  1. [!] A simple note is pinned to the notice tree of Bywater

“T’is time to harvest the fields! All of our ploughing, planting, and weeding labors have led up to this moment! Grab your scythe and make Bywater proud!”

The victims agree on that, but have also stated that they did not let them come forward to try and fix anything. It's put perfectly by Summer. How do you expect them to come forward, especially after 4 years, when they are refused to even speak to them.

It is completely and utterly not MissToni's job to give Charlemagne an avenue for forgiveness. He has to seek that himself.

    The Cult Fails Again!

    2023-03-24_23.25.38.png

~Victory with little bloodshed! A lovely thing to be had~

Once again, the iblees-worshipping cultists tried to kidnap, loot, and destroy us innocent halflings of Bywater! Once again, they have failed! Three big-folk cultists in black armor rode into the shire, seeking to catch us off guard. However, when the other halflings and adventurers came back to the Village Hall, two of the cultists ran for the hillside, abandoning the third to his fate!

In a display of cowardice, the last cultist grabbed a nearby halfling to serve as a hostage to negociate his freedom (poor Alculf!). He was cornered, beaten back, and his captive freed with no casualties to speak of! Once defeated, he groveled and begged for our mercy. He was revealed to be but a child, nay older than fifteen to sixteen or so, wearing a warrior's armor (such a shame that the cultists resort to Child Soldiers!). He broke down into tears and begged for forgiveness. This forgiveness was granted to him by the all-merciful halfling state. Although he threatened to kill poor ol' Alculf, he is now sorry (or so he claims) for what he's done. He wrote this apology to us:

If he is found in Bywater again, we will not be so merciful! Knox rewards those who keep promises!

    ~Mimosa Applefoot,

    Mayor of Bywater.

    THE CULT FAILS!

    2023-03-23_20.00.48.png

~The entrance tunnel that the kidnappers hid in now lies vacant of evildoers~

Today, let it be known that the Iblees-worshipping cult of kidnappers and scoundrels have been thwarted! They tried to attack us, but, seeing our superior numbers and the great skill of our friendly big-folk adventurers, they tucked their tails between their legs and RAN all the way to the safety of the monk lands where we could no longer find them.

Those who prey on the weak are themselves even weaker! Bywater stands strong!

    ~Mimosa Applefoot-Nimblefoot,

    Mayor of Bywater.

    Spoiler

oh boy I sure do love abusing safezones to escape consequences!

    Shovel Training!

    Shogging_lake_day.png

~The shogging logs and training dummies of Bloomerville, a village from a time long past~

With the recent threats of KIDNAPPING and IBLEESIAN CULTISTS in Bywater, we must defend ourselves as best we can! These foul bigguns wish to scour our shire, rip up all of our burrows and fields, and replace them with casinos, shops, and the evils of industry! Next Pumpkin Day will be spent solely on training our shovel combat skills and preparing traps and other defenses to protect Bywater from these evildoers! Halfling ingenuity shall prevail! Knox bless Bywater!

    -Mimosa Applefoot-Nimblefoot,

    Mayor of Bywater.

  7. Read books. Play other games. Watch movies and shows. If LOTC is your only media engagement you will soon run dry of inspiration.

For people who really tryhard LOTC in order to get more activity or grow a community, it can feel like using your free time on non-LOTC stuff is a waste. That is not true. Don’t be that person who plays for 50 hours a week without developing your character or any narratives in that time due to chronic burnout.

  8. I’m weird in that I like “non-event events” in which players gather to Roleplay the daily lives of their characters instead of any specific festival/CRP fight/wedding/whatever. I call these SoL hours and run them in Bywater every so often. They are a lot like non-event roleplays but more structured and with a focus on actually doing the tasks your character would do in a typical day instead of just lazing around in a tavern.

I find this sort of event to be useful in encouraging players to think of their characters’ mundane lives and expand their characters’ personalities beyond just how they react to dangerous situations and how they prefer their alcohol.

