whispered, “Be ye readied to ignite thyself within the flames of thine own inner-hearth; how mayst thou ascend anew ere thou hast been made to naught but ash?” Its fanged maw shared secrets, revealing that His magic was unlike the sea's gentle waves, but of a darker sort. It spake of honey and wildfire, both painted with the same gold, and foretold that I would be transformed into a spawn of Dragon, akin to you. I mourned and lamented, questioning the wisdom of submitting to a King I had never encountered. It recounted what had prompted my change of heart upon that palisade, “I wish to serve, Brother,” as if it were me, as if the words escaped on their own accord. Anything holy enough could sense my falsehood. Yet, you provided reassurance with the words, “Duty is vital, understanding is not,” even though a pit settled in my chest, and the talons of flesh and fire became all too familiar. “Do not fight the Light,” the two flames peered at me with their ire and glow. “Endure. Doubt not thy strength…” Your words echoed louder than any anguished scream of mine. With a pained flinch, I recoiled, cursed by the very thing I had come to worship. I closely studied “His Boon,” the bestowment I would soon revere. Not a day had passed; the sun still bathed us as we walked. Despite the warnings that any man or King that bowed to the Titan would be cast into the depths of the nether, toppling the sun from its heavenly perch until its magma spilled over them, you led me to your stronghold—beyond good and evil. The altar fires had witnessed whispers, “Only He can stopper the bleeding heavens,” etching the words upon my tongue and mind, a permanent mark. Only he, I thought in my half-awake mind, could stopper all the wrongs that I had known. Time and time again, the foolish machinations of mortal man had cracked upon the anvil of worlds. Yet the serpent reassured me once again, its soft underbelly sliding along the stones as if it belonged so much more than I. Its words flowed like wine, “The blade of man shall be tempered in the flames, and thou art coals for the embers.” I felt its bite against my ankle, and the light faded from sight. Emerging from slumber, I found myself in a cracked and crumbled tomb, my sanctuary from the ashen shroud that veiled my sight. The serpent, a frequent visitor, would often disperse into the stone floors of the temple, vanishing into a crack within its foundation, while pitch-black nights seemed to reside deep within my very bones. It was unclear whether I experienced a dream or a vision; the distinction remained elusive. And of your riddle, the answer became clear to me. As your words left your lips and met my ears, I had always known the truth, the truth of time. But what I did not know, had you believed in another gospel before? I felt I knew. I knew that you did not ask me this riddle to glean my understanding of time. No, you asked so that I might reforge my understanding in the melting heats of this land. Time is a furnace. It is an unending cauldron from which things are filled for eternity. It is a great stew that we call existence, that which devours all things that are placed within its reach. We will die, and we will be incorporated into the waters. But we must ensure that our legacy changes its flavour. READ
  10. In the year 14 of the Age of Rights and the Age of Reckoning . . . A WOODCUT OF THE HIGH CITY OF WINBURGH 𝔗he Captain-General, we the Order of St. Jude, alongside countless innocent folk, have beheld the ruthless onslaught of the undead, who afflict our lands and many others. They lay waste to homesteads, desecrate cathedrals and monasteries, and assail our Burgundian Legionnaires. Meanwhile, a cursed disease has rooted in neighbouring realms, its talons dragging through mankind, known as Vampyrism. It is rumoured that these plagued creatures have slaughtered Baron Cunimund hal'Cingedoz, razing his village of Bodbwodz upon the peaks of the Langkettes mountains. A list has been wrought of these Vampyres, amid others, deemed darkspawn by Lord Johan Vuiller, for which we owe great thanks. The folk of Aaun have, of their own accord, resorted to oust them with force through the fiery destruction of their once-homes. Overall, there has been an escalation in encounters and sightings of these creatures of the night. Henceforth, it is sanctioned and decreed that compulsory testing will be implemented for all Winburgh citizens and all vassals, including nobility, of the League of Veletz. Each man, woman, and child shall be subjected to scrutiny. No exemptions shall be granted to those who object; no corner shall remain unexplored, and no stone will be left unturned, as we cleanse ourselves of this blight. * Refusal to be tested will result in a spontaneous trial to be carried out with a Knight of Veletz overseeing. Upon being found guilty, the standard consequences will be issued. Upon being found innocent, one will be fined no less than one hundred and fifty mina. The following examiners have been appointed to perform the tests and are confirmed to be free of any corruption or influence; Captain-General of the League of Veletz, Sir Gaspard Hand of the Captain-General, Sir Hannibal Marshal of the Legion of Burgundy, Sir Hendrik van Aert Grandmaster of the Order of St. Jude, Halston Veyont Sergeant of the Order of St. Jude, Gerard Ouvrier Reverend Mother Oksana of the Order of St. Jude Vicar of St. Arpad’s Cathedral, Father Alexios Father Nerium Margrave of Drusco, Edmond Ashford de Rouen Landgrave of Bonby, Sir Godric ap Easworth Stablemaster Yvine Pavlinchenko Head Physician Irene Palmer Tavernkeeper Bailey Penned by THE REVEREND, Mother Oksana of the Order of St. Jude HIS GRACE, Gaspard of the House van Aert, Captain-General of the League of Veletz, Duke of Middelan, Bannerlord of Velec, Protector of the Midlanders SIR Hannibal of Ostfeld, Hand of the Captain-General, Sergeant of the Order of St. Jude
  11. In meek reverence, Mother Oksana humbly knelt before the altar within the Cathedral of Winburgh. "Saint Arpad, pray for us, for the lives of the Canon's flock. In our unrest, grant us the grace to forgive one another."