  9. OOC:

    Hello there!
This is an event designed to simulate a single day of halfling life as best as possible.

Everybody starts at the beginning of the hour, having just woken up. Their characters then go about their day as they would IRP, eventually falling back to sleep at the end of the hour, which ends the event. Working, eating, talking, and other things your character typically does in a day can and should be roleplayed. There will be a single roleplay prompt happening during the hour to promote interaction, but attending it isn’t mandatory. Feel free to do as you wish. The intention isn’t to attract a large quantity of halflings into one location at a time, but rather to create as much immersion as possible.

    SoL Event Checklist (Optional):

    -Wake up ( )
    -Eat something ( )

    -Do some task ( )

    -Interact with someone ( )

    -Eat another thing ( )

    -Go to sleep ( )

Two months to build while nations are still picking out where they are, all while there are several players who are in the middle of college. I am of course excited for this new map, as is everyone, but that is an insane deadline that is extremely unfair for builders. A good build takes about 3-5 months, and thats taking into consideration people have breaks from work and/or school. Two months leads to bad projects like Elvenesse's settlement rebuild (and I was the one responsible for doing the TERRAFORMING UNDER A WEEK AND GOT SICK). Elvenesse was a rushed project that only 1-3 builders from their actual build team actually worked on, and I was a late add in! That whole city is FUNCTIONALLY disorganized because it is a rushed and stressed project.

If this was in June or July, it would be more understandable since it allows builders during college to spend their free time doing building.

But May is the literal month people are DOING EXAMS.

    EXAMS

And lets not forget that nation leaders also have to lead their nations through the world ending events. With the time-span that people are given, nothing is going to look good unless you steal some map or buildings from some poor artist on E-Bay or something.

    PRO TIP:

You don't have to build literally every possible home, public amenity, and event site for your city in the pre-build. People can still build stuff after the map has gone live. There will be nodes centralized in one location for easier building material access as well as (potentially) paid LC. You don't need to do massive terraforming projects. You don't need to make an insane 11/10 quality front page of PlanetMinecraft capitol building.

It is totally viable to start the map with just some starter homes, a tavern, a barracks, and some shops surrounded by walls and expand from there. It's better to be too small at the beginning and quickly expand to meet your housing needs than it is to be too large at map launch such that it's hard to find RP.

I get that we as LOTCers are very proud of our capital settlements and wish for them to be as perfect as possible as quickly as possible, but if doing so stresses you out then you're trying too hard and should scale back your plans a little.

    In Bywater, Halflings go FIRST!

    2023-03-14_20.34.18.png

In these times of great population increase, we no longer have room to spare for unhelpful big-folks to live in our village while halflings are left without! I hereby announce we shall be following a policy of Halflings First when it comes to land allocation. New halflings shall get first pick on any new areas opened up for development, and big-folks who wish to continue living in Bywater will have to prove their usefulness and good moral character if they are to take up valuable space for their own dwellings!

    The following shall take effect:

1:All special exemptions from village rules & customs granted to big-folk residents is hereby REVOKED, except by permission of the Thain.

2: The Sheriff of Bywater shall enforce the morality of the village's big-folk residents more than before. We shall NOT have another darkspawn cultist incident!

3: The lands known as the "Biggun Hills", where big-folks have previously been allowed to settle, will be held to a higher standard of scrutiny. The homes there have been ransacked by bandits, seemingly left vacant, and are prime targets for re-allocation into halfling hands if they are not tidied up!

4: Any big-folk who wishes to reside in Bywater may ask for an apartment in the old Bogwartz school. Burrows or other homes in the main village area will not be granted to big-folks except by permission of the Thain.

Visitors are still welcome, as always. Especially Adventurers who have registered with the Quest Office.

We must first take care of our own people! A shire for halflings, by halflings, and of halflings!

    ~Mimosa Applefoot,

    Mayor of Bywater
